In Mt Alexander Shire

The bare and brown paddocks of moisture have long been sucked dry
And the sun glowing bright in the blue morning sky
For central Victoria another warm day
And rain that is needed does seem far away
From the Shire of Mt Alexander that is known far and wide
For it's gold mining past in the dry countryside
The miners long deceased but signs of their work to be found
In the unfilled holes they made in the dry and hard ground
To central Victoria men even came from China for to mine for gold
Though few miners grew wealthy from their labors as has often been told
Of their greed for Earth's riches many unfilled holes today
And they do not need gold in the place where they now lay
Welcome swallows above the bare paddocks in the sunny sky
With the sun on their dark wings in pursuit of flying insects fly.
