Laughing Kookaburras

One of the largest members of the kingfisher family
The laughing kookaburras as a family proclaim their territory
With a prolonged loud cackling for which they are widely known
Distinctive in their habits and with ways of their own
They nest in a hollow log  or in a cavity of old tree
The female she lays white eggs of four or two or three
Last year's family help the parents the young for to rear
Among birds such behaviour to say the least rare
Known to kill small snakes and skinks and other smaller prey
As well as the young of other birds this is their natural way
Quite big non fishing kingfishers of mottled brown and gray
They are birds i see often though not where i live every day
For their prolonged loud cackling they are known far and wide
They call out as a family group in the treed countryside.
