Nature Is A Great Teacher

Nature is a great teacher in truth one can say
And from her we do learn something new every day
And the more we learn of her the more our wonder of her does grow
When we realize so little of her ways we seem to know

For to view her great beauty we do not have to pay
Her amazing flora and fauna we see every day
She helps Mother Earth for to grow the food for our survival we need
They are the World's greatest and most successful partnership indeed

So much about Nature to us humans unknown
She is one who does have ways of her own
Her wonders are many and her secrets not few
And every day of her we learn something new

The giver and receiver of life who transcends death
At Winter's end she wakes from hibernation and in the warmth of her breath
To Mother Earth greeness and new life does bring
And her birds sing and whistle for to welcome the Spring

Nature is a great teacher from her we learn every day
And her lessons are many in truth one can say
But the more we learn of her the more we realize
That of her we know little this not a surprise.

Since I Have Not Lived In Millstreet

Since i have not lived in Millstreet for many Seasons and from there i live far away
There i may feel a stranger if i returned to there today
Some i knew there in eternal rest now does lay
And some i knew who are still living in Duhallow are showing time's decay
And some did leave Millstreet for places elsewhere
And are growing old in towns and cities in the big World out there
Suppose it is not hard to understand the reason why
That our links to the past keep on weakening as the years go by
But the old fields in view of Clara would look much the same
Many of them i recall by their given name
Since i left Duhallow many Seasons ago
Time that ages everyone has become my foe
The past now just a memory of the far away
But the now is all that does matter and the now is today.

It Is Only The Privileged

It is only the privigeled minority have god on their side
The gap between those who have and those who have not ever keeps on growing wide
Wordlwide there are billions of people living in extreme poverty
In a fair Human World this never would be
The majority of the wealth of the World is owned by the minority
And only in death there is equality
Millions of people are homeless and hungry in the World of today
Even poverty has it's variations in truth one can say
They will never know of Earthly Utopia the poor and downtrod
It is only the wealthy who do have a god
That the Human World is ruled by the very wealthy and privileged few
Is not saying anything in any way that is new
The words of a wise one are worthy of recall
That a fair go for some is not a fair go for all.

Pacific Black Ducks

On lakes and on dams  and every waterway
Whilst out walking birds one does see every day
In town parks lakes near tame and quite a common sight
They allow you get quite close to them before taking to flight
Dark mottled brown the male and female look much the same
Pacific black ducks for them their common name
Some of their time out of water by them spent
And as dabbling ducks shallow lakes and dams they frequent
In high grass in grass nest or reeds near water the female duck lay
Eight to ten pale eggs from sight well hidden away
Wild ducks of town parks or of the countryside
Pacific black ducks in Australia are known far and wide
From water they are never that far away
And people out walking see them every day.

Few Do Grow Wise

That wisdom comes with age a generalization that is based on lies
All people grow older but few do grow wise
Wisdom to it does not have an age
Everyone over time does not become a sage
No fool like an old fool as a truism remain
The meaning in this it's own self does explain
It is true that some people who are young in years
Are far wiser than many old blokes and old dears
That being well educated does not make you wiser is not saying what is new
The well educated are many but the  wise are few
Wisdom is something that cannot be taught
Or cannot be sold or cannot be bought
That wisdom comes with age has it's source in lies
Everyone does grow older but few do grow wise.

A Beautiful Person

The grey in her hair she has dyed the colour of gold
For one in her sixties quite attractive to behold
Three decades ago when her hair was light brown
She was the fairest on her side of the town
That she was admired by many young males then happens to be so
To a few proposals of marriage her answer was no
The only man she ever loved in a work accident died
By ill luck of happiness in love she was denied
She does not have children or may never be any man's partner or wife
And it looks like that she will be single for life
A state registered nurse free of conceit or guile
With the warmth of  kindness in her beautiful smile
For her age quite attractive though time on her beginning to show
She is one who possesses the bright inner glow.

All Racists Are Ignorant People

All racists are ignorant people and ignorance can be bliss
At the damage in their words that they do the point they do miss
Many good and decent people by them mentally destroyed
And some of the victims of their racism have committed suicide

Far too many racist people in the Human World of today
The dark shades of their minds block out enlightenment ray
They are not rare anywhere in Countries Worldwide
All racists are people without a sense of pride

Racists are the instigators of people divide
Far too many good people by them are racially villified
For the lack of trust and harmony among people racists are mostly to blame
On their own race and their Country they only bring shame

Far too many of their sort far too many indeed
Of racists and racism humanity is not in need
For causing division between people they are only known
So much hatred in their words by them is sown.

Big Ed

Of his limitations Big Ed is aware
He says what others say of me cannot say i much care
I do not try to hide my flaws to others they are known
And of them i can say that they are my own

Big Ed loves his two young daughters Kate and Sue and their mother Linda his wife
Of  them he does say they are the heroines of my life
He says if anyone ever harms them of them it will be the end
And Ed in his words is not one to pretend

Despite his tough looking exterior at heart he is kind
And to help those in need of helping he is always willingly inclined
To help others he often goes out of his way
And he performs a good deed or two every day

A giant of a man broad shouldered and tall
Standing beside him most men do seem small
And quite self effacing in his own honest way
I do own my flaws Big Ed of himself say.

In Yangery Today

The sun behind grey clouds is hidden away
But the birds they are singing in Yangery today
In a place named after a tribe who lived there long ago
Who were displaced and became extinct history tell us so
In the Yangery they lived in no sheep, horse or cow
Quite a different Yangery to what it is now
No tractors ploughing for crops no cars and trucks noising up and down
On the busy roadway between Warrnambool and Koroit Town
Many changes have come to Yangery in two centuries
To make way for introduced ruminants and intense crop growing much removal of trees
The arrival of colonizers to Yangery change with them did bring
But this to the detriment of the local indigenous tribe and this is such a sad thing
No didgeridoos heard in Yangery today
That time with it brings changes does seem true to say.

Ask One Other Than Me

Though self professed poets in their numbers do grow
Who is or is not a poet cannot say i would know
Even experts on poets and poetry on this disagree
Each to their own opinion is how it seems to be
In twenty first century poetry blank verse is the in thing
And the praises of non rhyming poets the literary critics do sing
Rhyme it was popular up to four decades ago
But that time brings with it changes happens to be so
Even though there are rhymers in every town
Most of them do not even know of local literary renown
Novelists and journalists far more popular than poets in the literary World of today
Though having that said it was not always this way
And no shortage of self professed poets in the World is how it seems to be
On who is or is not a poet ask one other than me.

It Is In His Breed

Since the anger in him he cannot keep at bay
Trouble he manages to find every day
For pub brawling he has spent some time in jail
And for physical assault at present he is awaiting trial and out on bail
For his aggressive Nature the price he does pay
When not on the beer he behaves quite okay
But in the pub with a few beers in on a Saturday night
It does not take much to inspire him to fight
In brawls he has lost teeth had a broken jaw and a broken nose
From life some are slow to learn lessons one suppose
In his mid twenties in his physical prime
It does seem he is due for some more jail time
Like his dad a brawler it is in his breed
Of some anger management he is in need.

Australian Little Ravens

Known as little ravens though some call them pale eyed crow
And my wonder of them only does seem to grow
When calling the long feathers on their necks stick out
And of their intelligence they never leave one in doubt

Of most other creatures in thinking they seem well ahead
In the shallows of the Botanic Park lake in Warrnambool i see them dipping hard stale bread
For to soften to eat i could scarce believe my eyes
In Nature every day always some new surprise

In south eastern Australia quite a common sight
If a human approach them they quickly take to flight
Smaller than Australian ravens with a much sharper call
Of the birds of Australia perhaps the cleverest of all

Similar in appearance to ravens Worldwide in feathers glossy and black
When seen in the sunlight one realizes in beaauty they do not lack
Omnivirous in their diet not choosy what they do eat
They eat insects and worms and i have seen them open rubbish bins for thrown out chips, fruit, bread and scraps of meat

In nest of sticks lined with bark, hair or wool high on branch of tree
The female lay green brown dotted eggs of six, five, four or three
They are Nature's survivors of them one can say
These birds i do happen to see every day.

So Many Narcissistic Political Leaders

So many narcissistic political leaders in the World of today
Though it can be said it was always this way
They say they love their Country and their own praises sing
And in truth love of self and power in life is their most important thing
It is not saying any thing in any way that is new
That good political leaders in the World are few
Nationalistic and patriotic speeches politicians  know all too well
To the patriotic voters are not hard to sell
Their false public love of Country as has often been said before
Has it's source in self interest and little else more
About their political opponents they never have kind things to say
Negativity for politicians always seems to pay
Most politicians are sadly lacking in ruth
And they are quite expert at bending the truth.

Be Kind To Your Friends

Be kind to your friends for your friends are so few
This in any way is not anything new
In your time of need to you they remained true
And pay to them the respect that is their due
You are not short of acquaintances in the town
But your friends stood by you when you were financially down
In your time of need they stood by you
And did not forsake you as acquaintances do
Be kind to your friends since they are few indeed
They did stand by you in your times of most need
If they are in financial difficulties one day
For their kindness to you them you can repay
Be kind to your friends they have been kind to you
And pay to them the respect that they are due.

Falseness As A Flaw

Most of us humans are false not excluding me
And of our own falseness death will set us free
It is only the foolhardy who speak their mind
And these are the people looked on as unkind
That the ego swells on praise we come to realize
And those who criticize us we only despise
Though their comments on us in them may have some truth
We brand them as people who are lacking in ruth
To others the nice person face we do like to show
Though this does not mean you have the bright inner glow
If you wish to know me come and live with me as the wise one did say
A truism that retains it's relevance today
Suppose it is a downside of natural law
That most of us humans have in us falseness as a flaw.

On The First Of September

In a mostly blue sky the sun it is shining and the nesting birds sing
On the first of September and the first day of the calendar southern Spring
Nature's birds singing on the sunlit bushes and trees
And white butterflies dancing in the gentle breeze
Spring she arrived in the south at midnight
When the magpies were warbling in the moonlight
Silently without fanfare or pomp for her three months stay
And Nature to welcome her arrival has given us this beautiful day
The last breath of Winter may not yet be dead
But one can expect much warmer weaather in the days ahead
The countryside green by the old country town
But a few months of dry and warm weather may leave it looking brown
The Winter born lambs around their grazing mothers play
On the first of September such a beautiful day.

An August Evening In Illowa

An August evening in Illowa between Koroit and Warrnambool
The weather sunless and calm and on the side of cool
But on the last day of August the nesting birds sing
Tomorrow the first of September is the start of the calendar Spring
Soon the weather temperature will rise by many degrees
And there will be pink blossoms on the fruit bearing trees
Wildflowers in bloom and white butterflies in numbers to be seen
And after the recent August rain the paddocks looking green
In the coastal Moyne Shire such a nice time of year
The voices of Nature's creatures so pleasant to hear
Young lambs and calves in the paddocks around their mothers play
Though the sun not at it's warmest and the sky often grey
In Illowa the weather is cool on Winter's last day
And the calendar Spring is only hours away.

On Henry Lawson's "The Shame Of Going Back"

Henry Lawson's Memorable poem 'The Shame Of Going Back' as relevant as it was to then to today does remain
A poem that you once read that you will read again
a poem written by one who himself had been in Earthly Hell
Who of life's tougher side had many stories to tell

Going back to your hometown among the people you know
Without any money for your time away and your travels to show
Mentally the hardest thing in life that you have had to do
For your lack of money as a person they think less of you

Though feeling a loser and financially down
It was homesickness brought you back to your hometown
Much poorer now than before you did migrate
To be of the materially successful in life not your fate

When you cannot afford to go for a beer in your favourite local pub
And cannot pay for a membership of the town's football club
And friends of the past you would rather not meet
Hard to walk with your head held high on the street

Since of the influence of money they know you do lack
Your former friends feel no dessire to welcome you back
They have climbed further than you on the ladder of material success
And in your lack of money them you do not impress

Though long deceased Henry Lawson in Australia remains a great literary name
Of going home with empty pockets he knew of the shame
At least in his writing to himself he was true
He was a great poet and story teller for to give him his due.

Self Promotion Nowadays

Self promotion nowadays has become an in thing
And many their own praises do love to sing
But self praise is no praise as the wise one did say
Though many do not seem to see it in this way
So many of their worth in public do boast
And do like proposing to themselves a toast
In the twenty first century people Worldwide
In online boasting of their achievements do take great pride
On saying that the unassuming and humble are in the few
Is not saying anything that is in any way that is new
A healthy sense of self love is good for the mind
And those who possess it are genuinely caring and kind
But self love in the extreme one comes to realize
In an over-inflated ego to narcissism gives rise.

Lucky Indeed

Lucky indeed are they who believe
That those who do give can expect to receive
To their higher selves they try to live as true
And credit for this it is only their due
But those who receive and in returm nothing give
For the needs of the self only do live
Those into materialism they may well impress
And be admired for their material success
But since of their own needs they only seem aware
Like all of their sort who are unwilling to share
From their higher selves is obviously clear
On how they choose to live are not anywhere that is near
The people who give to receive kindness in others inspire
And as people are easy for to admire.

A Pearl Of Wisdom

A pearl of wisdom as most would agree
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder is how it seems to be
If you look for beauty then beauty you will see
It is all around you and it is all around me
But among the materialistic no lacking in spiritual poverty
To them a tree is just that a tree
The beauty in Nature they cannot admire
It is money and the power that goes with it they only desire
Humanity is comprised of all sorts one suppose
What is a weed to one to another is a rose
Those into materialism in a big way
Ignore the beauty around them every day
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder as a truism remain
The meaning in this it's own self does explain.

It Would Be

It would be a beautiful Human World to live in
Where many would not have to lose for a few for to win
Where people Worldwide as equals did meet
And for this thing known as success none had to compete
A World without a pauper or a millionaire
Where people with each other did willingly share
And where anyone would not have to serve prison time
An egalatarian Human World would give rise to a World free of crime
I long for a Human World where love would reign supreme
Where none would have to live with low self esteem
Due to a lack of material success
In love only the key to happiness
It would be a wonderful World to live in
Where none had to lose for others to win.

Dr Pat O' Callaghan

Duhallow's greatest sportsperson as many do say
The legend of Derrygallon's  Dr Pat O' Callaghan is living today
At Los Angeles and Amsterdam the winner of Olympic hammer gold
The story of his amazing achievements will always be told
In 1991 in Clonmel as an octogenarian he breathed his last
In  sports he will always be spoken of  when people recall greats of the past
Arguably Ireland's greatest Olympian he beat the World's best
And was never found to be wanting when put to the test
In his prime Pat O'Callaghan never knew of deafeat
Worldwide in hammer throwing then the one to beat
But to the best of them time does become the foe
Though Memories of  Pat O' Callaghan remain from the long ago
Arguably Ireland's greatest Olympian of his time as a hammer thrower the World's best
He was never found to be wanting when put to the test.

That Truth Can Be Stranger Than Fiction

He had grown tired of being hungry and homeless and sleeping rough
In his late teens for many years life had been tougher than tough
And with little hope for better times for him on the way
On his life he had decided for to call it a day

In the park a rope tied top a low branch of a tree
Of his miserable existence would set him free
Since only more hardship of him lay ahead
He had resolved to himself he would be better off dead

Since on life he was one who had given up on hope
It looked like his existence for him would end at the end of a rope
A young man not yet in his physical prime
With rope in a plastic shopping bag he walked to the park in what he thought was to be his last time

It is true about life at times it can be strange
And for the better or the worst in a moment can change
Smoke and flames were billowing from a house nearby
And on the street by her home he saw and heard a traumatized young woman for help cry

My baby is in there please save her to him she did plead
And of any more encouragement he was not in need
He raced into the house in an act that was death defying
Into the smoke filled room where the baby was crying

In a moment of heroism that beggars belief
He handed the child to her overjoyed mother who wept tears of relief
On his walk to what was to be his death a child's life he did save
Where raw courage was needed he proved himself to be truly brave

There is truth in the saying fortune favours the brave
On his way to what was to be his own death a child's life he did save
He is a happily married father of a baby boy today
That truth can be stranger than fiction it does seem this way.

Where Everyone Loves Everyone

Where everyone loves everyone nice to dream of such a place
Where none would be looked on as inferior due to nationality, creed or race
And hatred is a stranger where love does abound
And where any trace of racism or class distinction is nowhere to be found
No royals and celebrities and no money billionaire
And where everyone is generous and with everyone else does share
And none made to feel inferior or lack in self esteem
It would be a beautiful place to live in where love does reign supreme
Where everyone knows everyone all would know of equal fame
And everyone would be equal and treated as the same
For success with each other people would not compete
And harmony the winner where peace and love does meet
Where everyone loves everyone to live in would be a heavenly place
And there would be equality between every culture, creed and race.

Love Works In This Way

An attractive young woman lovely to behold
In the prime of her life twenty five years old
With shoulder length hair wavy and brown
One of the most attractive looking women on her side of the town

The man who loves her she will not be his wife
For him she does not have any plans in her life
You are just a friend to him she does say
And only as a platonic friend with you i wish to stay

The man that she loves by another has been won
He lives with his partner and their year old son
The feelings of love often come with regret
And in life what you need most you do not always get

She hopes for to travel in the big World out there
And on her travels she may again meet love somewhere
With beautiful eyes as dark blue as a ripened sloe
Her beauty will go with her to wherever she go

Proposed to by the man who does love her but in her life for him she does not have a plan
And the one she does love to her is not an available man
You win some and lose some love works in this way
And so too does life in truth one can say.

It is Not

It is not your material gains or the amount of money you possess
Though to many such achievements are ultimate success
Or the trophies and medals and prizes you win
That helps to make the Human World a better World to live in
Those who believe the most successful of people achieve for the i
Are those in truth who believe their own lie
It is a truism from a long bygone day
That those who only live for the self from the higher self furthest away
It is not what you do for the self but what for others you do
That as a person says more about you
Than the one who only know how to receive
Is truthful in it's meaning and is not hard to believe
Though they are never the heroines or heroes of any town
Those who give much of their time in helping the financially down.

House Sparrows

In south eastern Australia small birds you see in your backyard every day
In feathers of mottled brown, chestnut, dark and grey
Whose ancestors were introduced from Lands far away
Near human buildings they seem happy to stay

In many Countries of the World house sparrows are well known
Cheeky little chirpers with ways of their own
In straggly nest lined with feathers of dried grass or hay
In shed rafters or tree four to six white eggs the female bird lay

House sparrows are chirpers they chirp all through the year
On garden hedges them one often see and hear
Though some of them fall victims of cats and birds of prey
They are Nature's survivors of them one can say

Beauty as such they do not have to display
But they are in south eastern Australia to stay
Of  humans they never do seem that shy
They allow you get close to them before they fly

Once seen and once heard you never again get them wrong
House sparrows are chirpers they do not have a song
Small birds that have been introduced in Countries Worldwide
Near human buildings they like to reside.

Learning Is For A Lifetime

Learning is for a lifetime despite what some does say
And from life we do learn something new every day
And the more we do learn the more we realize
That we are not as knowledgeable as we think we are or as wise
Knowledge on it does not have a time span
On the day you were born for you it began
And for you it will end on the day you will die
This is a fact of our existence and fact never lie
Words of a long deceased sage are not hard to believe
That those whose minds are closed to learning knowledge will not receive
Those who think they know everything to learn have nothing new
And will never become of the enlightened few
That we never stop learning as a truism remain
The meaning in this it's own self does explain.

Many Claim

Many claim that those who do not believe on an afterlife for the soul or the existence of god have got it all wrong
But religious belief or lack of it is a personal thing and to every individual ought to belong
In many religions for any of it's members to question it's authority by church leaders not seen as okay
To them there is only one god the god to whom they do pray
Very serious crimes over god are committed every day
By religious fundamentalists that Moses fifth commandment ignore or refuse to obey
In bombings and shootings and knife attacks by religious fundamentalists people are dying every day
That their only sin was to be in the wrong place at the wrong time with their lives they did pay
Those who do not have a religion or do not believe in the existence of a god by many of the religious majority may be looked on as strange
But in a free thinking and a secular World they are the instigators of change
Which allows every individual in a peaceable manner to think in their own way
And decide if she or he needs a god for to kneel to for to pray
Many religious people believe those who do not believe in god lack in the inner glow
And of the opinions of free thinking people any toleration refuse to show.

Whether You Are

Whether you are a wealthy celebrity and know of great fame
Or one with few friends who is poor from worn shoes walking lame
The one who is known as life's Reaper by Name
The poor and the wealthy does treat as the same
The one who some night, morning, evening or day
With the scythe of death swinging will come reaping your way
And though you are wealthy and famous and a known billionaire
If your are ripe for reaping life's reaper your life will not spare
To the scythe that claims all lives you too will fall
And your fame and your wealth will not matter at all
At least the reaper of lives is an egalatarian and does not differentiate
Between the lives of those seen as unimportant and those lauded as great
Eventually some evening, night, morning or day
The one with the scythe of death will come reaping your way.

Though I Used To Live Near There

Though i used to live near there when my hair was dark brown
It has been many years since i see Millstreet Town
Or watched the grey fog envelope Clara's Hill
Or hear the Babble of the Claramore Rill

With a tongue never silent by night or by day
In Claraghatlea fields slowly winding it's way
To the bigger rivers to the Atlantic shore
In a distinctive voice that is forever more

Though my friends in Millstreet i have not seen for years
For the what used to be i have shed my last tears
Today i may not recognize them or they may not recognize me
Since it has been many years since them i last see

Fond memories are all that with me now remain
Of faces and places i will not see again
Though i still think of them as my friends of the past
Memories of what was with us only last

Like every other migrant memories of the past i retain
And that good memories can be a source of joy it's own self does explain
And the past just a memory of the far away
But the now is what matters and the now is today

So Why Should I Care

I never harm anyone i can say in honesty
So why should i care what others say of me
The judgmental criticize people who never harm them every day
Their tongues ever wag in a negative way

I have been told as a rhymer i am not good enough
That my rhymes to read seem rather slipshod and rough
But with rhyming words i will continue to play
Despite what the opinionated of me do say

I write for enjoyment not for money or literary renown
And the rhymes that come to me in notebook i write them down
And email them to an online literary site
For anyone rhymes are so easy to write

We all have our hobbies in life one suppose
And one person's weed to another a rose
In literature there are novelists, playwrights and poets and rhymers as well
And those who do enjoy writing doggerel

Of self doubt in my mind i planted the seed
And of praise or criticism i do not feel in need
I just live in my own way and do my own thing
And writing of rhyme some joy to me does bring

And despite what the judgmental of me do say
My hobby of rhyming i will not give away
I hope to be doing it on the day i do die
If i did tell you differently it would be a lie.

Company C E O's

Company C E O's are paid millions in money to terminate employees and save their companies billions every year, That they grow very wealthy out of making people poorer is quite obviously clear, Yet these are the people many look up to and admire, For the hardship they create in retrenched workers a better Human World for many to live in they do not inspire, It is not saying anything about them that is in any way that is new, That they only make life better for the already privileged few, Because of them many workers grow poorer which is a sad thing to say, In a Human World where the gap between the wealthy and the poor is widening by the day, The wealthy minority the gullible human masses do celebrate, But nothing to admire in those to grow wealthier poverty do create, Yes there should not be anything to look up to in people who create so much poverty, In a Human World where there is already far too much of inequality, Of big company C E O's nice things one ought not to say, In a World where the poor are growing poorer by the day.

No Other Gift To Compare

It is some thing that most people of are aware
With life there is no other gift to compare
Forget about dying and your end of life plan
Just live for as long as you possibly can
Live for of a life for your soul after bodily death there may never be
Though with this assumption many may disagree
For billions of people Worldwide believe in a god's world in the sky
Where good souls post bodily death with wings to does fly
But most people who believe in a heaven and the praises of their god do sing
Must harbour some doubt that life after death is not a certain thing
For they too like most others too live in fear of death
And will fight to the end for life's last living breath
Yes life is the greatest gift any human does possess
Far greater than any other form of success.

Life Is His Teacher

A wise person to one to another is a fool
I know a man whose education ended in primary school
One who does learn something new every day
Life is his teacher of him one can say
Many well educated people one does come to realize
Lacking in general knowledge and in some ways not wise
Though due to their education on the ladder of success they have climbed far
Many of them are not as knowledgeable or as wise as they think that they are
You may have a professional career with a uni degree
And be admired by many and a success in ways materially
But in general knowledge and wisdom you may have some way to go
This is only saying what happens to be so
I know this old bloke his receding hair grey
Though not well educated he learns from life every day.

We Are Only Our Lives Experiences

We are only our lives experiences as has been told
Wisdom passed down from the days of old
Which does have some truth in it one has to say
And that does have some relevance in it today
Though many rise above their bad experiences of the past
Memories of what was a lifetime does last
Tied to your past in your memory
This is how it is and how with you it will be
I know a wise woman she is eighty three
One who is a source of knowledge to me
From the past we can only learn she does say
And at midnight the past it will be today
That we are our life's experiences well may be so
Wisdom that has it's source in the long ago.

Have Got It All Wrong

Those who believe that the bond of love between a human mother and her offspring is strong
Know little of how natural love works and have got it all wrong
When a farmer from their cows take their calves away
For their missing young they grieve and call out for many a night and day
Cows bellowing for their young taken from them such a sad thing to hear
That they are in shock and grief is obviously clear
The bond of natural love is in creatures from the great to the small
Of all forms of love it is the strongest of all
Though many with this may well disagree
Each to their own is how it seems to be
Natural love to humans alone does not belong
Those who will tell you differently have got it all wrong
The cow for her missing calf bellows night and day
Though this is not love some are silly enough for to say.

The Man Who Laughs At Life

He never seems in a bad mood the man who laughs at life
And he loves his children and he loves his wife
Joy it is in his home for to stay
And where joy is there is laughter every day
Though the boss he works for top wage to him does not pay
Of his stingy employer bad things he never say
He says i can pay my bills and my wife and children feeling happy and well
And of life i have only good stories to tell
When you ask him why he always seems happy he answers do i need to explain
With luck on my side i ought not to complain
There are billions of people in the World living in extreme poverty
In life they are doing it far tougher than me
One yet to be seen sad and mentally down
The happiest person on his side of the town.

The Poet Who Died Young

In years from now his poems will be read and recited and his songs will be sung
And he will be spoken of as the poet who died young
Last year at his funeral service his family and friends in tears
The shock and grief at his sudden passing will be with them for years

At his funeral service nice things of him were said
And prayers for him offered and his eulogy read
By a fellow poet in life his best literary friend
Who had to choke back his tears at the eulogy's end

His elder brother and sister looking tearful and sad
And tears in the eyes of his mum and his dad
And his twenty years old girlfriend her head in grief bowed
In the congregation could be heard sobbing loud

To those who loved him little consolation that his life achievements were great
And that in his twenty one years great beauty he did create
Though in years from now his achievements to them may be a sense of pride
He did not leave it to life's Reaper his end to decide

One does have to feel for his mum and his dad
In what is the saddest day in life they have had
To find their youngest son dead in the garage dangling from a rope
In a shock any father or mother would find it with hard to cope

From all near and dear to him the darkness in his mind he managed to hide
And the sad news of his passing did travel far and wide
In years from now his poems will be read and recited and his songs will be sung
But this will not bring back to life the poet who died young.

Politicians In Their Words

Politicians in their words to their political opponents respect seldom pay
To be nice to their parliamentary opposition it is not their way
And since their opinions on their opponents are biased more often than not it does seem
It is not surprising that politicians by many are not held in high esteem
To a politician's criticism of a political opponent one should not pay any heed
Their sort of criticism to seek political advantage seems rather negative indeed
Politicians are criticizing each other every day
These are just part of the mind games with each other they do play
Most politicians are lacking in ruth
And they seek political advantage in bending the truth
Politicians in their words are known to deceive
And what they say of theior political opponents one ought not believe
To be nice to your political opponents in politics does not pay
And it is so hard to believe anything a politician of their political opponents does say.

New Holland Honeyeaters

Small honeyeaters in their range one does see every day
Attractive looking birds in their feathers of black, gold and grey
Of human kind they do not seem at all shy
New holland honeyeaters is the name they are known by
In cup shaped nest of bark and dry grass in prickly bush or small tree
The female lay pink brown dotted eggs of two or three.
With slight hook on their long thin bills for extracting nectar they also eat bees and flies
In defense of their territories they are quite aggressive for their size
In gardens of blossoming plants and parks in numbers they abound
And in their chattering calls they warn other birds when predators are around
Among Australia's many species of honeyeaters among the better known
Quite cheeky little birds with ways of their own
Quite aggressive for their size in defense of their territory
In gardens and parks them one often does see.

Everyone Has A Story

From the wealthy and famous to the never do well
Everyone has a story of their life to tell
Though only the stories of the celebrated published to be sold
In this respect things have not changed since the days of old
So many good people who from life have passed away
Sadly are not among the well remembered of today
To live as good people not seen as a worthy lifetime achievement at all
And their names never seen on a memorial wall
As it always was today it is the same
It is only the wealthy and celebrities who do know of fame
Though many of them not good people in truth one can say
Their names in the media news every day
Whilst far more compassionate and kinder people than they are of recognition lose out
That it is a World for celebrities does go without doubt.

I May Never Again

Ageing far south of Hibernia's shore
I may never again climb on high Claramore
And enjoy the scenery of the green countryside
Of Duhallow and Sliabh Luachra stretching far and wide

I may never again walk to where the waterways do meet
In the old rushy fields near the Town of Millstreet
Such wonderful memories i have to retain
Of beauty i may never look on again

In claraghatlea the babbling tongue of the Claramore rill
With it's source in the high country by Clara's hill
At the early stages of it's journey to the sea far away
Flowing on to the river by night and by day

It was my yearn for travel that brought me far south
Of the fields of the badger and waterways of the brown trout
Of where i first grew to love Nature when i was a boy
And learning of her ways today i enjoy

In this place of koala, echidna and wallaby and grey kangaroo
And long billed corella and yellow tailed black cockatoo
Of Nature i am learning new things every day
We never stop learning in truth one can say

I may never again walk in Millstreet Town
Near where i used to live when my hair was dark brown
Where i was known to many in now what seems long ago
Before time that ages had become my foe

I may never again hear the chaffinches sing
In the leafy groves of Duhallow in the prime of the Spring
And only the memories with me remain
Of faces and places i may not see again.

The Past Only Lives Now

Even more so than the words of a memorable song
Wherever you go to your past with you goes along
Of the what used to be for you the mental images remain
Only in memory we can go to the past again
The now is what matters and the past it has gone
And of your happy and sad days only memories live on
We learn from the past as the wise one does say
But only the now does matter and the now is today
For our mistakes in the past some price we did pay
We learn as we live life works in this way
Time for us does not wait it keeps ticking fast
And at midnight today will be of the past
You retain mental images for you of the what used to be
And the past only lives now in your memory.

Where Only The Winners

Where only the winners are not counted out
Is this what living in the Human World is all about
Where people with each other compete for some form of success
And only those deemed to be successful the admiring majority impress
A Human World where those with the most money are those who only count
And to be a good loser to nothing does amount
The winners in everything the heroines and heroes in every town
And all of the others are strangers to renown
One can understand why so many people to be successful harbour a great desire
Since only the winners the majority of people admire
Elite sports people and entertainment celebrities and very wealthy people in the news every day
In a Human World where everyone are equal it would not be this way
Where only the winners are not counted out
Is this what living in the Human World is all about?

Large Predatory Sharks

Bull sharks, great white sharks and tiger sharks are know to be human eating fish
And those who swim in waters they frequent must have a secret death wish
Those lucky enough to survive a shark attack must live with horrific injuries and have learned too late
That to swim in their waters is tempting fate
The praises of large predatory sharks by few ever sung
Giant fish of the ocean that give birth to live young
Those who swim in waters where sharks visit may be lacking in fear
But that they are rather foolish seems obviously clear
For people who swim or surf on deep saltwater the price can be huge to pay
Worldwide people are victims of sharks every day
Many who have survived shark attacks feel they would be better off dead
Since years of painful recovery of them lay ahead
Large predatory sharks hunt big fish and seals for to eat
And human flesh to them is just another form of meat.

Everyone Needs A Dream

Everyone needs a dream in life for to pursue
Just something that only happens for to be true
It is something that does nurture a sense of hope
In those in life who are struggling to cope
In those without a dream hope is all but dead
They do not look forward to the challenges in their lives of them ahead
Those doing it tough on their side of the town
Can be suicidal in their thoughts when they are feeling down
People's dreams give them hope when times on them are tough
In their moments of self doubt when they feel they are not good enough
For to compete with others in the competitive World we live in
Where those deemed to be losers respect cannot hope to win
Everyone needs a dream in life it does seem
If only for their own sense of self esteem.

Joe

Not one of the bright boys of the primary school
The nickname given to him was Joe the Fool
By the judgmental who know him on his side of the town
The cruel find their pleasure on verbally putting others down
But Joe for himself in life has done okay
A self employed carpenter by trade he does earn a good pay
A likeable fellow well loved and well known
Over time his friends in numbers have grown
With two attractive teenage daughters and their mother Ann his beautiful devoted to him wife
He is one for himself who has done well in life
With a comfortable home to live in to claim for his own
On his kindness to others Karma's good seed he has sown
Known by his nickname by some today
Though this does not bother him in any way.

Like The Poor And Downtrodden

Like the poor and downtrodden it is true to say
For the wealthy celebrity there will be a last day
The Reaper of Lives treats all as the same
And does not ignore those of great wealth and fame
Every night and day the one who claims all lives claims lives Worldwide
From death for the wealthy and famous there is nowhere to hide
With their money they can bribe the lawmakers but they cannot bribe death
The one who eventually from everyone claims the life's breath
We are all born as mortals and mortals do die
Those who do tell you differently believe their own lie
But the Reaper of all lives to the egalatarian spirit remains true
And for this respect and credit is due
For the wealthy and famous there too will be an end
Since the Reaper of lives does treat none as a friend.

An Obsessive Thing

How come most politicians to power desperately cling
As if in life this is the only thing
Power over people is the dictator's idea of ultimate success
Where their military any voices of dissent suppress
In Countries governed by dictatorial leaders any criticism of the leaders in public is banned
And from their citizens ultimate respect the autocrats do demand
Anyone who dare to publicly speak against the regime and it leaders will be murdered or spend a long term in jail
Fear of reprisals among the disasatissfied to bind them to silence never seems to fail
Even democratically elected political leaders to cling to power lie
The god in public they do not worship is their god of the i
Power for the love of it is an addiction among the power obsessed
And for to cling to it they try their very best
Power to most politicians self satisfaction does bring
In the minds of the egotistical it is an obsessive thing.

Memories Are All I Have Left

Memories are all i have left to enjoy
Of when i was a primary school-going boy
And my love of Nature was beginning to grow
In the fields of the rook and the silver backed crow
But going back the years this now seems long ago
And time that ages everyone has become my foe
But i feel lucky to have the greatest gift anyone does possess
A greater gift by far than any form of success
That i will lose on the day i will die
Life is our greatest gift is not a lie
Some i went to school with among the deceased does lay
And the others like me are showing time's decay
But for as long as i live fond memories with me will stay
Of the place where i first looked on the lamp of day.

Sandra And Fred

Sandra says her dog Fred is her truest friend
Since dogs they are honest and loyal and not known to pretend
And this is only for to give them their due
She knows that Fred's love for her it is true

Sandra in her late sixties married twice to Billy and Ben
Says she is one who has had it with men
Both of them were unfaithful her marriage ended for her in tears
With unfaitful men she regrets she had spent too many years

Vowing she will never again be any man's wife
Sandra at present happy in her life
A recently retired nurse she is ageing with grace
With silver grey hair and without makeup on her beautiful face

Sandra a one time mother to her first husband Billy she gave birth to James her son
But he died in a motor car accident at twenty one
A huge cross of grief to be given to bear
But you never hear her say that life is unfair

Her brown cocker spaniel Fred a beautiful dog to behold
At his physical prime just a three year old
He sleeps on the rug every night on the floor by her bed
She says she feels blessed to have a friend like Fred

Happy to have her dog Fred as a friend
One who will stay true to her until the end
For being kind to him in love her he repay
Far more loving and loyal than humans of dogs one can say.

The Ex Shearer

The years of physical hard work on him does show
A work strained back has him walking stiff and slow
In his late sixties he will not shear sheep again
Only memories of his shearing days with him now remain
Of his better years when he travelled far and wide
On the highways and the byways of the outback countryside
For him in his working lifetime never an easy pay
He often did shear two hundred head a day
Back in the days when his hair was light brown
He enjoyed his weekends in the pubs of many a country town
He does not have children or never had a long term partner or wife
Women they came to and went from his life
On a retirement pension he lives on his own
And of better years in his life he surely has known.

Regent Honeyeaters

Within their range in south eastern Australia birds once plentiful to view
But where there were many there now is so few
Regent honeyeaters quite beautiful birds of mostly dark, gold and grey
Are among the endangered in Australia today
Climate Change, bush fires and destruction of their habitat reasons they have become rare
Bird watchers of their declining numbers are well aware
Extinction from their kind may not be far away
And this indeed does seem a sad thing to say
In cup nest of bark and grass on fork of branch of tree
The female lay pink brown dotted eggs of two or three
Distinctive in their appearance and their metallic clinking song
Among the rare fauna of Australia they now do belong
On the brink of extinction it is obviously clear
Since their numbers are on the decrease every year.

An August Day In The Moyne Shire

The sky of late August overcast and grey
And a freshening breeze tells of showers on the way
Though the nesting birds chirp and sing on the bushes and trees
On a weather temperature high for the day of a cool fourteen degrees
Late Winter in the Moyne Shire with Spring ever near
With sporadic spells of sunshine and the sky seldom clear
But the countryside looking quite healthy and green
And the first of the early wildflowers in the paddocks are to be seen
In the coastal Moyne Shire in August close to the City of Warrnambool
The weather quite often can be showery and cool
But the days they are warming if only slight
And compared to June and July more hours of sunlight
In the coastal Moyne Shire it is an overcast day
And It does seem that more showers are on the way.

An Aged Migrant

For seventy years of her life she has lived in this Country
Where with her now deceased husband she raised her family
In June nineteen fifty they arrived from Italy
For one of her age she retains a great memory

A beautiful person in her own gentle way
Ageing with grace her hair is silver grey
To her children a good mother and to her husband a good wife
She says in him she found the soul mate of her life

Her husband he passed from life a decade ago
And time that ages everyone has become her foe
In her two bedroom red brick unit she lives on her own
And to all in the neighbourhood she is well loved and known

Though she speaks english well her accent she does retain
Something until death that with her will remain
For one in her ninetieth year of life she looks quite okay
And she walks in the park for half of an hour every day.

Do Not Believe Those

Do not believe those who tell you the good only die young
Or old singers are forgotten when their last songs they have sung
Though many an old saying as a truism remain
Not all of them stand the test of scrutiny without needing to explain

Do not believe those who tell you wisdom only belong to the old
Or that a woman cannot be beautiful if she is not attractive to behold
Wisdom and beauty have many sides to them as far as i know
And only the most beautiful have the inner glow

Do not believe those who tell you that there is a god in a heaven in the sky
Though their right to what they believe in of them none ought to deny
There is no proof that they have it right or that they have it wrong
Though to each individual their own truth belong

You can believe those who tell you we are born to die
This is a mere fact of our existence and fact never lie
But no proof of a life for the soul post bodily death
Or if death is forever when we draw our last breath

Some will tell you that from life our fair dues we receive
But then we only believe what we want to believe
And what is true to you may not be so to me
Since we all look at life in our ways differently.

Some Beautiful People

The Human World is comprised of all sorts as the wise one does say
But some beautiful people i meet every day
People who of are a privilege to know
Since they do possess the bright inner glow
People in their ways who are compassionate and kind
In the helping of those in need of helping always willingly inclined
For a better life for those doing it tough they plant the good seed
And of more of their sort the Human World is in need
Of good people in the news we seldom read of or hear
They are not newsworthy it does appear
Broadcasting news on negative people make profitable news headlines it does seem
People who do lower humanity's esteem
But as for me i feel rather blessed in a way
In some of the kind and compassionate people i meet every day.

To Nature Should Only Belong

From the fields of the badger and waterways of the brown trout
In this southern place in this Land of the south
The difference between the native fauna is great
But Nature everywhere her own beauty create
From place to place the scenery changes in varying degrees
In the home of flora such as acacia and pittosporum and eucalypt trees
And fauna such as kangaroos and koalas and wallabies
And species of parrots, emus and honeyeaters not seen anywhere
In other Countries in the World out there
People introduce flora and fauna from Lands elsewhere to places in Countries Worldwide
But they should leave it to Nature the correct natural flora and fauna for each Country to decide
Human beings in their judgments sometimes not very discreet
Since often the introduced plants, animals and birds the native species outcompete
The natural country for flora and fauna to live in to decide to Nature should only belong
Since the introduction of some species by humans has gone terribly wrong.

I Have Had A Good Innings

I have had a good innings in truth i can say
And if COVID or something similar does claim me it will be okay
I have lived for more than seven decades without any suffering or pain
And i am one without a reason to complain
I am one of those without an end of life plan
And of my existence in time near the end of my span
Seven decades and near four years since my life's journey began
In ten years from now if living i will be an old man
On looking back the years time does seem to go fast
And all that we have are memories of the past
My best years in life in the forever gone
And for as long as i can do i hope to live on
For life is the greatest gift anyone does possess
Far greater than any other form of success.

In Nature

In Nature there is beauty to see every day
A beauty to view for you do not have to pay
And every day of her we learn something new
Her lessons are many and her wonders not few
And the more we learn of Nature the more we come to realize
That of her we know little this not a surprise
Nature is amazing she has magical powers
She helps Mother Earth to grow beautiful flowers
As partners in creation they surely are great
Such natural beauty together they do create
Of Nature so much there remains to be known
One can say of her she has ways of her own
Of her we do learn something new every day
That we never stop learning it does seem this way.

In Late Fall In Duhallow

The morning is chilly and calm and the sky is grey
And behind the clouds the sun hidden away
And Finnow bank high in flood waters of brown
In the rushy fields babbling close to Millstreet Town

In late Fall in Duhallow a cold and wet time of year
The song of the blackbird one never does hear
The cattle in farm sheds living on silage and hay
With Winter so near and Spring far away

In the subsiding flood in the grey of the dawn
The salmon upcurrent are swimming to spawn
For some of them a violent end it is near
Doomed to be victims of the poachers gaff or spear

The weather often chilly and wet not cold enough to snow
And Blackwater in flood on towards Mallow does flow
And cawing on a leafless beech tree a silver backed crow
It's kind not popular among sheep farmers since of their preying ways they do know

The sky overcast and the morning is cold
In late Fall in Duhallow the old year getting old
And the Boggeraghs are hidden in the fogs of grey
And the dawning of Winter is not far away.

Everyone Has A Story

Though few autobiographies or biographies published by book publishers to sell
Everybody have their own life story to tell
And no two life stories exactly the same
In a Human World where so many people are obsessed with money and fame
Though their sort of thinking to the higher self does belong
Sadly those who claim everybody are equal have got it wrong
Though in a fair Human World this is how it should be
It is not how it is one does have to agree
Though from life everyone does not receive what should be their due
That eevryone has a life story to tell happens to be true
But in a World where many poor people grow wealthy and do not live to die old
The stories of their lives though interesting will never be told
In a World where many people are obsessed with money and fame
Everyone has a story to tell just the same.

Clara Was There

Where old Clara Mountain as ever looks down
The changes keep on happening in Millstreet Town
And though not everyone the praise of change wish to sing
Change for the better can be a good thing

In Millstreet Town nowadays many people living there
Who in recent years arrived from Nations elsewhere
Duhallow is now a multicultural place
It is no longer a Barony of only one race

Before the first people arrived to live in Duhallow and Sliabh Luachra the Boggeragh Mountains on the countryside looked down
And Clara existed long before Millstreet Town
Clara as the countryside it overlooks stood without a name
To be timeless of the mountains is their claim to fame

The Celts as history records are not Ireland first race
The people who lived there before them they did displace
For God and for Country so much blood has been shed
And in Ireland like in every other Country they make heroes of their war dead

In a multicultural Ireland in the twenty first century
It is good to know people live in harmony
Live for your Country for it do not die
Whoever first said this was not telling a lie

On the countryside now known as Duhallow and Sliabh Luachra without a name looking down
Clara was there before men built Millstreet Town
The Boggeraghs were there before the first people came
And to be timeless is their claim to fame.

Live For Your Country

That to die for your Country makes you a hero forever is based on a lie
Live for your Country for it do not die
The deceased war heroes are absent from the war street parade
And they do not hear when the last post for them is played
The young fight in the wars ageing leaders instigate
And the deceased soldiers and the returned young war heroes in their patriotic speeches celebrate
For the few who gain from war many live through Earthly Hell
And patriotic speeches from politicians to the patriotic majority politically does serve them well
Live for your Country living is what life is about
Such a beautiful morning a soft wind blowing from the south
The wild birds are singing their songs of the Spring
How marvellous to be living life is such a great thing
Leave it to politicians and the gullible patriots to celebrate the war dead
Do not die for your Country live for is instead.

Walking Tim

A man in his late seventies his thinning hair silver grey
Walking Time he walks for kilometres every day
A contented fellow free of conceit or guile
When walking he greets everyone with a broad toothy smile
He was a postman in his working life
He never had children or a partner or wife
Quite fit for his years tall, athletic and trim
Walking Tim seems an apt nickname for him
Though he has the physical appearance of an athlete
In walking races in his younger years he never did compete
A handsome looking fellow for one of seventy nine
After tea every evening he drinks one glass of wine
In his semi detached brick unit he lives on his own
And as Waliking Tim he is widely known.

Dogs Can Be Great

It is very rare among human kind
Though as is said of love sometimes it can be blind
Love in it's unrequited form among most humans hard to be found
Though among dogs it is something that does abound
A walk every day a few pats and a feed
For it's loyalty and love is all a dog does need
A woman may lose the love of her husband and a man may lose the love of his wife
But your dog is your friend for the term of it's life
Human love can be fickle why otherwise pretend
But in your dog you do have a true lifetime friend
Just for a little love and kindness your dog you will repay
You in loyalty and love until it's dying day
Dogs can be great for to give them their due
In that they possess in them a love that is true.

The Most Flawed Of People

Doubtless there has to be truth in the saying perfection is not anyone's due
Though some far nearer to perfection than others is something that only happens to be true
Perhaps from your first homeplace you are one who lives far met many people and walked on many a street
Though you have met some more perfect than others the flawless person you never will meet
It is quite normal to have in you some flaws to be flawed it is a natural thing
But strange as it does seem the gullible masses the praises of the most flawed do love to sing
In a Human World of so much materialism the most of the admirers admiration always does seem for to go to the few
That gullible people are of the majority is not saying anything in any way that is new
Why we make heroes of flawed people one does wonder why
Narcissistic people who enjoy being the center of attention and would not know how it feels like to feel shy
Their admirers create in them swollen egos along with their fame
And for them being egotistical and self centered them one hardly can blame
There is no perfect person in truth one can say
But the most flawed of people are the most admired in the Human World of today.

Bill's Other Side

In the pub Bill is a humorous bloke
Laughter among his friends he does provoke
But at home with his teenage son John and his wife Ann
In his behaviour quite a different man

Abusive at home in a verbal and a physical way
Not the self in the pub he does portray
Where his true self is never on display
Many males like him in the World of today

He takes his frustration out on his son and his wife
With him they do not have an easy life
To know the person i am come and live with me as a truism remain
The meaning in this it's own self does explain

A well known member of the local football club
Popular with many and loved in the pub
But to him there is a darker side
That from most people he manages to hide.

Youth Does Not Last

Not quite the man he was years ago
Going back in time some five decades or so
When he won the national ten kilometre road race
Ageing is a thing the best too have to face
Though he enjoyed his moments of sporting renown
He is no longer a hero of the town
Time that does age has him walking slow
On him the years are beginning to show
In his late seventies a divorced grand-dad
Physically far better days he has had
Balding and grey and slow on his feet
Hard to imagine him now as a once great athlete
There was a time when he could run so fast
Even with the best of them youth does not last.

Freckled Duck

For many years Australian freckled duck have been on the protected list
Yet the opportunity to shoot at them some duck hunters cannot resist
Some of them die in duck hunting Season every year
And this is disappointing to read of or of hear

Darkish grey freckled birds with ways of their own
As rare water birds they are not widely known
The male distinct from the female with red on base of bill
And they mostly frequent shallow lakes where the water is still

Hidden among water reeds in a nest of twigs lined with down the female duck lay
Five to ten eggs of light pale to grey
Their song rather swan like one does not often hear
And of humans they do show a respectful fear

From other species of wild duck them one could never mistake
Their food source mostly acquatic plants at bed of shallow lake
Water birds that one does not see every day
They are quite distinctive of them one can say.

Those Content With Their Lot

Those content with their lot in life are of the truly blessed
On the impressing of the impressionable they are not obsessed
They live in their own way and do their own thing
And their own praises or the praises of others never do sing
Wish in my own ways i were of their kind
Doing my own thing and contented of mind
I though one of the tribeless and lacking in material success
The judgmental of the town too like to impress
Those with a normal functioning ego never follow the crowd
And of their life achievements never say they feel proud
And since the admiration of the admirers they are not of in need
One can say of them that they are lucky indeed
Like most wwithout many admirers their enemies few
And this is not saying anything that is new.

Humanity's Winners And Losers

Humanity's winners and losers do end as the same
The Reaper of lives does not respect money and fame
There is nowhere to hide from the emperor of death
For all of us of air there is a last breath
With their Worldly successes many get carried away
We read stories of them in newspapers every day
But on their existence time is ticking fast
And post bodily death they will not know if their fame does last
The longest lived human life in time that not long a span
On average three score and ten years and slightly longer for a woman than it is for a man
Some do die young and some live to die old
And the life stories of many will never be told
And whether your remains are buried or in a crematorium to ashes do burn
To the Earth we belong to we eventually return.

Nature Is A Great Teacher

Nature is a great teacher in truth one can say
And from her we learn something new every day
Her beauty to wonder never fails to give rise
For us every day she has some new surprise
Wherever you turn to look Nature's beauty you see
A beauty to view that is monetary free
And the more we learn of her the more our wonder of her grow
Yet so little about her we do seem to know
Nature is Mother Earth's sibling and friend
On each other it does seem they do co-depend
They are a successful partnership indeed
She helps Mother Earth grow the food for all of her life forms including us humans that for our survival we need
She is a great teacher in truth one can say
And from her we do learn something new every day.

So Many Arrogant People

So many arrogant people in the World not excluding me
Since the flaws we dislike in others in ourselves we do see
That i dislike in others what i dislike in myself i have come to realize
To the shortcomings in us as we age we grow wise
The near to perfect people of the World are so few
And this is not saying anything that is new
With far more more kind and compassionate people the World could do
There is room for improvement in most of us including me and you
Some people to help others go out of their way
And perform a good deed or two every day
Scarce a day goes by that they do not perform some good deed
That those who give freely can expect to receive
Is something that should not be hard to believe.

It Is Not

It is not your skin pigmentation or your nationality it is what is in your mind
The true test of the person you are are you compassionate and kind
And are you willing to help others in their time of need
Since red is the blood we all shed when we bleed
You may be quite wealthy a known multi millionaire
And of admirers you may be one who has quite a share
So many are influenced by the power of money is quite well known
But having said this it is each to their own
Those who admire people because of their money and material possessions overlook one important thing
That betterment to humanity they do not bring
Unless they share some of their money with those of financial assistance in need
In a World where many become poorer due to other people's greed
It is not your nationality or race or your social rank
That makes you a better person than one without any money in a bank.

Have You In Your Moments

Have you in your moments of reflection and self doubt
Ever took to wondering what your life is about
Though you are looked up to by many as one of the high achievers of the town
Sometimes your pondering on life's meaning has you mentally down
Materially one who is to the fore
But you have grown tired of competing with the high achievers next door
Which of you is the wealthiest and drives the most expensive car
Though contentment of mind from you does seem far
There must be more to life to yourself sometimes you do say
Than competing with others for material success every day
Of money you have far more than enough
And financially you are one who has done it tough
Yet the meaning of life you often wonder about
And in contentment of mind you have somehow lost out.

The Rhymers Keep Rhyming

The rhymers keep rhyming through decades of time
And only in death do they run out of rhyme
Their best physical years in the forever gone
But the rhymers in old age do keep rhyming on
To most twenty first century literary critics a rhymer is a non poet
Not one who is worthy of any literary note
But those considered rhymers nowadays were considered to be poets of the past
Suppose few things in time ever does seem to last
Though they will never know of literary renown
There are rhymers in every village and city and town
Who carry on rhyming for love of it and not for pay
Though not seen to be fashionable in the literary World of today
Though as writers few of them ever make the grade
They too are a part of the great wordsmith trade.

It Is Out Of War

Young people can be inspired to join the armed forces from watching a war street parade
And it is out of war that young heroes are made
The so called just war is based on a lie
Old men start wars for the young to fight for them and die
The Country's political leaders stand in silence at the National war memorial when the last post is played
They will not allow war from the memory to fade
Their false show of patriotism of course used for their own political gain
Their self centered interests in war it's own self does explain
They are like the weeds of the garden that stifle every flower
Their self centered interest in life is their own political power
The war supposed to end all wars ended more than a century ago
And the friends of today of the past were the foe
Young people inspired to join the armed forces from watching the street war parade
And it is out of war that young hereos are made.

Without Life

Life is the greatest gift every human being does possess
Far greater than any other form of success
Far greater than your greatest achievement this happens to be true
Though from life we do not always receive what we feel should be our due
On the ladder of material success you may not have climbed far
But this should not define you as the person you are
What people receive from life in a materialistic way
Does not prove them to be better than those materially poorer does seem true to say
As long as you have enough food to eat and a home to live in you are doing okay
Your luck in life it can change in a day
Tomorrow you may be laughing in delight
With your lotto ticket you may have won first division overnight
Without life you would not exist to know of failure or success
It is the greatest gift that anyone does possess.

Memories Are All

Memories are all i have left to retain
Of faces and places i may not see again
Time does not wait on anyone it ticks on and on
At the stroke of midnight today will have gone

My love of Nature began for to grow
In the old rushy fields where Finnow waters flow
But going back the Seasons this now seems long ago
And since time that ages all life forms has become my foe

In this place of marsupials koalas and wallabies and grey kangaroos
And birds such as emus, long billed corellas and yellow tailed black cockatoos
And other species of animals and birds far too numerous to name
Of this Southern Land it's flora and fauna among it's claims to Worldwide fame

On looking back the years time has gone so fast
And all i have left are memories of the past
And of life and Nature we learn every day
We learn as we live it is alwaays this way.
