The fields of Macroom where Sullane waters flow
Home to rook and badger and silver back crow
Far north of this Country even as the bird fly
In distance 'twould seem thousands of miles of sky
Old Danny the years have left him looking gray
He would be a stranger in Macroom today
Not been back to his first homeplace since nineteen eighty three
The Town of Macroom he may never more see
A grandfather ten times estranged from his wife
A man who knows of the ups and downs of life
He may never again see the wildflowers in bloom
In spring by the Sullane near the Town of Macroom
And only the memories with him do remain
Of friends and relations he will not see again.
