Millstreet In May

On a leafy birch tree a male robin is on song
Near where Finnow the white river goes babbling along
On towards the Blackwater by the Town of Millstreet
In the green rushy fields where the waterways meet

The old green fields looking beautiful in Nature's wildflowers
That were noursihed to bloom by the recent Spring showers
And the hawthorns are cloaked in their blossoms of pale gray
Nature is at her finest in Millstreet in May

The flutes of the curlews so pleasant to hear
They breed in the bogs in the Spring of the year
And the dark swallows in pursuit of flying insects do chirp as they fly
Above the old fields in the gray morning sky

The familiar cawing of the silver backed crow
And the male pheasants are cucking where the rank rushes grow
And the contented cattle chewing their cuds do lay
Among the lush grass on a pleasant Spring day

Birds of the waterways of many of do know
The dark brown dippers of breasts white as snow
Are singing today where the waterways meet
In the green countryside near the Town of Millstreet.
