Though Of Awards And Honours

Though of awards and honours you may never win
You can make the World better to live in
By performing a good deed or two every day
And being kind to others in a compassionate way
You may not be one of the admired of the town
But in your words you never put anyone down
Live and let live are the rules you live by
In your words of a fair go anyone you never deny
For your future you do sow the good seed
By helping if you can anyone of  your help in need
To some doing it tough some joy you help to bring
And for doing this your own praises you never sing
You may never be one of the town's admired
But the plaudits of others you have never desired.

Not One Person

Not one person who knows everything in truth one can say
But from other people you learn something new every day
This is if you are open to learning but not all are this way
Though everyone in the sharing of knowledge have their own part to play
Life's lessons as is said are not of the few
But from other people every day one should learn something new
But sadly for those who their own praises do love to sing
On their journey in life they are not learning a thing
You are not open to knowledge when you can only refer to the i
Just a simple fact and fact never lie
The most knowledgeable people on their side of the town
Does live their lives as strangers to renown
But they learn as they live from other people and true to say
Those open to learning do learn every day.

J J Hinchion

As a young man J J Hinchion was broad shouldered and tall
For Macroom, Canovee, Cork and Millstreet he played Gaelic football
In his physical prime years he played against and held his own against Ireland's best
Gaelic footballers from Munster, Leinster and Ulster and Connacht in the west

A dashing forward and defender and a hard nut to crack
He often turned defence into attack
Far beyond Canovee in the Muskerry countryside
In Ireland's Gaelic Football circles he became known far and wide

He earned his living as an auctioneer and in real estate
But time as is said does seal everyone's fate
Like every renowned sports person in their physical prime
J J too became a victim of time

In St Colman's Cemetery in Macroom his last remains rest in peace
For all of us from life a final release
Strong and fearless but sporting in the field of play
J J he was quite a man on his day

As a Gaelic footballer and business man for himself he made a name
But he was one quite unaffected by fame
In his prime in Ireland he was known Nationwide
And was known by club and County fans to have on your side.

Live For Your Freedom

That heroes die brave and young is based on a lie
Live for your freedom for it do not die
Hero worship of no use to the dead
They cannot dream of  the good times ahead

Life is the greatest gift anyone does possess
Far greater than any other form of success
The longest lived human life of time not that long a span
So live for as long as you possibly can

Live for life is for those who do live on
The dead just a memory in the living of those from life gone
Dead heroes never hear when The Last Post is played
And only the living do march in the war memorial parade

Honor to the brave war dead is surely their due
But that life only matter is only saying what is true
Of the praises of the dead you may hear many sing
But life after all is a wonderful thing.

Only The Bravest

Life's like a game you do not always win
But the will to keep on going through the tough times in you comes from within
Some of the financially down in life struggling to cope
Choose death over life when they live without hope
Life can be so hard on the mentally and financially down
And no shortage of their sort in any city or town
It is when you do not have the price of a drink in the local public bar
That you come to know of who your true friends are
In a World where many unemployed people for jobs do compete
Every day for the poor one a new challenge to meet
For one to win big many have to lose
Though losing is a thing anyone does not choose
When any hope of success from them has gone
Only the bravest in life battle on.

It Is Only Saying

It is only saying what happens to be so
That one with many friends is not without a foe
With one you both dislike why otherwise pretend
The enemy of your enemy can become your friend
It can be from similar dislikes that friendships are made
By similarities in friendships a huge part is played
It is often when good friends fall out that dislike begin
And a friendship once lost one may not again win
Of serious crimes between former friends and lovers we often hear of and of read
As well as disagreements about money such a thing to hatred that lead
Your acquaintances many and your friends in the few
And this is not saying anything that is new
The one with many friends is not without a foe
This is only saying what happens to be so

The Love For You In Your Dog

In dogs it is something one regularly find
But not very often in us human kind
The woman may lose the love of her husband and the man may lose the love of his wife
But the love of your dog for you is a love that is for life
For a good feed and few kind words and a walk every day
Your dog as your true friend it's short lifetime will stay
With human relationships it is seldom this way
In long term relationships in love few does stay
But on the love and loyalty of your dog you can always depend
Than her or him you do not have a more loyal or a truer friend
Unrequited love between humans to say the least rare
This is something that most people of are aware
But if you are kind to your dog in loyalty and love you it will repay
And for it's short lifetime as your true friend will stay.

As Old As

A woman is as old as she looks it does seem this way
And a man is old when he stops looking as some like to say
These are well known cliches from the distant past
That over the Seasons of time seem to last
But for an old bloke in admiring of young beauty no harm it is true
As long as his thoughts he does not pursue
An old bloke is allowed to look but not look too much
But he is committing a serious crime if he chooses to touch
With women you stay out of trouble if you only do
What the law allows and expects of you
Just a few admiring glances is always okay
But all other thoughts in you do keep at bay
A woman is as old as she looks happens to be true
And that a man is old when he stops looking some credence is due.

Nearly Everyone Has Their Own Secrets

Nearly everyone has their own secrets from others to hide
This is how it is with people Worldwide
Those without some secrets to say the least rare
This is something that most people of are aware
Those who publicly broadcast their secrets to the judgments of the judgmental open themselves leave
And favourable judgments of the judgmental few ever receive
Though the secrets of most people does not  involve crime
They remain hidden in them for their lifetime
Some of how financially wealthy they are in public may boast
But of how much money they have is a secret to most
People since they do not trust the government and live with the fear
That the tax office would look into their dealings if of their wealth the government accountants did hear
Those without some secret to hide to say the least of the few
This is only saying something  that to anyone is not new.

Nature Rules

When Nature grows angry she causes death and tears
And bad memories of her anger does linger for years
Of financial losses due to her to wind, earthquake, flood, tsunami and fire
Nature leaves death and destruction on her wake in her moods of ire
Nature is above human law in a court she cannot be tried
That she is a law unto herself of her cannot be denied
Millions of people have died because of her going back the decades of time
Nature is one who rules by her own law injury or death by her is not a crime
When Nature grows angry she cause widespread fear the Earth with her power she does shake
beautiful buildings to rubble reduced in every earthquake
In fires and floods, tsunamis and storms people die and buildings and homes destroyed
Nature is the one not people who rules in every Country Worldwide
When Nature grows angry death and havoc she create from her there is nowhere to hide
She not human beings does rule the World of her this cannot be denied.

On Cows Grieving

Most creatures for the loss of their young do grieve
This is something that should not be hard to believe
The red hereford cows in the nearby paddock bellowing night and day
For their weanling calves by the farmer from them taken away
Their calves not yet fully grown at the salesyard have been sold
Varied in age from six to eight months old
Hoarse from bellowing for a week all day and all night
Though time against grief always does win the fight
The bellowing of cows for their calves in the Fall of the year
Is always a very sad thing for to hear
Those who tell you cows do not grieve their own falsehoods believe
And those who believe them are not hard to deceive
The red hereford cows at the loss of their calves in the paddock nearby
Are bellowing loud grief in their every cry.

The Unsung

Of far more selfless people of the Human World of is in need
For as a species they are endangered indeed
Though they do serve the needs of the financially down
They are among the admired of any city or town
Without the rewards of money for pay
They help those who are most in need of helping every day
In war zones and famine areas helping the suffering and dying
That they are truly great people there can be no denying
To their higher selves they remain ever true
And so few of them ever receive the credit they are due
Among the rare selfless some old and some young
And sad to think their praises are seldom sung
Of any public admiration the most of them lose out
And of the wealthy and famous we read of  and hear so much about.

Were I Born A Poet

Were i born a poet and with words had a way
I would write of Nature's beauty i see every day
The beauty that i do not pay for to see
Everyday in my walks it is all around me
My love of Nature it only has grown
And so much about her remains to be known
She helps Mother Earth to grow the food to feed humanity
And the beauty she creates to view to all is free
A sad thing indeed of to be aware
Many of her wild species of fauna are becoming aware
For the beauty she creates her i can only admire
And of singing her praises i for one cannot tire
Yet from my many lessons of her i have come to realize
That of her i know little this is not a surprise.

I Have Not Seen Old Clara

I have not seen old Clara for so many years
Though good memories no longer reduce me to tears
Of the old hill that overlooks the Town of Millstreet
And the fields of the green countryside where the waterways meet
Just one of many people who went to live elsewhere
Far from old Clara in the big World out there
Far from the fields of the badger and waterways of the brown trout
Like many other migrants of Ireland i do live far south
In the old fields of Claraghatlea i grew to love Nature as a young boy
And learning about her today i enjoy
In the home of echidna and black wallaby and grey kangaroo
And white long billed corella and yellow tailed black cockatoo
And though i may never climb on Clara again
Fond memories of the old hill i do retain.

So Many Judgmental People

So many judgmental people critical of young people who are on government dole
And they verbally dismiss them as people who do not have a soul
Though on their government payments they struggle to survive
And cannot even afford a second hand car for to drive
Most of the  young people on welfare have a sense of pride
And do not find any pleasure on being unemployed
They live in high unemployment areas which is against their chances of a job start
On work opportunities for young people postal address plays a huge part
So many judgmental people in the World of today
But having this said it has always been this way
So many judgmental people who judge the financially down
Their sort have never been rare in any city or town
Than being the unpaid judges of financially disadvantaged people they could find better things with their time to do
This is how i feel about it whatever about you?

On Nature

Such joy to those who love her she does bring
And of her praises her admirers always happy to sing
Of Nature every day we do learn something new
One can say of her that her lessons are not of the few
Of Nature something new to learn of every day
We never stop learning in truth one can say
In her there is so much beauty for to see
It is all around you and it is all around me
A beauty to view that financially to everyone is free
To live on as mental pictures in the memory
It is common knowledge and sad of to be aware
That some of Nature's creatures have become quite rare
Of more friends Nature and Mother Earth are in need
To say we depend on them for our survival is a truism indeed.

Everybody Needs A Dream

Everybody needs a dream in life to pursue
Though so few in their lifetime see their dream come true
Only the minority their dream does achieve
What most people does wish for in life they never receive
Though none wish to be among the financially down
There are winners and losers in every town
But the big winners of the World only of the few
And this is not saying anything that is new
But those with a dream though financially struggling to cope
Are people of better times not without hope
But due to their dream they wish to live on
In hope that their bad days from their lives soon will be gone
When times get financially tough on them those without a dream find it harder to cope
Than those with a dream who find solace in hope.

Big J And Sue

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder as a truism does remain
In different eyes we see difference which it's own self seems to explain
Big J not an expert on beauty says he has a beautiful wife
He says Sue is the town's unsung beauty she is the great love of his life
Their son John was nine on his last birthday he is in primary school
Big J says like his beautiful mother their handsome son is nobody's fool
But with Big J's  ideas on beauty many do choose to disagree
Sue though quite nice as a person as looks go looks quite ordinary
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder this is how it is and how it always will be
The one beautiful to one person any beauty in many cannot see
Big J is biased in his opinions when it comes to his soulmate Sue
Though many do not rate her as attractive he is only saying what to him is true
My wife Sue is an unsung beauty This is what Big J does like to say
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder to some it is always this way.

A Migrant

Far from where he was born and raised he lives and works elsewhere
As a migrant in a city in the big World out there
In his mid thirties with a wife and two daughters of six and five
Most weekends he takes his family on a scenic drive
Since in his early twenties when he left his hometown
The roadways of life he has been up and down
He is happy and settled into family life
With his two lovely young daughters and his beautiful wife
His mum and dad in their early seventies ageing in the old hometown to day
As the migratory bird flies from where he lives far away
He has not been back home for at least ten years
But for the what used to be he has shed his last tears
The accent he brought with him today he does retain
And as a migrant in this city he does remain.

Hooray To The People

Hooray to the people in life doing it tough
For trying their best and this is good enough
Since their best is the best that anybody can do
This is how i do see it whatever about you
In prison they never did spend any time
And though financially broke they never resorted to crime
Though life for them has been an uphill fight
And they have often been homeless and hungry and have had to sleep rough at night
They have survived their tough times and are doing well today
And working full time in a job for good take home pay
These are the people i can gladly adimire
And of singing their praises i never could tire
They may not be among the admired of the town
But they rose again after being financially down.

Going By Your Opinions

Going by your opinions your ideas in life are quite different to mine
And though you are of majority thinking this suits me fine
Though with the most of your ideas i do not agree
In different eyes a different World we does see
You believe that the poor of the World for being poor have only themselves to blame
So many in their thinking and opinions to you much the same
You never take circumstance of birth and parental financial circumstances into account
And therefore your opinions on the worth or lack of  on other people to only ignorance amount
Of the praises of the wealthy and famous you do like to sing
But you and your sort change for the better to the Human World never bring
Majority thinking upholds inequality and increases the gap in the social divide
And so many like you are in Countries Worldwide
That you are entitled to your opinions with me is quite okay
But than to me you look at life in a different way.

Time Tells On Everyone

Time tells on everyone in truth one can say
And nobody does grow younger by the day
A great grandmother many times a senior citizen of the town
In her late eighties she dyes her hair brown

Quite an attractive looking woman in her physical prime
But hair dyes and anti ageing creams cannot turn back the hands of time
Her husband ten years ago of a heart attack died
From old age and death there is nowhere to hide

Though looking well for her years no longer a great beauty to behold
Nobody grows younger but everyone does grow old
But she has had her good innings one does have to suppose
Before death the petals does fall from the rose

She was the town beauty many decades ago
But time that ages everyone has become her foe
To time we all surrender eventually
For everyone born into life this is how it must be

We are born to age and die truer words never said
And death of everyone does lay ahead
The mythical legend of  Tir Na Nog
Was first brought to life by a lovable rogue.

Bill And Eveleen

Few loves last a lifetime despite what some like to say
Young Bill in his twenties with a different young woman today
Two months ago he was in love with dark haired Eveleen
Hand in hand walking in the park they were often seen
And as for Eveleen she has another young man in her life
And she has agreed for to become his wife
She says she loved Bill of time for awhile
But he had eyes for other women she added with a smile
True love has been the inspiration of song, story and rhyme
And few loves ever last over decades of time
After being in love for a short while Bill's eyes start to stray
Some males cannot help it if they are this way
And as for Eveleen she has found someone new
To fall in and out of love she is not one of the few.

An Ego That Is Out Of Control

A person of great power whose ego is out of control
On the lives of others does take it's toll
In the annals of human history because of them millions of people have had crippling injuries or died
And so much natural beauty because of them has been destroyed
By autocrats and dictators in Countries Worldwide
The people of great power of the mental darker side
To say dictators are bad people is not stating a lie
But their sort are born and their sort do die
In the mass graves of the World gone to decay
The bodies of their victims forever lay
It is not parcels of food from their air force planes on people they shower
The narcissistic people who command great power
Of darkness of mind and darkness of soul
The people with an ego that is out of control.

Australia

Long before the arrival of the first people in Australia thousands of centuries ago
Sixty or seventy thousand of years or so
The age of Australia will never be told
Before the age of the dinosaurs it was even old
It has inspired the writers of song, story and rhyme
This vast southern Country that is so old in time
Long before the arrival of  Europeans going back a few centuries
Australia's first people enjoyed their corroborees
As they danced they did sing in the shade of the trees
On warm summer evenings over thirty degrees
But due to dispossession many of the tribes did disappear
And of the human history of Australia not all good stories we read of  or of hear
But such is the human history of  most Countries Worldwide
The hidden mass graves of the World have their secrets to hide.

To Be Different From Others

To be different from others of nothing about to boast
One reason why to himself he never drinks a toast
He is not a member of any sporting or community club
And though he often does drink there he does not have any mates in the local pub
Since he is not interested in politics or sports or any code of football
And local gossip of no interest to him at all
Looked on by many in the town as one who is strange
Since he believes that many good things come with change
Multiculturalism is something he likes to embrace
And he treats as equal every nationality and race
He does not differentiate between people of black, white and brown
But not many like him in any city and town
He is one of the tribeless and his sort are few
And this is not saying anything that is new.

For The True Gentleman

With a hard boss to work for and no easy pay
For him it has been just another bad day
With teenage children who do not respect him and a domineering wife
For the true gentleman nothing easy in life
Quite gentle and kind in his own quiet way
For himself he never does have that much to say
Life is not always fair to good people in this there is truth
And never to the gentle soul who in him has ruth
He is not a member of  any community or sporting club
And seldom has a drink at the local pub
But his aged neighbour Ann says he is her best friend
When she needs a money free helping hand on him she can depend
Though his sort helps to make a better World to live in
For the true gentleman in life never a win.

The Now Is Today

The past just a memory as has often been said
And the future is the unknown of what of us lay ahead
But the now is all that does matter and the now is today
And we should make the most of the now as the wise one does say
Who is to say what the future for anyone will bring
In life there is only one certain thing
That there is only one ceratinty in life this is death
For all of us of air there is a final breath
That we all have our dreams in life to pursue
Is only stating what is obviously true
But this is only hoping for us what we hope will be
Though in reality into the future we cannot see
The past just a memory in truth one can say
The now is all that does matter and the now is today.

On Unhappiness

Unhappiness comes to many of great wealth and fame
Of the happy wealthy and famous so few one could name
A truly happy person does not exist today
Though money speaks every language as the wise one does say
And the accumulation of large amounts of money is looked on as the greatest form of success
Yet it never can buy anyone happiness
But surely anybody would not disagree
With that it is better to be wealthy and unhappy than being poor and unhappy living in poverty
The praises of money many well may sing
And with money you can buy a lot but not everything
And one of these is happiness a great gift indeed
That always has the thing known as joy as it's seed
Among the wealthy and famous the happy are few
And this is not saying anything that is new.

A Love That Is Lost

He says to her i am not the one that you think that is me
And i cannot be the one that you wish me to be
And since you do not hold me in your sense of  high self esteem
I am not your idea of a soulmate to me it does seem

I do not look up to the people you admire
To be like any of your role models i feel no desire
On our values and beliefs we are as different as day is from night
This does not mean you are wrong or that i am right

Years ago i did love you more than i do today
But then in life few things as they were do stay
Few loves last a lifetime one has to suppose
For my birthday you no longer give me a rose

In this town like any other town there are some old dears
Who remain in love after living together for years
For to achieve this they have to be soulmates and soulmates are rare
Am i telling you something of which you are aware

Most good things in life does come at a cost
And few ever again find a love that is lost
And the loves that last a lifetime are only of the few
But i do hope you find love in somebody new.

Old Tarwin

Old Tarwin deep and slow silently moves along
Towards the Pacific shore in the land of Bunurong
To saltwater ever onwards winding it's way
To it's journeys end near the Town of Venus Bay
Old Tarwin that has inspired the writers of song, story and rhyme
Was very old in the Dreaming Time
Long before the birth of the first dinosaur the waterway now known as Tarwin did flow
On towards saltwater dark, deep silent and slow
Of old Tarwin time never has become the foe
Long before the arrival of the first people thousands of centuries ago
And since there has been many a yesterday
Old Tarwin towards the ocean was crawling it's way
The last of the Bunurong to time have long gone
But old Tarwin to the ocean forever flows on.

On St Patrick's Day

On St Patrick's Day in Koroit it is twenty six degrees
And white butterflies seemingly dancing in the coastal breeze
In the mostly  sunny blue sky just a few clouds of gray
For early Autumn and March quite a warm sunny day
Different to the St Patrick's Day in Ireland i knew in the long ago
In weather cold, wet and windy since time has become my foe
A day of celebration in every Irish town
On the streets the pipe bands led the celebratory floats up and down
In Australia on St Patrick's Day in the towns no parade
But in the pubs an old Irish tradition is not allowed to fade
The patrons enjoy the Irish music, song and cheer
And celebrate the occasion on drinking green beer
And enjoy the evening of music and song
In the Town in the countryside of the Peek Wurrong.

Another Football Season

Another Football Season has just begun
But to the fans of the clubs it is not a game of fun
The fans of the winning club happy and the fans of the losing club feeling sad
For the fans of football there is the good and the bad
Kate in her forties whose ex husband Tim is a fan of football
Says she cannot understand the game at all
Grown men chasing one ball with the fans shouting loud
One of her dislikes in life the noisy football crowd
The reson she says she is divorced from Tim
Is that she does not share any common interest with him
He and their son Joe are both patrons of their local pub
And on Saturday meet there after the game involving their favourite football club
Another Football Season has just begun the fans celebrate
But the thought of this does not bring any joy to Kate.

Flawed Heroes

Their names etched forever on a memorial wall
We make heroes of people who are not heroes at all
Statues and sculptures of them in every village and city and town
Though most of them not worthy of such renown
Some false heroes have been found out in time
As the perpetraters of many a serious crime
Time does eventually tell what is true
For many admired as heroes such worship is not their due
Many known to be heroes are now in disgrace
Nowadays no longer the pride of their clan or their race
Since they are flawed human beings who are not free of taint
A hero is one quite different to a saint
The criminal of the future may be the hero of today
In human history it often does work out this way.

A Boobook Owl Calls

On the moonlit gum trees to where i am nearby
The call of a boobook owl re-echoes in the sky
The brown medium sized hawk owl who hides from the lamp of day
Mopoke mopoke is all he has to say
His loud calling wake the small birds in the bushes close by who take to flight
They fly to distant cover from the hunter of the night
It is born in their genes and etched in their mind
That boobook owl do like to prey on their kind
I have witnessed magpies and crows by day on discovering a boobook roosting on a tree
Harass and drive the brown owl from their territory
The price for a nocturnal bird of prey for to pay
Is to be harassed by others birds in the light of day
In the still of the night under a moonless sky
A boobook owl calls on the tall trees nearby.

Seems True To Say

Her body language did seem obvious to me
As i rushed towards the public toilet bursting for a pee
Wih a smirk of amusement on her pretty young face
At an old bloke who did not look the picture of grace
What was funny to her was not so to me
In different eyes difference we do see
By her smirking and giggling she was having much fun
Watching an old bloke to the public toilet trying for to run
To make it without wetting my pants i did feel relieved and glad
Though far worse experiences in life i have had
I did bring some fun to a teenagers day
But sadly for me the fun it was one way
For living a long life some price for to pay
That old age can be a punishment seems true to say.

The Lessons Of Life

The lessons of life are not of the few
And every day we live we learn something new
Of ourselves and others from life we learn as we live
We receive from life more than to life we give
We learn as we live something new every day
We never stop learning life works on this way
Those who think they know everything of more knowledge not in need
One can say of them they are lucky indeed
Since they believe that they do know everything
And only fools the praises of knowledge does sing
On the day you left school learning for you did not end
In life we never stop learning why otherwise pretend
We learn from life something new every day
We never stop learning life works on this way.

Narcissism Is Thriving

In the twenty first century self promotion is an in thing
And so many their own praises do love to sing
Narcissism is thriving as the wise one does say
With many it does seem that it is this way
Perhaps i too am narcissistic since what i dislike in others i dislike in me
But then to be flawed seems to be part of our humanity
We all need some ego in the World to survive
And narcissism take over in an ego on overdrive
So many they like to tell of their success
And others are only too willing for to impress
Like many i too have grown old but not wise
Though of their own flaws the more enlightened come to realize
The flaws i see see in others are also in me
But many with this would choose to disagree.

William Henry Ogilive

As a drover and horse breaker he earned some renown
As the outback of the big country he travelled up and down
In his twelve years in Australia he became a writer of note
And his fame lives today as a talented poet

William Henry Ogilive returned to Scotland in his physical prime
In the early twentieth century this is going back in time
Where he continued writing his memorable poetry that people enjoy reading today
That good poetry long outlives it's writer does seem true to say

Due to his book of poems published in Australia 'Fair Women And Gray Horses' he became a great literary name
As a best selling book of poetry it assured him of literary fame
Ogilive was one who with words had a way
In his time with the popularising of poetry his own part he did play

His poems have withstood the literary time test
Among the poets of his lifetime William Heny Ogilive was one of the best
In his Homeland of Scotland he lived out his life span
As well as a poet he was a remarkable man.

A Memory Of A Teenage Beauty

Long before time did become our foe
I knew her to see her a long time ago
An attractive teenager with dark brown hair and in manner quite shy
Mental pictures remain of her from Seasons long gone by

I have been told that she is of the living of today
But if she is a mother and partnered i do not know of for to say
Though shy she was quite attractive looking with a beautiful smile
A down to earth country girl free of conceit and guile

Perhaps i would not recognize her if i see her today
Time chsnges one's appearance it works on this way
Memories of her as a teenager in me does live on
But since i last see her many Seasons have gone

In her younger years a beauty to behold
But most women lose some of their youthful beauty as they grow old
She would be now in her seventies well past her physical prime
And eventually we all become victims of time.

As The Wise Grandmother Said

As the wise grandmother said to her granddaughter and grandson
Tomorrow will dawn but not for everyone
For some people this is their last living day
We are born to eventually die life works on this way
That ageing and death are natural things happens to be so
And eventually time becomes everyone's foe
Many people believe the human soul outlives bodily death
That it lives on elsewhere when we draw our life's final breath
On this ask one other more informed than me
Since i only believe the things i do see
I am not a theologian with theological degrees
Who lectures on religion in universities
Only know for all of us there is a last night and day
We are born to die life works on this way.

A Terrible Thing

It is a sad thing for to have to say
That we read of and hear of war stories every day
That the bodies of good people have the stench of decay
Under the rubble of bombed buildings in war torn cities far away
Many people die in every bomb blast
And nothing has been learned from wars of the past
People buried in mass graves who have died in a foul way
Of war there is not any good thing to say
Those with great power of criminal mind
To seek peaceful solutions are uninclined
The people who will never be short listed for any peace prize
Who only grow more aggressive with age but never more wise
The praises of war heroes the patriots may sing
But the reality of war is a terrible thing.

It Is Even A Sad Thought

In a World where many are hungry and homeless for every millionaire
It is even a sad thought of for to be aware
That the wealthy and famous so many admire
And just to be like them in life their desire
Yet most of the wealthy and famous do not help those of helping in need
And for a better World to live in for all does not plant the seed
Yet why their admirers are many one does wonder why
That money speaks every language seems hard to deny
Though not among the wealthy and admired of the town
The one who does help the financially down
For her or his kindness admirers they may never win
But are helping to make a better World for all to live in
There is truth in the saying it is not the good things for yourself that you choose to do
But the good things for others you do that tells of the good in you

Would You Not Agree

In his house of worship he often does pray
And god is his soul saviour he often does say
But on his words on poor people and refugees he is not very kind
And he is one who does not have a god of the mind
The god he does worship of his sort not in need
But he is one of many he is not of a rare breed
So many hypocritical people in the World of today
Who do not honor their religious beliefs in any sort of a way
His next door neighbour an atheist loves all of humanity
And for those doing it tough in life feels great empathy
And a better World for all to live in he is trying to create
Since between people he never does differentiate
And he is nearer to god would you not agree
Than his so called religious neighbour who condemn the poor and every refugee?

Dino

Silver haired and balding he may never more see
The city he was born in and raised far north in Italy
The years are showing in Dino far south of Milan
Sixty years in Australia of time a lengthy span
Eight years ago of cancer his wife Jan passed away
To each other devoted he still talks of her today
Many time a great grandfather he is growing old on his own
And of better days in life he surely of has known
He speaks English rather well and is easy to understand
Though he still retains the accent he brought from his homeland
Quite a lot to like in Dino he is honest generoous and kind
He is the sort of person who does seem pure of mind
In his ways warm and friendly he says hello to all he meet
When he is out walking in the park or on the street.

Of The Changes In Millstreet

I have been told of the changes in Millstreet Town
Where on old Clara mountain as ever looks down
The Millstreet i knew a monocultural place
Nowadays is home to many a race
But multiculturalism is such a good thing
And i for one it's praises feel happy to sing
For any monocultural town new races a big win
And such towns are more interesting to live in
In sports the green of Millstreet many young people nowadays of different races does wear
Multiculturalism in Ireland is no longer rare
The twenty first century has brought some  changes for the better and it would be true to say
That Ireland is a multicultural Country today
And Millstreet in Duhallow is a known multicultural place
It has become home to people of many a race.

The Happiest Man In The Town

To worry about he does not have a partner or children in spirit he is never down
He laughs and the whole World laughs with him the happiest man in the town
In his late twenties not a stranger to love making women to his life come and go
He has had many one night stands with him this happens to be so

On a good time he spends his week's wages on Sunday evening he is broke
But he never does seem to worry he is such a carefree young bloke
He says i have come into this World with nothing and with nothing to my name i will die
And when he says he has no worries you know to you he does not lie

On Saturday evening in the pub he is always in the mood for song
With a beer in his hand he is singing lending joy to the sing along
Not one of the town's high achievers others he never wish to impress
One of the few people in the town not in the race for material success

Perhaps he will never have a long term partner or a wife
As he could not offer any woman financial security in life
Always broke after the weekend he enjoys his every pub night
Yet he is happy drunk or sober and never in the mood for fight.

The Buyer And The Seller

Two men were looking at a big old growth tree
Great natural beauty in it one of them did see
But the other with him choose to disagree
He said what looks beautiful to you stands in the way of progress to me
A government protected tree on the outskirts of the town
On land bought by a developer for development that is forbidden to be cut down
When he purchased the land he did not realize
That the huge tree was protected which came to him as a surprise
Had he paid a tree removalist to remove the tree a huge fine he would have had to pay
But out of his financial predicament he did find a way
By re-selling the land as a non development property
To a buyer who loves the protected big tree
As they stood looking at the tree the seller to the buyer did say
What is beautiful to you of progress to me stands in the way.

Jim

For one of ninety five though the hair on his balding head gray
For his age he looks healthy and is feeling quite okay
He says by twenty five years i have outlived Melinda my wife
And our eldest son Tom too has lost his gift of life

Jim was good at football as a young man
But this is going back in time quite a lengthy span
But only the memories in him does last
Of the sporting fame he knew of in the distant past

From his flat in the retirement village he walks to the park evey day
And says hello to everyone he meets on his way
Like is said time on the best of them eventually does show
His fastest pace nowadays to say the least slow

In his best years he was dark haired and handsome, broad shouldered and tall
And was a champion player in his code of football
But going back the Seasons this seem long ago
And eventually time becomes everyone's foe.

Some Men From The Past

Some men from the past have not learned at all
Young men still want their names on the war memorial wall
For to be remembered in war they die brave
And at a young age they go to an early grave
Yet war and rumor of it we hear of and read of every day
Few men learn from the past it does seem this way
Always young men willing to die for a war to be won
And the mother left to grieve for her war dead son
Lessons not learned from the past it does seem sad to say
People dying in war zones somewhere every day
Yet life is the greatest gift anyone does possess
Far greater than any other form of success
And young men who die in war give their greatest gift away
Though they are remembered for their bravery today.

The Fruits Of The Karma

The fruits of the Karma we sow in life we do receive
On this i am one who happens to believe
Though many with this thinking do disagree
Each to their own view is how it seems to be
What goes around comes around some like to say
If for our crimes and sins against others to the law we do not pay
Then Karma will pay us a visit one day
There are those who will tell you life works on this way
Though on this i too believe i well may be wrong
The truth to anyone does not belong
What is true to you may not be so to me
This is how it is and how it always will be
In Karma we are told we reap what we sow
On this i believe in but of do not know.

Are You One Of The Many

Are you one of the many who has felt close to tears
In your memories of the past and the long gone years
And the games with your young friends that you did play
In the public park of your first hometown far away
On looking back the Seasons this now seems long ago
And time that ages all life has become your foe
And only the memories today you retain
Of what was for you but will not be again
Your best days long gone and old age to you near
But whenever the laughter of children in the park playground you hear
It takes you way back in distance and time
To when you were young before you reached your physical prime
And all you have now are memories of the past
With old age to you approaching quite fast.

Friends Of The Earth And Nature

The tiny life forms that do fear the brightness of light
They hide in dark places out of predator sight
Under the earth surface, rocks or fallen timber or behind bark of a tree
Nature's tiny life forms that one seldom does see
Friend of the Earth and Nature in truth of them one can say
On the health of the natural environment a huge part they does play
Humans who dismiss them as unimportant how wrong they must be
With that ignorance is bliss seems hard with to disagree
From the eyes of predators well hidden away
In hiding by night and in hiding by day
Working for the health of the Earth and Nature their short lives they devote
Yet by the majority of people seen as unworthy of note
Though those who know of their value to the Earth and Nature their praises do sing
And this in itself is a very good thing.

A Beauty For To View

A beauty for to view money we do not have to pay
The beauty around us we does see every day
Even people in cities and towns in their parklands every day see
Nature's beauty in every flowering plant, bush and tree
Nature the one who has ways of her own
And so much about her remains to be known
Even by students of her who on her have university degrees
There is far more to Nature than her waterways, fauna and flora, plants and trees
We learn from Nature something new every day
We never stop learning in truth one can say
And the more we learn of her the more we come to realize
That of her we know little this not a surprise
Those who believe they know everything of Nature believe their own lie
We will be learning from her until the day we do die.

Than Your Dog

For unconditional love and companionship on her or him you can depend
Than your dog you do not have a truer friend
A woman may lose the love of her husband or a man may lose the love of his wife
But the love of you by your dog is a love that's for life
So many true stories of the bravery and loyalty of dogs Worldwide
On defense of their human friends and mentors so many of them have died
For it's love and loyalty to you all your dog does need
Is a short walk every day a few kind words and a good feed
Your dog as your devoted friend a lifetime does remain
The reason so many love their dogs it's own self does explain
Their life span is not long they do not live for many years
It is understandable at the death of their dog many are in tears
You can lose love once true but you can depend
For as long as it does live your dog will be your friend.

If Putin Had Love In Him

If Putin had love in him his army would not be inflicting pain
In their bombing and shelling of the people of Ukraine
Of harmony and kindness he offers death instead
The lust for ultimate power it has gone to his head

Narcissistic and arrogant and ruthless and it is sad to realize
That some males with great power like he has grow older and less wise
For him to declare war on Ukraine all logic defies
Still with him and his sort nothing seems to surprise

For him in Ulkraine there cannot be a win
For the Ukranians are fighters and they will never give in
Even though they are outnumbered they will never cower
Under the forces of a bigger power

In the war in Ukraine for Putin there will not be a victory
He will withdraw his troops from his neighbour Land and bring them home eventually
So many Ukranian troops and civilians and toops of his own army have died
His withdrawal from Ukraine will be a huge dent to his pride

If Putin had love in him it would not be this way
His troops would not be at war with their neighbours today
On ordering the invasion of Ukraine he has done the wrong thing
Any joy to the World his sort never does bring.

On Love Of Self

People who to others are generous and kind
Are those who are blessed with love of self in the mind
In the helping of others they often go out of their way
And perform a good deed or two every day
Those with an abundance  of love in them have love for to share
And of the needs of others are always aware
They are the friends of the poor of the town
And often come to the aid of the financially down
There is truth on what the wise mother said to her son
If you cannot love yourself you cannot love anyone
Those with love in them prizes and awards for themselves may not win
But for others they help to make a better World to live in
The good things you do for others says more about you
Than the good things for yourself that you choose to do.

Some Things In Nature

Some things in Nature never cease to surprise
Willy wagtails black and white small birds aggressive for their size
From their territory try to drive much bigger birds like crows and magpies away
Such thing for to be seen in Nature every day
Those who much of the ways of Nature does know
Say the reason the willy wagtail  does attack a magpie or a crow
Is that they eat their eggs and on their young in the nest prey
A reason for all things as some like to say
They treat every magpie and crow as an enemy
And try to drive them from their territory
The war between them does go on every day
But the magpies and crows in the wagtails territory stay
The war by willy wagtails on magpies and crows is an ongoing thing
That seems to increase with the coming of Spring.

There Are Winners And Losers

There are winners and losers in every village and city and town
And for one to rise another one does drop down
And every day people for success does compete
No one does wish to know of the poor of the street
So lucky are they who others never wish to impress
Who have chosen to opt out opf the race to success
In the twenty first century self promotion is the in thing
So many their own praises do love to sing
The race to success does go on and on
And the days of humility are in the long gone
But the successful like the failures become the same one day
For death on the lives of all people has the final say
And the gap ever growing on the social divide
As the race to success goes on Worldwide.

On Magpie Larks

Medium sized black and white birds i see every day
Peewee peewee one often hear them say
In a cup shaped mud nest high on fork of tree
The female lay pale pink dotted eggs of five, four or three
Known as magpie lark, mudlark or by many as peewee
In backyards and paddocks them one does regularly see
With their head ever bobbing as they walk around
In search of tiny insects they find on the ground
On all Seasons  Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall
As they raise their wings peewee or dooit they do call
In town parks and gardens and in the countryside
Familiar Australians they live Nation wide
Quite unmistakeable in appearance and song
Once seen and once heard one never again gets them wrong.

Ron

He is not or was  was never a good athlete
Though in many a race he does compete
He has never yet finished in first, second or third place
Yet he always does have a big smile on his face

In his early thirties a true sportsman Ron
His wife Jean and young son and daughter always there to cheer him on
His sort they are rare those who compete for fun
He is one who finds pleasure on his every run

On Ron's attitude to life a lesson for everyone
He finds joy in competing though he has never won
Of more people like he is the Human World is in need
One can say of his sort they are a rare breed

In any race he runs in never to the fore
Ron on his next birthday will be thirty four
A good sportsaman and good person of him one can say
We need more like him in the World of today.

You Help To Create

Admirers for yourself you may never win
But you can make the World better to live in
For helping one very poor person who of help is in need
For the betterment of humanity you can sow your own seed
You may not be a celebrity on your side of the town
Or looked on as one worthy of renown
But few of the very kind are known far and wide
Or seen to be worthy of being glorified
Though joy in their kind acts to many they bring
Of the praises of the selfless few ever do sing
They help people out of their kind nature not for money or praise
Without wishing for rewards or their personal profiles to raise
You may not be the one others do celebrate
But a better World to live in you help to create.

I Was Of The Fields

I was of the fields of the silver backed crow
Where Finnow the white river to the Blackwater flow
I left that old countryside many Seasons ago
And since time that ages has become my foe

When i was far younger in my physical prime
Those old fields i loved first inspired me to rhyme
But in reality those days are of the long past
And memories of what was are all that does last

Of my walks through the fields to where the waterways meet
In the green countryside near the Town of Millstreet
The good memories only last of the what used to be
And memories are quite different to reality

When people ask me where i come from i say
A place that from here in distance is far away
Claraghatlea where on Clara Hill ever looks down
Less than two kilometres west of Millstreet Town

Today i am ageing in this place far south
Of the fields of the badger and waterways of the brown trout
In the home of echidna, koala and roo
And white long billed corella and yellow tailed black cockatoo.

Dan

The roadways of life he has been up and down
Since he left his first home in the far away town
Going back the Seasons many years ago
Time that ages all life has become Dan's foe
He has had many short term partners but never a wife
And women they came to and went from his life
Of children if any he has fathered he does not know of to say
He does not have a partner or a lover today
In the big World out there he has travelled far and wide
He has lived and worked in many a city and town of many a countryside
An octogenarian his travelling days are in the past
Youth is a thing with anyone that does not last
Gray haired and balding he lives on his own
And of better days in life of he has known.

On The Passing Of Shane Warne

From death there is not anywhere for to hide
Sad news for fans of cricket Worldwide
Shane Warne the great Australian spin bowler has breathed his last
Death came to him unexpected and quite fast

Charisma on and off of the field in Shane did not lack
His end came to him in a major heart attack
In his early sixties this seems young to die
But that death is not ageist is not a lie

A father of three divorced from his wife
Shane who had many women in his life
Some women fall in a big way for men of wealth and fame
And Shane Warne was very wealthy and his was a Worldide known name

At the news of his sudden death cricket fans in disbelief
But as is said of time it does take care of grief
But despite his wealth and fame it feels a bit sad
To think he has lost forever the greatest gift he had

And that was his gift of life the greatest gift of all
And though arguably the greatest ever spin bowler of a cricket ball
When he lost his life he lost everything
Though cricket fans for decades his praises may sing.

Immortality For Us Human Beings

Immortality for us human beings is based on a lie
One fact of our existence is we are born to die
Death does not respect those of great wealth and fame
As the hungry and homeless it treats them as the same
The wealthy and famous many may admire
And of singing their praises none seem to tire
But death does not treat them any differently
Than those who exist in dire poverty
You may be famous and wealthy but on some night or day
The Reaper of lives will come reaping your way
And visit you uninvited and steal your life's breath
You only meet once with the monarch of death
Of all life forms including us humans from the great to the small
There is a last night and day for us all.

When The Last Human Being

When the last human being from the World has gone
Life on the Planet known as Earth will live on
Between human created Global Warming and wars it would be fair to say
That to extinction of our own kind we are on our way
Mother Earth without human beings would do quite okay
And for our abuse of her the price will be huge to pay
Our abuse of our Earth Mother is to all of our shame
For their poverty future generations will have us to blame
On our very survival on the Earth we depend
Yet we do not treat her as our greatest friend
We disrespect the one who feeds us for our human greed
And enough seems never enough to satisfy our financial need
And when the last human being from the World has gone
Life on this Planet known as Earth will surely live on.

Towards The Election

Time ticking on towards Australia's federal election day
When on the Liberal-National Coalition Government the voters will have their say
Will Scott Morrison be elected Prime Minister for another three years
Or on election night on his concession speech will he be choking back tears?
As many former Australian Prime Ministers have done in the past
Few good things in life ever does last
Could it be the Labor Party and Anthony Albanese's big night
And can he be the one with the smile of delight
Or like Bill Shorten before him could he have the look of disappointment on his face?
In politics no ovation for second place
On election night will it be for Scott or Anthony the cheering will be  loud
One of them will be looking and feeling happy and proud
And the other on his face the look of defeat
And out of the limelight will sadly retreat.

Of Nature

Of her every day we do learn something new
Her lessons are many and her secrets not few
And the more we learn of her the more we realize
That of her we know little this not a surprise

Nature is one who has ways of her own
And so much about her remains to be known
To students of her with natural science degrees
That they learned in their studies in universities

Of her i am an admirer in truth i can say
And of her i do learn something new every day
Of her creatures in my many walks i do see
Yet of her i know little which is humbling to me

Those who think they have nothing to learn believe their own lie
As we never stop learning until the day we do die
Nature to so many great joy does bring
Yet not one about her who knows everything.

It Is Only Saying Something

It is only saying something of most people of are aware
Most species of wildlife have become quite rare
More species on the endandagered list every day
To think of a sad thing in truth one can say

Clearing of land for develpoment by humans for financial gain
Is putting the existence of many species already endangered under strain
And extinction for some every day grows near
Sadly many species are growing rarer by the year

The Earth is for us humans to live in and with other creatures to share
But extinction draws nearer for wildlife with every new millionaire
Many creatures need trees and cover to survive
With each passing day in the World less creatures alive

For so many wild species on the endangered list human greed a huge part does play
And on the wildlife endangered list more new names every day
For the disappearing wildlife species humans mostly to blame
And sadly the greed of a minority becomes everyone's shame.

For This I Can Say

I have an inferiority complex to me it appear
For on talkback radio when i hear people talk of their career
I cannot tell of such a thing
If i could a sense of self satisfaction to me it would bring
Yet without a career i have managed to survive
To quite a good age i have turned seventy five
Without being what most does call as a life success
Without any notable achievements to my name others i do not impress
But since i never had a career perhaps i am lucky in a way
Since so many have their careers to boast of today
I just carry on with living life and do my own thing
And leave it to others their own praises to sing
Though a career in my life i have never had
For this i can say i have never felt sad.

Mother Earth

From the great blue whales to the tiny insects that crawl
Mother Earth is the one who does feed all
Life forms including us humans yet many of us do not treat her as our greatest friend
Though on our very existence on her we depend
Far too many of us abuse her for financial greed
Of far more human friends Mother Earth is in need
On the food she grows for us we depend on to live
Yet we take and take from her and in return to her little give
With the help of Mother Nature such beauty she create
Yet we do not have a World Earth Day holiday her to celebrate
We do not appreciate the one who does feed us which seems sad to say
And for our abuse of her future generations of people will pay
In shortage of food and for this they will have us to blame
On how we treat the one who does feed us is to all of our shame.

The Best You Can Be

You can only be the best best that you can be
With whoever first said this one has to agree
Your best try may not always be good enough
But at least you did not quit when things on you got tough
Only one at anything can be best in the town
And this is only one step nearer to greater renown
But they are quite courageous people indeed
Those who do not give up on their will to succeed
In life they may not achieve what they desire
But people like they are one can only admire
Since to the idea of failure they refuse to give in
Eventually their turn will come for to win
The fact is everyone cannot be a winner and fact one cannot deny
But one can only admire those who give it their best try.

One Of The Tribeless

Years ago he dropped out of the race for success
And others he feels no desire to impress
He is one who works hard for his take home pay
And for himself is one without much to say
In his forties without children or a relationship rumor has it he is gay
But no evidence of this is pointing his way
He does not have a hobby always on his own
And an aura of mystery around him has grown
Not one of a tribe he seems to lack in charm
Yet he is one who never does anyone harm
One of the few tribeless of a tribal town
And never in the race for even local renown
At any community gatherings him one never does see
He is one who does enjoy his own company.

Bill

The old fellow Bill said to his grandson
Time did not wait for me nor it does not wait for anyone
In my twenties i was like you with hair of dark brown
Nowadays just another old bloke in the town
Old Bill's wife June divorced him he is single today
And the hair on his balding head is silver gray
In her sixties to a younger man she is a devoted wife
And Bill does not have a partner in his life
If he has any cares of them he makes light
In the local pub on Saturday night
He is always in the mood for song
Happily singing in the sing along
Bill in his seventies tells his grandson Luke in his prime
Age comes on us quickly make the most of your time.

Love Lives Beyond The Grave

That love lives beyond the grave some credence is due
In some cases anyway it happens to be true
One such i know of is the widower Dave
His love of his deceased wife Ann lives beyond the grave
Though never more to go with her on a weekend car drive
His great love of her in him remains alive
Forty years of marriage together she was more to him than a good wife
She remains to him as the one great love of his life
Three years ago of a heart attack Ann died suddenly
Far from an old person she was sixty three
Their grandchildren teenagers Dave lives on his own
And happier days of in life he has known
It can be true love lives beyond the grave
The living proof of this surely is Dave.

One Who Will Keep Fighting On

His better days are in the forever gone
But it is his fear of death that makes him want to live on
Going through chemotherapy treatment and feeling quite ill
But to fight on for life he retains the strong will
His love of life and fear of death helps him to survive
In his mid sixties he fights to stay alive
He lives on his own separated from his wife
She left him when illness invaded his life
Of a recovery to full health the doctors little hope to him give
But he has the strong desire in him to live
He will not give up on life without a huge fight
At the end of his dark tunnel he can see light
For to make a full recovery from illness hope from him not gone
For life he is one who will keep fighting on.

Bullfinches

The male bullfinch of dark head, pink unders, blue on back and either wing
Does not have the most musical song for to sing
Low in volume and sounding a bit scratchy yet for their beauty admired
Many artists and writers to sketch and write of them known to be inspired
The duller coloured female in a saucer shaped nest of  twigs lined with hay
In a bush or a hedge four to seven blue brown dotted eggs lay
They eat seeds and fruit tree blossoms gardeners look on them as a pest
And protecting their fruit trees from them much time and money invest
They do not like the beautiful finches of the short stubby bill
And if the opportunity arises them they will kill
But bullfinches are clever and wary of humans as well they should be
And they quickly take to flight when a gardener they do see
These beautiful birds with the low in volume scratchy song
Once seen and once heard you never again will get wrong.

I Do Enjoy Rhyming

Since i do not feel worthy of literary note
I leave it to others to refer to me as a poet
Since my love of rhyme made a rhymer of me
And a rhymer at best is the best i can hope to be
I penned my first rhymes in nineteen seventy three
Just a year in time short of a half of a century
In human time this does seem long ago
And time that ages all life has since become my foe
And though my worth as a rhymer i seriously doubt
No shortage of things for to write rhymes about
Just for the love of doing it i write every day
But never for fame or the rewards of pay
If i did not love doing it i would give it away
I do enjoy rhyming in truth i can say.

On The First Of March

The sun  in the gray clouds is hidden away
It is raining in the coastal south west Moyne Shire today
From weeks of warm weather the coastal countryside brown and dry
The rain brings life to the thirsty earth from the overcast sky
North in New South Wales and Queensland now in major flooding the praises of rain nobody sing
But rain in moderation is a necessary thing
Weatherwise suppose everything in moderation is quite okay
The sun after rain enhances greenery and grass and crop growth Nature works on this way
On this the first day of March and the first day of the calendar southern Fall
Without rain and sun in the World it would be starvation for all
Nice to see some rain after a long dry spell
And this followed by sunshine will serve the earth well
After weeks of warm and dry weather we needed some rain
And so nice to hear the frogs singing again.

It's The People

Most of the people that people Worldwide do admire
And just to be like them in life their desire
Though wealthy and  materially  successful  and famous and millions of fans for themselves win
For those doing it tough does not make the World better to live in
It's the people that we do hear little about
Who helps those in need of helping in their times of greatest need out
Are the people who does most for the betterment of humanity
Since they are the friends of those in dire poverty
Though honours on them never bestowed at all
Their names will never appear on a memorial wall
For a better World for all to live in they help plant the seed
By helping the people of helping in need
They are never the admired of any city or town
Those who does help the financially down.

The Last Day Of February

The last day of February  and Summer in the far south
The sun glowing warm in the blue sky and bush flies buzzing about
And white butterflies seemingly dancing in the warm breeze
That is gently soughing in the eucalypt trees
In the sunlit paddocks by the coastal town
The grass that was green a few weeks ago now golden brown
From many warm and breezy days without rain the landscape looking dry
And no sign of rain in the blue and sunny sky
North in the sub tropics and tropics people in floods have died
That for Nature's mood swings climate change has some part to play cannot be denied
Human created pollution that gives rise to global warming causes weather extremes
Going by climate scientists this is how it seems
It is sunny and dry here in the far south
And in the warm air bush flies are buzzing about.

It Lives In Your Mind

It lives in your mind like a familiar song
Wherever you go to your past with you goes along
Though time on your life keeps on ticking fast
They remain in your memory your friends of the past
Though mental images of them as young people in you stay
You may not recognize them were you to meet them today
Since on the ageing process it's part time does play
Anyone never grows younger in truth one can say
On old streets you oftern did walk up and down
Today you may be a stranger in the far away town
You have forged new friendships and the past it has gone
And only the memories in you linger on
Of when you were young many decades ago
Long before time it did become your foe.

Those Who Have Love In Them

Is this telling you something of which you are aware
Those who have love in them have love with others to share
Love gives rise to compassion and kindness and generosity
It is one of the great gifts bestowed on humanity
Those who have love in them are blessed indeed
And humanity of their sort of more is in need
Those who have love in them perform good deeds every day
And help those in need of helping without the rewards of pay
They never do crave for wealth and renown
And are never among the admired of the town
They have love in them a wonderful thing
As love to those most in need of it they help to bring
In the betterment of humanity a huge part they does play
By sharing their love with others every day.

Had We Learned From The Past

That the World is not in need of aggressive leaders it goes without doubt
That humanity without them would be better without
Since they have not learned anything from wars of past years
They only give rise to death. suffering and tears
In wars past and present so many have died
Their gift of life in a violent way of them denied
Those who declare war on others not of the moral kind
They are badly flawed people of criminal mind
The war that was supposed to end all wars ended a century ago
But that lessons were not learned from it happens to be so
Good people are dying in conflicts every day
Had we learned from the past it would not be this way
But when the narcissistic and ruthless and callous great power does attain
Only death, suffering and tears is humanity's gain.

Though Many With This

You dislike in others what you dislike in you
Wisdom of a sage that happens to be true
Since what we see in others in our own selves we see
Though with old wisdom such as this most would disagree
On like minded people we see our own brighter side
The good things in us that from others we do not hide
Since we are happy when others our praises do sing
For to like to be liked is a natural thing
In our moments of anger and frustration our darker side to others we expose
Few do go through life without making some foes
Even the best of people not without flaws one does suppose
The thorns are prickly on the stem of the rose
What we like and dislike in ourselves in others we see
Though many with this would see fit to disagree.

On Frogs Singing

Once learned the lessons of Nature with us does remain
The tiny frogs always does sing before rain
Though loud in their songs never easy to see
As they hide in cracks in a wall or under bark on a tree
You search for them but where you think the song comes from the frog is not there
The singer a ventriloquist is hiding elsewhere
A key to their survival is to be elusive and shy
Almost impossible to discover though to you they are singing nearby
True frogs are tiny amphibians with ways of their own
And so much about them remains to be known
On their breeding Season they sing night and day
But their songs to their whereabouts never a give away
And in changeable weather they sing before rain
Yet a mystery about them they does retain.

Never Judge

Never judge a person on how they dress for appearance can deceive
What our eyes seem to tell us we should not always believe
Take for example the sculptor perhaps the most talented person in the town
He does not dress or act as a man of artistic renown

He is only ever seen in casual clothes
And he is not always scenting like a rose
No airs and graces about him he may seem and look ordinary
But he is not what others make him out to be

Of wood and stone the sculptor supreme
And by art dealers and experts on art held in high esteem
Yet despite the nice things many of him does say
He is so down to earth in his own humble way

Unlike most famous people of him it can be said
That his fame as an artist has not gone to his head
That one cannot judge a book by the cover as a truism does remain
The meaning of this it's own self does explain.

Stories Of Newsmakers

Stories of newsmakers make news and newspapers sell
Rumor has it that Putin is not mentally well
One reason his huge army is inflicting pain
On the suffering and death of his neighbours in Ukraine

The truth in this story is not for me to say
Putin in online videos and speeches seems mentally okay
Who knows what is going on between the man's ears
He seems happy to be inflicting on his neighbours death, suffering and tears

For bad behaviour of all sorts some will form an excuse
Some people in a position of power their privileges are known to abuse
The reason Putin's sort are never short listed for a peace prize
Is above the narcissistic and callous they cannot rise

It is rumored the reason for Putin's bullying behaviour is long covid related believe this if you may
As for me of the truth on this i just cannot say
Rumors sell papers and make news every day
And are not always truthful it is always this way.
