Sadie

Old memories at times leaves Sadie feeling sad
Of the happy and tearful days in life she has had
In the twilight of her life her hair silver gray
Time on her existence keeps ticking away

She often thinks of Eddy the love of her life
For three decades of years they were husband and wife
A framed picture of him on the wall at her bedside
A victim of cancer in his fifties he died

Their only offspring Joe a noble young man
In his early twenties he died in Vietnam
He breathed his last where so many young lives were lost
His war medals for bravery came at a huge cost

Many an up and down in life Sadie has known
In her one bedroom apartment she lives on her own
In her mid nineties her prime years long gone
And the clock on her life ever keeps ticking on

By all accounts in her prime years brown haired and attractive and lovely to behold
But time ages beauty and people grow old
A charming person she has aged in a graceful way
When out walking to everyone she meets she smiles and says good day.
