On Blackbirds

The familiar song of the blackbird to hear a pleasant thing
Introduced to countries Worldwide these songsters of the Spring
The male a glossy black feathered bird the mostly silent female a plain mottled brown
In their range in south east Australia they frequent backyards in  village, city and town
In cup shaped nest in hedge or bush the female green spotted eggs does lay
Well camouflaged out of sight and well hidden away
The male a lovely singer is loved and well known
Of the turdus thrush family with a charm of their own
Though in Spring and early Summer them singing one does often hear
The males are mostly silent for eight months of the year
The flute like song of the blackbird melodious and clear
Bring memories of the homeland Spring to the migrant person near
One of the best loved songsters in Countries Worldwide
Of town parks and gardens and backyards of the countryside.

The Forever Dead

Their past is behind them for them no future ahead
They are now with Mother Earth the forever dead
In the flesh in their towns never to be seen again
And only the memories of them now remain
Not everyone of them in life knew of wealth and renown
Though their d n a in their descendants in every village, city and town
Death is the equalizer in truth one can say
Since the monarch and the pauper become equal on their lives final day
There is no inequality where dead people lay
Since death is the equalizer it works on this way
Many of them quite talented yet nonetheless
Life was the greatest gift they did possess
And this they did lose on the day they did die
All of us born to mortality and this not a lie.

Time Does Not Wait

Time does not wait it keeps ticking away
At the stroke of midnight the past will be today
Twelve years as a child seven as a teenager and fifteen in your physical prime
Too soon it does seem we become victims of time
Youth with us it does not have a long stay
That we age rather quickly only true to say
They were in their prime fifty years ago
The elderly citizens time has become their foe
They will tell you on looking back the Seasons time did go fast
And all they now have are memories of the past
Immortality for the soul may not be based on a lie
But the human body born into life to eventually die
Tomorrow of today will be a memory
For us to reflect on of the what used to be.

By Bracken Clad Hills

By bracken clad hills from here far away
No songbirds are singing on leafless trees today
The coldness of Winter in the December breeze
And the weather temperatures just above zero degrees
On one of the colder months of the far northern year
The cawings of the hungry rooks one often does hear
And in the farmyard sheds for Winter locked away
The cattle are bellowing for silage or hay
On the holly trees the migratory redwing thrushes the red berries eat
To their taste buds they must be quite a tasty treat
After recent heavy rain the waterways bank high flow
In weather that is cold enough for to snow
Today far north even as the migratory bird does fly
The rain clouds are gathering in the gray overcast sky.

It Was Love Of Rhyming

It was love of rhyming made a rhymer of me
And i penned my first rhymes in nineteen seventy three
When i was twenty seven a long time ago
Long before time it did become my foe

Twenty first century literary critics claim rhymers are unworthy of any literary note
And cannot even lay claim to the title of a minor poet
There were times when rhymers were of the admired of the town
But nowadays for them not even local renown

Screen writers, journalists, playwrights, modern poets, and novelists nowadays the literary in thing
And of the praises of rhymers anyone never sing
But despite what the literary critics do say
There will always be those who with rhyming words love to play

I am one of those people who enjoy penning rhyme
It is something i have been doing for quite a long time
If i did tell you differently it would be a lie
That i hope to be doing it until the day i do die.

Jim

Jim who drinks at the local pub never talks loud
Always the quiet fellow in the noisy crowd
He listens in silence whilst the others waffle away
Quiet waters run deep only true for to say
The one good at listening knowledge open to receive
And that the talkative are not good at learning one can only believe
Jim listens whilst others their own praises do sing
And are letting off verbal steam doing their own thing
He calls into the pub on his way home from work every day
Just for a few beers never for a long stay
Tall and dark haired and handsome in his early thirties in the prime of his life
With seven year old twin daughters and Kate his lovely wife
The quietest patron of the local pub Jim
And not many as wise or as knowledgeable as him.

We Learn Every Day

From other people's life stories we learn every day
We never stop learning in truth one can say
And the more you do learn the more your realization grow
That so little about life you do seem to know
Since of any more knowledge they are not in need
Those who think they know everything are quite lucky indeed
A saying from the past that is relevant today
Ignorance can be bliss as some like to say
Our lessons of life are not of the few
And we learn as we live everyday something new
When we are out walking in the park or on the street
We learn every day from the people we does meet
In life to receive we must learn how to give
And from the book of life we do learn as we live.

The Inequality Gap

When someone ask what for a living you do
Most likely this person is trying to pigeon hole you
Since people who uphold inequality among people are not of the few
And this is not saying anything that is new
In the twenty first century the inequality gap is widening by the day
And it is because of money or the lack of it that it is this way
And those with the most money the most power does command
This is something that is not hard to understand
In a Human World where many live in poverty
The majority of the wealth owned by the minority
This is how it is and how it always will be
Money it does create inequality
Some will tell you all people are equal but despite what they say
The inequality gap keeps on widening by the day

On Willie Wagtails

Once seen and once heard to recognize them you never again will fail
The willie wagtail known to some as the Australian nightingale
In a cup shaped nest of grass felted with spiders webs on fork of branch of  tree
The female lay pink dotted pale eggs of two or three
Their nest and their young with aggression they defend
On their breeding Season they do not treat anyone as a friend
In Australian backyards quite a common sight
In Spring they can often be heard singing at night
And perhaps this is the only reason why
The nickname of Australian nightingale to them does apply
Small black and white flycatchers with ever long wagging tails
The males with white on their eyebrows distinguish them from the females
Not the finest of songsters but with ways of their own
And to most Australians they are rather well known.

The Price Of Material Success

In a World where for material and personal success people do compete
The humble quite achievers becoming harder to meet
In the twenty first century self  promotion is an in thing
And so many their own praises does love to sing
Yet so many the fruits of their material success in their lifestyles enjoy
Due to their greed for money the Planet that supports us all are trying to destroy
And to the one who supports us the wrongs for our material gains we do
Will be paid for by future generations of people and not me and you
To say to the Earth that does feed us humanity is not a friend
Is only saying what is true why otherwise pretend
Mother Earth who supplies us with our every living need
We see fit to abuse to serve our human greed
For the wrongs we are doing to our Earth Mother today
Future generations of people the price will have to pay.

Perhaps I Never More

Perhaps i never more will hear in May the chaffinch sing
Or see the wildering flowers in bloom in the old fields in late Spring
It was the yearn to travel brought me to live far south
Of the fields of the badger and the brown hare and the waterways of the brown trout
Of where i first grew to love Nature when i was a young boy
And learning of her ways today is something i do enjoy
Of the far off bracken hills the memories do remain
And sometimes on my flights of fancy i climb on them again
And in the prime of Summer on a clear evening in July
The mottled brown lark is singing as upwards he does fly
A songster of the mountain of humans rather shy
Singing whilst ascending a musical speck in the sky
And only the memory  today i do retain
Of for me what used to be but will never be again.

Tomorrow Will Dawn

Babies are born to life and people die every day
And no one grows younger and time ticks away
That we are born to mortality is not a lie
And the longer you live the sooner you will die
Those in their physical prime a few decades ago
Are now showing their years time has become their foe
At the stroke of midnight today will be of the past
And time as ever  keeps on ticking fast
On how long we live there is no guarantee
The same for the wealthy and famous as is for you and me
The past gone forever and the future ahead
And we age rather quickly and will be forever dead
We are born to mortality when all is said and done
And tomorrow will dawn but not for everyone.

In A World Of Many Gods

Some people take their devotion to their god too far
On those of a different god they do declare war
A war over god too hard to understand
When over god the flames of hatred are fanned
In war people over god their anger release
And in a World of many gods there will never be peace
There is only one god who is loving and kind
And this is the true god who lives in the mind
Of every compassionate person who for others does care
With love in abundance in them for to share
Between people of different religion and race they do not differentiate
A far more peaceful and better World to live in they help to create
Those who go to war for their god are of the extreme
And in them lots of improvement for the better is how it does seem.

Are You One Who Has

Are you one who has had your moments of self doubt
And asked yourself what is your life all about
Like you there are many who ask of themselves such questions every day
Self doubt is not uncommon in truth one can say
You are not the only one to question the worth of your life in the town
Many from time to time does feel mentally down
You have not been feeling too happy of late
On sadness like most moods there is a use by date
In a Human World where so many for material success compete
The challenges of life every day one does meet
To to the morals of living an honourable life you live true
You feel more recognition ought to be your due
But far greater than any other form of success
Your life is the greatest gift you does possess.

An Earth Vandal

One of the town's wealthiest people the word has got around
He owns the big machines that dig huge holes in the ground
From damaging Mother Earth who does feed us a multi millionaire
Sadly in the twenty first century his type are not rare
Yet he is a man so many does admire
And just to be like him in life their desire
For the greed of money it is seen as okay
To damage the Earth that supports all life in the Human World of today
So little of Nature's creatures most of his sort does seem to know
They could not tell apart a blackbird from a crow
Those who love the Earth for all living things care
And of the damage some do to the Earth who feeds us for money they feel sadly aware
One of the town's wealthy people who owns the huge excavating machines his admirers not few
That many admire Earth vandals is not saying what is new.

She Said To Me

She said to me since for doing it you never receive any pay
Have you ever considered giving rhyming away
More rhymes every day you post to an internet literary site
And so few seem to bother to read what you write
Though with what she was saying i could not disagree
Her words of advice though truthful were mentally hurtful to me
I did not argue with her left her have her say
At least for her advice i did not have to pay
She told me her advice to me was for my own good
I could have told her i was addicted to rhyming but she would not have understood
Since she is one who looks at life in a material way
And is quite judgmental like so many others in the Human World of today
It is each to their own as the wise one did say
At least for her unsolicted advice i did not have to pay.

God's Recruiter

As a recruiter for his god he has proved himself a winner
And his god he says who loves the poor also protects the sinner
The so called devout person of late some local negative press has been receiving
A few adults who had a lot to do with him as children say in his public persona he is quite deceiving
The accusations they level against him in public he keeps on denying
His good reputation he defend by saying that they are lying
But even unproven allegations damage can do some in him are disappointed
Since the accusations made in public against him are quite damaging and pointed
But among his congregation he has many a defender
Who says he is a true man of god and not a religious pretender
Those who made the allegations may not be among  the sainted
But the character of god's recruiter by their accusations has been left quite tainted
As a recruiter for his religion he has proved himself a winner
And his god who does love the poor also protects the sinner.

In Life

In life there are lessons and time ticks on fast
And we only can learn from mistakes of the past
We have memories to cherish and those we wish to forget
Few do go through life without things to regret
For many a new challenge in life for to meet every day
And few without worries in truth one can say
And if we do wrong to another in some way
If not to the law then to Karma we pay
No two journeys in life exactly the same
Some do become wealthy and know of great fame
And some live their lives in extreme poverty
In a Human World that is sadly lacking in equality
Life does have it's good and bad days one does suppose
And the one with many friends is not without foes.

Love For Uniting People

Love for uniting  people is such a great force
In kindness and compassion it has it's source
People with love in them have it with to share
And of the needs of others are always aware
If everyone had love in them how great this would be
No more wars to fight in the twenty first century
For love is the key of the lock of the gate to trust
And those who have it in them are honourable, compassionate and just
Since of a better World to live in they sow the seed
Of more people with love in them humanity is in need
The unsung heroines and heroes of their side of the town
The people with love in them always helping the financially down
On sharing with others the love they have within
They help to make the World better to live in.

On Rhyme

To many educated people rhyme is mainly doggerel
Just the scribbling of poetasters publishers will not publish to sell
Something that is out of fashion in the literary World of today
Literary trends as ever changing it has always been this way

Long gone are the days when a rhymer was of the admired of the town
For the twenty first century rhymers not even local renown
Literary critics dismiss rhymers as unworthy of note
And it is they who decide who is worthy to be referred to as a poet

Rhyme a popular form of literature many decades ago
But that time brings with it changes only happens to be so
Maybe in the future decades rhymers will again know of fame
In the passing of  time few things as they were stay the same

Once a popular form of literature a story written in rhyme
Like many other forms of entertainment it too has lost out to time
In literature novel writing and blank verse poetry the trending things of the day
And that time as ever brings with it change seems a true thing to say.

To A Woman's Shame

What can be seen as manly to a man can be to a woman's shame
If she does have many sexual flings to her name
When it comes to sexual behaviour women to men treated in a different way
As it always was it remains so today
Most men in the World a virgin wish to wed
Though they themselves have been with many women in bed
For his stories of his sexual conquests his friends him admire
And just to be like him in a sexual way desire
Most women of their sexual affairs in public never brag
But when it comes to boasting of their virility few males seem to lag
When it comes to sexual behaviour men and women are treated as different as day is from night
What is seen for a man to be manly for a woman not right
And though in many Countries women are treated as equals of men today
But not when it comes to sexual behaviour in truth one can say.

On Memories

The same for everyone as for you and me
The past in our memories of what used to be
Some memories we have does have their source in regret
But they remain with us though them we wish we could forget
But your happiest memories have their source in joy
Of your younger years as a girl or a boy
Memories that bring you happiness today
Of the childhood games with your young friends you did play
Memories of a first love from the distant past
That despite years of time in you does last
Though the past may be in the forever gone
The good and the bad memories in us does live on
Our past full of memories that in us does remain
In moments of reflection for to visit again.

One Of The Literary Unsung

Not even known to many on her side of the town
And she feels no desire for any literary renown
Though she is a fine poetess for to give to her what is her due
And to her higher self she is one who is true

Though unsung perhaps the best poet in the town today
For her poems are quite memorable in truth one can say
In her late fifties without a partner she was never anyone's wife
And without any children she lives a single life

A woman who is ageing in the natural way
In her brown shoulder length hair she does have some gray
For her age quite attractive she seems rather shy
And to live as a good person her best she does try

As a State registered nurse she earns her living pay
One quite kind and caring she helps people every day
In her spare time she writes poetry some blank verse and rhyme
And many of her poems will stand the test of time

For one of fifty seven she looks rather young
An under-rated poet one of the literary unsung
Her own praises you will never hear her sing
Though in her kindness and her work joy to others she does bring.

Red Wattlebirds

Where flowering trees are one often them does see
Against other honeyeaters they aggressively defend their territory
Mottled brown gray birds of humans quite shy
With red fleshy wattles and some yellow unders not hard to identify
The female lay pale blotched pinkish eggs of two or three
In cup shaped nest of twigs high on a branch of a tree
That the male and the female with aggression defend
At breeding time they do not treat anyone as a friend
To be different from other birds one of their claims to fame
Red wattlebirds for them does seem an apt name
The red wattlebirds you see in your backyard today
Tomorrow in distance may be far away
Migratory honeyeaters with a rather coarse song
Once see and once heard you will never again get them wrong.

The Kind And Good People

They restore my faith in humanity in truth i can say
The kind and good people i meet every day
By far more good people in the World than bad
For this in itself one ought to feel glad
There are very good people in every village and city and town
Who help and support the financially down
To help people they often go out of their way
Without the reward for their kindness of pay
They sow the seeds of good Karma for themselves one has to believe
The generous people who give to receive
Of the needs of those doing it tough they are quite aware
And some of the love they have in them with others they share
In making the World better to live in their part they do play
True friends of humanity of them one can say.

One More Victim Of Time

He has become just one more victim of time
The town's greatest athlete in his physical prime
The hair on his balding head is silver gray
He had his good innings of him one can say
In his mid eighties the years on him show
His fastest pace nowadays to say the least slow
He is not the man that he was years ago
Eventually time becomes everyone's foe
A great grandfather divorced from his wife
He is one who has known of better days in life
The years on his ageing body does show
His fastest pace nowadays to say the least slow
Of far better days in life he surely has known
One of the town's eldest people he lives on his own.

You Boast How

You boast of how materially well that you do
It seems Mr Self Centered the World revolves around you
You claim now you are the wealthiest person in the town
You cannot climb higher than this you can only slide down
On the social ladder you may have climbed far
But you are not as great as you tell us you are
Self praise is no praise only true to say
There are so many like you in the Human World of today
Who feel superior and self confident in their material success
And of their stories of their achievements others like to impress
Their own praises they only do love to sing
To brag of the self is their favourite thing
You are one of many who of self loves to brag
For narcissism your sort does carry the flag.

On Koalas

A sad enough thing of  for to be aware
koalas in south east Australia are becoming rare
Due to environmental diseases and Global Warming that hurries on Climate Change
These arboreal marsupials even becoming rare in their common range

Bushfires in recent years that have ravaged the forested countryside
Have killed thousands of koalas and their habitat destroyed
With their numbers decreasing alarmingly of late
Koalas may soon be extinct in their wild state

In a few decades from now it well may be
A koala on a gum tree a young Australian may not see
For extinction of wildlife species we are sowing the seed
Due to our desire for money that has it's source in greed

So sad to realize that koalas are becoming rare
This Earth is for us to live on and with others creatures to share
For the decline in koala numbers us humans must take some of the blame
And if they do become extinct it will be to all of our shame.

Life's Lessons

We learn as we live something new every day
And for some of life's lessons a price we do pay
And every day for us to learn something new
Life's lessons to say the least not of the few
That life is a great teacher one comes to believe
And from the book of life knowledge we receive
And the more we do learn the more we come to realize
That we are not as knowledgeable as we thought we were or not as wise
Some will tell you from life we receive what is our due
But in many instances this is not true
The child born to poor parents of becoming wealthy and famous stand little chance
Due to the handicap of poor birth circumstance
Life does have it's lessons for us all
And we have been learning from it before we learned how to crawl.

Way Beyond Me

You sure do like to complain of the hard life you have had
And for your many small blessings you never feel glad
So many who know it far tougher than you are sleeping rough tonight
From the day that they were born for them an uphill fight

With a devoted wife and two healthy young daugthers in life you are doing okay
And a nice home to return to at the end of your working day
On saying by life you have been hard done by you must be hard to please
You must be one of those afflicted by the poor me disease

So many like you so hard to satisfy
Not happy in their lives one must wonder why
They cannot seem to realize of how lucky they are
With a nice family and a nice home to live in and own a good car

So many poor people on the poor side of the town
out of work and homeless and financially down
They would look on you as of the privileged few
On saying that wealth is relevant is not saying what is new

As one of the children of the not lesser gods
You were not born into life for to battle the odds
Why some people who are lucky of a hard life complain
Seems way beyond me to attempt to explain.

So Lucky Are Those

In every village, city and town the success starved one does meet
For success with each other every day they compete
In a World where many do daydream of  great wealth and fame
So many trying hard to make for themselves a name
On the ladder of success a hard climb to the top
And from there for some it can be a sudden drop
And though losing is a thing anyone does not choose
For one to win big many does have to lose
So lucky are those who in them does not have the need
At everything they do in life for to succeed
The people who are not part of the success race
They choose to live their lives at quite a steady pace
To join in the rat race they do not feel inclined
At least they do know of  contentment of mind.

It Is Said The Law

It is said the law treats everyone as equal as many like to say
But i am one of those who does not see it this way
People who should be in prison enjoying the good life today
For some people anyhow crime seems to pay

In the criminal justice system the power of money a huge part does play
In a fair Human World it would not be this way
Some who should be in prison serving years of time
Are enjoying the good life from their proceeds of crime

Those who believe the law treats all people equal are not hard to deceive
Since the opinions of the self deluded they are willing to believe
That money speaks every language as a truism remain
The meaning in this it's own self does explain

The test of fairness the justice system does fail
There are many better people today in jail
Than some criminals enjoying the good life living free
That the law treats everyone as equal i for one does not agree

A November Day In The Moyne Shire

Freshly mowed grass with the sweet scent of hay
Is wafting in the breeze of a November day
Behind the gray clouds the sun hidden away
The weather cool for late Spring in truth one can say
The coastal Moyne Shire looking lush and green after the recent rain
And the breeding frogs singing in the watery drain
Tiny and shy and hidden from sight
On their breeding Season they sing day and night
The blackbird a feathered minstrel of the Spring
Joy to the listener his familiar song bring
And the black and white birds who sing all through the year
The warblings of the magpies so pleasant to hear
And the paddocks quite green after the recnt showers
Are looking resplendent in their Nature's flowers.

The Town's Greatest Cyclist

Aspirational sports person your muscles need a rest
Why shorten your life for glory on trying to be the best
The human body like an engine when worked hard quickly wears out
Medical experts claim constant hard exercise can bring on a heart attack their reasoning why doubt
The town's greatest cyclist in his mid twenties he died the other day
After winning a big race for glory his price to pay
Had he not pushed his body beyond the limit he would not have died so young
He will not hear the eulogy when his praises are sung
The greatest ever cyclist to be raised in the town
But he paid by far too huge a price for widespread sporting renown
His family and fans and friends are grieving his young partner in tears
Had he not craved sporting glory he may have had lived for years
The human heart like a car engine it can only take so much strain
And though the fans of cycling good memories of him will retain
He died in his mid twenties his heart under too much stress
It was a huge price that he paid for ultimate sporting success.

For Me A Last Rhyme

Materially one who has not done well
But like everyone of life i have my own stories to tell
Compared to most people my biggest worries are small
I do not have much to complain of at all
In my younger years i aspired to be a poet
One seen to be worthy of literary note
But what we wish for does not always for us turn out to be
At least anyhow this is how it is for me
Since my physical prime there has been many a day
And time on my life ever ticking away
Each day to our last day brings us one day more near
One might say this is stating the obviously clear
Like others of my age i am losing out to time
And like every rhymer for me a last rhyme.

With Yourself You Ought To Begin

If you wish to make the World better to live in
Then perhaps with yourself  you ought to begin
Though you may win admirers when medals and prizes you win
The power to do good only comes from within
Though you may win admirers for the good things for yourself you do
The good things you do for others says more about you
Than any form of personal success
Though acts of generosity and kindness many never impress
Those who help people in need of helping every day
Out of the kindness of their hearts not for recognition or pay
Are really good people in truth one can say
And for making a better world to live in their part does play
It is not the good things you do for yourself but the good things for others you do
That tells of the worth of the person that is you.

Hope

If you have in you this thing known as hope
With the worst things life throws at you doubtless you will cope
One can only pity those that hope from has gone
For they lose the desire to keep living on
A great gift to possess in truth one can say
Hope comes to your aid on your toughest day
They lose the will to live those that hope in is dead
And see only darkness in the days ahead
For a better future hope to does give rise
As those who have it in them come to realize
That when they felt down it helped them survive
And they feel rather grateful that hope in them is alive
Of the praises of hope feel happy to sing
Those who have it in them have a wonderful thing.

A Long Way To Go

Human beings have achieved many great things men have walked on the moon
And scientists claim they will find another planet for people to live on soon
Some distant planet way beyond the stars
Even far beyond Jupiter and Venus and Mars

The invention of the internet connects people Worldwide
An achievement for humanity that is a source for pride
But by human created nuclear bombs it cannot be denied
That the Earth that does feed us could well be destroyed

And despite human achievements some things as they were stay the same
Class distinction that causes inequality is one worthy to name
People of so called royal blood born into titles by birth circumstance
One can say their wealth and fame and honorary titles came to them by chance

That human beings have many great achievements to boast of there can be no denying
Yet sad  to think in the World of today people of malnutrition are dying
And many people without shelter will sleep rough tonight
This sharp increase in inequality between people just does not seem right

Of our many achievements us humans ought to feel proud
But our praises we ought not to sing very loud
For we have many negatives happens to be so
And to achieve perfection we still have a long way to go.

The Laughter Of Children

The laughter of children in the park playground as they play
In memory takes me to my childhood far away
In our many games in the park of the town
We laughed as we chased the football up and down

I often wonder where those i played childhood games with might be today
Perhaps some of them where the deceased are does lay
And some of them are ageing migrants like me
With only their memories of the what used to be

The laughter of children is a joy to hear
To an ageing migrant who is walking near
To where they are playing such a beautiful sound
Where laughter is joy does abound

On a beautiful sunny evening in November in the southern Spring
The flies and bees buzzing and Nature's birds sing
And the laughter of children as they do play
Reminds me of my own childhood in a place far away

On Nature

That Nature has her secrets in truth one can say
But of her we learn something new every day
On my many walks of her i does learn something new
Her lessons one can say are not of the few
Most of Nature's wild creatures have ways of their own
And so much about them remains as unknown
There is more to the bird than the song it does sing
Learning of Nature's creatures joy to the learner does bring
The one who helps Mother Earth grow a majestic tree
There is far more to Nature that what in her we does see
Her Seasons to her do come and do go
And that she is immortal happens to be so
The one who helps Mother Earth from a tiny seed to grow a beautiful flower
Remains as she ever was the World's number one super power.

Most People Like Sheep

Wisdom i learned from a sagess in Duhallow
Most people like sheep need a leader to follow
As admirers of arrogant people many are known
The people who do not have minds of their own
A new leader rises when another slides down
There are more followers than leaders in every village and city and town
So many looked on as leaders not even close to wise
That many look up to narcissists should not seem a surprise
In this twenty first century when humility seems dead
That the humble person does lose out in truth can be said
Among leaders of all sorts any humble person you will not find
Those chosen to lead are of the narcissistic kind
Like sheep many people follow the leader it does seem this way
As it was it is and this is how it will stay.

Henry Lawson

An Australian literary person of note
Henry Lawson lived his verses he was a true poet
And a great writer of short stories as well
Of the ups and downs of life he had much for to tell

If you have not heard of him by name of Auistralian literature you know nothing at all
He too had his human weaknessess alcohol was his downfall
The fans of his writing as fans do remain
Those who enjoy reading his poems and stories re-read them again

Henry Lawson he died many decades ago
He did not live to grow old for time to become his foe
Though his does live on as a great literary name
He was one who did pay a huge price for fame

His legacy lives in his writing today
One can say of him with words he had a way
He may have breathed his last just beyond his physical prime
But his poems and his stories have lived on in time

The works of Henry Lawson many Australians admire
And of singing his praises never seem to tire
Generations of young Australian writers he does inspire
And just to write like him in life their desire.

Internet Scammers

To steal hard working  people's life savings in their scams they are not shy
That they are a low form of criminals none ought to deny
The people they steal from are not wealthy people in truth one can say
No shortage of online scammers in the World of today
In their scams they rob people of their savings and leave them in poverty
Scammers live a lavish lifestyle through dishonesty
Into criminality in quite a big way
They do have it wrong those who say crime does not pay
Nowadays people doing business online ought to be aware
That those who want to steal their money by deception are no longer rare
They make their dishonest fortunes deceiving people who trust
Who do not realize not everyone like them are honest and just
Internet scammers are not of the few
And this is not saying anything that is new.

Those Who Have Love In Them

Those who have love in them new  friends always win
And a World without love would be hard to live in
Love brings people together and lack of it divide
And what is in your hometown is also Worldwide
Those who have love in them have some love to share
And of the needs of others are also aware
On uniting people love is a great force
Of kindness, compassion and empathy it is the source
One of the great gifts that any human being does possess
Love can be the gateway to a life of happiness
Those who have love in them for peace are sowing the seed
And of more of their sort humanity is in need
The great gift of love is a wonderful thing
And of it's praises we ought to feel happy to sing.

Politics Divide People

The same in your town as it is Worldwide
Their political views people only divide
Why people take politics and politicians so seriously one must wonder why
That so many of us in our opinions are quite opinionated seems hard to deny
Though most people have their political affiliations is how it seems to be
Why some people dislike each other because of politics does seem beyond me
To understand why because of politics one does lose a friend
This does seem quite hard for to comprehend
Those of similar political views seem to get on quite okay
This is how it is and it was always this way
Most politicians are not trustworthy for to give them their due
Yet for the political parties most people vote for their children vote for too
That politics divide people seems true to say
This is how it is and it was always this way.

It Is A Sad Thing

It is a sad thing for one to have to say
That the social gap keeps on widening by the day
The wealthy growing wealthier at the poor's expense
The promotion of capitalism does not make for good sense
That we are all born as equals seems hard with to agree
The child born into life to parents in poverty
May never climb far on the ladder to material success
At least poor people never have any fans to impress
Sad to think that in the twenty first century
That the poor are growing poorer is how it seems to be
The poor of humanity must not have a god on their side
And there are so many of them nowadays Worldwide
Sad to think that so many people due to birth circumstance
Of any success in life does stand little chance.

On Eastern Grey Kangaroos

Eastern grey kangaroos are seldom seen out by day
In high scrub where there are trees from sight they rest hidden away
They are mostly nocturnal of them one can say
Large marsupials mostly of a brownish  grey
An amusing sight indeed a female kangaroo hopping about
With the small head of her joey from her pouch sticking out
Living in large mobs one does have to suppose
Could that be in numbers there is safety from any foes
Kangaroos are creatures of ways of their own
And so much about them remain as unknown
In eastern greys the difference from most other kangaroos not hard to see
And the same does apply to all species of the macropod family
Eastern grey kangaroos are quite wary of humans in truth one can say
Resting in high scrub they spend most of their day.

On Hearing A Boobook Owl

On a nearby tree in the still of the night
A boobook owl is calling in the moonlight
Boobook boobook is all it has to say
This bird never seen out in the light of day

The roosting small birds in the bushes and trees near
Awake at the voice of a bird they does fear
With a threat to their lives to them nearby
To a safer roost they quickly does fly

The loud distinctive calls travel far and wide
Of these brown owls of the Australian countryside
If non predatory birds discover where they are roosting at day
They mob them and from their territory force them away

In the still of the night with the moon in the sky
A bird of the bright lamp of day that is shy
Is calling boobook in it's distinctive cry
Out there in the paddock on a tree nearby.

What Others Think Of Me

What others think of me is no business of mine
They have their opinions and this suits me fine
To many my greatest achievements seem small
But this does not bother me one bit at all
On my next birthday i will turn seventy five
At this stage of life i feel happy to be alive
Many i went to school with in eternal rest lay
I am lucky to be living and healthy in truth i can say
Life is the greatest gift anyone does possess
Far greater than any other form of success
The praises of the wealthy and famous the masses sing
But success as such can be a relative thing
Criticism and praise i treat in the same way
I just live to make the most of every day.

On Hearing A Male Blackbird

How beautiful to hear a male blackbird sing
On this sunny evening in November in the southern Spring
The sound of his voice does take me far away
To a leafy grove in the prime of the May
In the calm of the evening by the far away town
When the birds were on song in an hour before sundown
Among them the song of  a blackbird melodious and clear
A familiar voice of the Spring of the year
A familiar songsters far south in this southern countryside
Their kind have been introduced by migrants in many Countries Worldwide
A song that has reduced many migrants to tears
That carried them in memory of Spring to their younger years
The song of a blackbird in the prime of the May
From where they now live in distance far away.

No Such A Thing

Of the praises of superiority the racists may sing
But of a superior race of people there is no such a thing
There are good and bad people in every village and city and town
Of all different races of black, white and brown
Among human beings for superiority there is not any place
Goodness and kindness does not have a nationality or color or race
A good person can be of any nationality
This is how it is and how it always will be
Every good living person believes in live and let live
And to receive in life you must know how to give
Every good person to everyone respect does pay
And are not racist in any sort of a way
For racism in humanity there is not a place
There is no such a thing as a superior race

Lattie Murphy

Lattie Murphy nee Walsh lived in Clarabeg small Clara for most of her long life
To her children a good mother and to her late husband Sonny a good wife
One who had seen many Seasons in her ninety five years
And her passing from life would not have gone without tears
Down to earth and quite attractive in her physical prime
Lattie had made many friends over decades of time
Quite a likeable person though her gift of life from her has gone
In all who knew and knew of her good memories of her will live on
Born to life in the mid nineteen twenties this seems long ago
Time as is said becomes everyone's foe
The Seasons come and go and time change with it does bring
Sadly in Clarabeg Lattie has lived her last Spring
She was a good person and to many was a good friend
And our journey in life for us all it does end.

Loose Lips

Wise sayings as pearls of wisdom remain as verbal gold
Loose lips does sink ships from the days of old
They do a lot  damage the loose lips of the town
Many good reputations by their slanderous lies are dragged down
Though their allegations proven false mud sticks as they say
By their sort good reputations are tainted every day
To say that the loose lips of the World are no longer rare
Is only saying of what many are quite aware
Those who knowingly indulge in spreading false rumors will receive the Karma they are due
To their higher selves they do live as untrue
Character assassins good reputations wilfully destroy
And the verbal damage they do they seem to enjoy
Sadly far too many of their sort in the Human World of today
But to Karma their price will be huge for to pay.

So Lucky The People

So lucky the people whose biggest worry is small
Who feel they have little to worry of at all
The problems of life they does take in their stride
There ought to be more of their sort Worldwide
If they do have worries they do not complain
And a positive attitude they does retain
They do make the most of their every day
And  negativity in their lives any part does not play
That life can be unfair you never hear them say
And you never see them grumpy when things are not going their way
They accept that in life you cannot always win
And the positive attitude always comes from within
The people whose friends in numbers does grow
Who are blessed for to have been born with the bright inner glow.

The Billionaire Land Developer

The billionaire land developer the beauty in Nature never does see
To him the stately and beautiful old growth tree
Standing in a property he purchased for development in the industrial side of the town
Sadly is for the tree removalist to be cut down
The billionaire land developer says greenies are standing in the way
Of progress in the twenty first century of today
The abuse of Nature and Mother Earth to him seems quite right
A big building in his eyes is a beautiful sight
Of so little of Nature's ways he can claim of to know
To him a currawong is a species of crow
Of the importance of a healthy Earth for the future of his descendants the point he does miss
There is truth in the saying that ignorance can be bliss
The billionaire land developer any beaauty in Nature cannot see
He finds joy in the removal of every old growth tree.

Fear To The Minds

Fear to the minds of many it does bring
And even the thought of it is a fearful thing
But the fact of the matter and fact never lie
Is we are born into life to eventually die
Since to the god of any religion i never kneel to pray
Of an  afterlife for the soul of the mind is not for me to say
But i can only wonder why many religious people who believe in a heavenly place for their souls after bodily death
Will struggle for life to their last living breath
Life is the greatest gift any human being does possess
Far greater than any other form of success
Even some of the bravest their fear of death have not outgrown
Suppose that it is a fear of the unknown
Lucky for other life forms in truth one can say
That they do not realize for them there is a last night and day.

What For Others You Do

It is not what you do for yourself but what for others you do
That as a person says more about you
Than anything for yourself that you achieve
I am one who believe in giving to receive
Though the majority of people do not see it this way
There are so many people in the World of today
Who greatly admire the super wealthy few
But then suppose each to their own point of view
Though they never share their wealth with those in poverty
These people looked on as role models by the majority
Though it is for their own selves they do seem to care
And with their own kindred they only does share
Though on the so called ladder of success you may not have climbed far
It is good the things you do for others tell of the person you are.

One Who Likes His Own Company

One who likes his own company it does seem this way
He is a loner of him the judgmental does say
For the non tribal people of the Human World of today
The negative judgments of the tribal judgmental the price they must pay
His interests are different to most in the town
Far different to those who verbally put him down
Than most of them he is far more environmentally aware
In the interests he has they would never wish to share
Global Warming due to human created carbon emissions he does take to heart
Politically from the majority he is poles apart
Yet a kind person of good Karma he does sow the seed
By helping anyone of his help in need
From the attacks of the greedy Mother Earth and her flora and fauna he tries to defend
And to Nature he is a loyal and trusted friend.

You Can Praise His Dog

You can praise his dog and bring joy to his life
But do not praise his partner or do not praise his wife
For this to him is a threat and will cause him offense
They are not for you to praise does this to you make sense
For a punch in your face do not give him the excuse
For when you praise his lover he thinks her you are trying to seduce
Though in your own way you are trying to be nice
In a black eye or missing teeth for praising his lover may well be your price
Some men they are strange in their own strange way
Do not praise their wife or their partner but to pat their dog is okay
Of the praises of so called real men you may hear many sing
But the male ego when threatened can be a dangerous thing
For to praise and pat his dog may bring joy to his day
But of his partner or wife best for you not have anything to say.

Perhaps I Will Never

Perhaps i will never see Clara again
Or walk in the fields in the wind that brings rain
To that beautiful spot where the waterways meet
In the green countryside near the Town of  Millstreet
In Claraghatlea where i first saw light of day
To many there i would be a stranger today
Though the old fields that some of them i knew by name
Today to me perhaps would look much the same
As they did look many Seasons ago
Only human interference brings change happens to be so
And if not altered in any way they would not have changed at all
From the fields of the past in memory i recall
And only the memories now does remain
Of what used to be for me but will not be again.

An Instigator Of Laughter

Wherever he is at joy is to be found
He carries it with him and shares it around
The Human World need more like him since his sort are rare
He is one of those people who does not have a care
An instigator of laughter of him one can say
He always does bring joy to somebody's day
He is one who others of feel happy of to know
Since he has in him the bright inner glow
To humanity the spreaders of joy are a great gift indeed
And of more of their sort the World is in need
They laugh rather easily never complain
One reason new friends every day they do gain
Of happiness one who does sow the seed
And of more of his sort the Human World is in need.

One Untruthful Word

One untruthful word can destroy one's career
Started in a pub by one among friends drinking beer
And though not one grain of truth in the rumor mud sticks as they say
Someone's good reputation is ruined by a deliberate lie every day
An untruthful rumor to one's character a lot of damage can do
The consequence for the victim of something that is untrue
On one who is of good character can leave a permanent stain
That though is proven false nonetheless does remain
On the one who is slandered for quite a long time
Though she or he is not guilty of any crime
Those who deliberately harm people with false rumors have no sense of guilt or shame
Sadly they seem to enjoy harming someone's good name
But for their sort a price to pay happens to be so
They will reap the Karma that they do sow.

We Do Learn As We Live

The years do pass quickly beyond our physical prime
Yet so much to learn in so little time
And the more we do learn the more we come to realize
That we do know so little this is not a surprise
From the book of life we do learn every day
That we never stop learning in truth one can say
One fact of our existence and fact never lie
That we learn as we live until the day we do die
Those who believe they know everything must feel lucky indeed
Since of any more knowledge they do not feel in need
But those open to learning knowledge does receive
That we learn as we live should not be hard to believe
We do learn as we live as a truism remain
The meaning in this it's own self does explain.

Just Business As Usual

It is just business as usual as Greta Thunberg said
On saying this she did hit the verbal nail on the head
World leaders from the Swedish teenager a verbal spray did cop
The Climate Summit in Glasgow was just another flop
No phasing out of environmentally destroying burning of fossil fuels especially coal
Every abuse of Mother Earth is an attack on Nature's soul
When the Earth that does feed us refuses to grow food us humans will come to realize
That it will be all too late then in hindsight to be wise
It looks like for us humans we have sealed our own fate
That in combating Global Warming we have left it too late
To sacrifice the health of the environment is not a good idea
That we are laying the ground work for our own extinction may very well be
The young Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg on her opinions is certainly right
That for saving the Earth that does feed us we have lost the fight.

Those Who Tell Us

Those who tell us that poets are of the few
Are not telling us anything that is in any way that is new
Though many refer to themselves as a poet
And deaserve to be looked on as worthy of literary note
One must say fair dues to them for thinking of themselves in this way
But what we believe ourselves to be in reality is true to say
Not really what we may think we are
Since many take their delusion of self importance one can say that bit far
There are minor poets in every village and city and town
Who do know of some local fame are strangers to literary renown
The self promoted poets are many but the true poets are rare
This is something that most people of are aware
The words i am a poet in truth one can say
Are often used by people who of their literary importance get carried away

On Pee Wees

Medium sized birds one does see every  day
Pee wee pee wee is all they have to say
Black and white birds also known as mudlark or magpie lark
Often seen in backyards, country paddocks or town park

Whilst searching for insects on the ground
They bob their head as they walk around
And raise their wings as they sing pee wee
These familiar birds to many and to me

Species of a mud nest building race
The female distinguishable  from the male in that she has more white on her face
She lay pink spotted eggs of five or four or three
In cup shaped nest of mud high on a fork of tree

Birds known and loved by people Australia wide
In town parks, backyards and in the countryside
Familiar in their appearance and their song
You hear and see them once you never again get them wrong

A November Spring Day

A beautif ul and sunny November Spring day
In the mostly blue sky just a few clouds of gray
The balmy air full of the buzzing of bush flies and bees
On a weather temperature high for the day of a pleasant twenty degrees
Such a beautiful day even for the time of year
Nature's birds in song such a joy for to hear
After the recent rain the coastal countryside lush and green
And Nature at her finest is to be seen
A freshening breeze blowing uphill from the bay
In the shade of the trees the contented cattle chewing their cuds lay
The recent showery weather has been Nature's gain
With such beautiful weather how can one complain
The coastal Moyne Shire today has a sunlit green face
It is so good to be living in such a beautiful place.

On Bernard O' Donoghue

From his first homeplace near Cullen he lives far away
Bernard O' Donoghue is a literary legend today
Far from Duhallow's green old countryside
In literature one who is famed Worldwide
One who is well worthy of literary note
He has earned his title of a major poet
Among the poets of the English speaking World of the twenty first century
His is a name that one often does see
A marvellous wordsmith who is widely known
One can say he is in a class of his own
Quite humble for one of such a great name
His marvellous poems are his ticket to fame
To the great Bernard O' Donoghue credit is only due
That poets are born to be poets happens to be true.

His Terrible Life

He complained to me of his terrible life
Of his mother who was mean to him and his dad who loved her as his wife
Where the deceased are at peace she now does lay
One of those who is beyond all of life's cares today

His mother like all of the deceased herself cannot defend
Though a mother is supposed to be our greatest friend
But even a bad mother in life gave us a start
In your very existence she played a huge part

To hear people ageing complaining of how they were treated bad
In their younger years by their mum or their dad
For them to say the least i do feel a bit sad
When i hear them tell of the tough times they have had

His mum whom he says was mean to him is now at peace
From life's cares for all of us a final release
By what he says she gave him and his dad who loved her as his wife
Some tough times though she did give him his gift of life

The Judgmental

Since in their words they enjoy putting others down
They are not among the popular people of their side of the town
Judgmental people never win a humanity prize
Since those doing it tough in life they like to criticize

The people who create for themselves needless foes
Humanity is comprised of all sorts one suppose
Of judgmental people the Human World would be better without
In them huge room for improvement there is not any doubt

Since in their comparing of people they help to uphold the social divide
Far too many of the judgmental sort Worldwide
They clearly do not believe on a fair go for all
And in some of their uitterances they seem rather small

In their words disrespectful to some one can say
For the upholding of class distinction some part they does play
For the betterment of humanity they never plant any seed
And of any more of their sort the Human World not in need.

No Pride At All

It seems like human created Global Warming is out of control
Every attack on Mother Earth is a wound to Nature's soul
More burning of fossil fuels human greed for money taking it's toll
And more damage from a resource of Mother Earth who feeds us the burning of coal
What us humans do to Mother Earth to our own selves we do
For our abuse of the one who feeds us all bad Karma will be our due
Our abuse of our Earth Mother is to all of our shame
For their poverty the children of the future will have us to blame
Mother Earth it does seem is suffering due to human greed
Of more human friends it is clear she is of in need
Extinction for may wild species is nearing by the day
What we do to our Earth Mother to our own selves we do only true to say
Despite our human achievements and they have not been small
In our abuse of our Earth Mother there is no pride at all.

On The Race That Stops A Nation

The race that stops a Nation it was run today
In Flemington Melbourne on the first Tuesday of November the power of money on display
The connections and punters who backed the winner celebrating the Melbourne Cup has been won
And congratulations are in order for a job well done
That horse racing is for the wealthy is only true to say
In thoroughbred racing it has always been this way
At Flemington racecourse on Melbourne Cup day no homeless person there
That money speaks every language is relevant to everywhere
In thoroughbred racing more than most things wealth and affluence is on show
The Melbourne Cup day just one example why the social gap does grow
At Flemington racecourse on Cup day not one homeless person in sight
They will not be celebrating on Melbourne Cup night
For the wealthy and famous just another big day out
That money speaks all languages there can be little doubt.

Poor Joe

Of late life has been so sad for poor Joe
On Saturday evening he feels he has nowhere to go
Like starting his car and going for a drive
One of the things he used to do when his darling Kate was alive

A great grandfather Kate to him she was the great love of his life
For fifty years they lived as man and wife
Of cancer last year she passed away
Still grieving for her he thinks of her every day

That love outlives the grave is not a lie
He did not stop loving Kate on the day she did die
In fifty years of marriage love between them did grow
How it feels to love and be loved he is one who does know

In his early eighties he lives on his own
And of far happier days in life he is one who has known
True love it does not have a use by date
He feels lucky to have loved and be loved by Kate

Gray haired and balding his better days in the past
Happiness until death with few ever does last
Joe celebrated his eightieth birhday in July
With memories of Kate in happier times gone by.

Love And Kindness

Honours and prizes you do not need to win
To make the Human World better to live in
Love and kindness do reign overall
Though many who have them their names never on a memorial wall
A poor person in many ways the financially wealthiest person in the town
Who never does help the financially down
One of the worst sort of poverty is poverty of mind
A flaw that is prevalent in the self centered kind
Generous people their own praises never does sing
Self praise one can say is a narcissistic thing
Those who do help people of helping in need
For their future good Karma are planting the seed
They may be admired for their wealth in their community
But they are poor indeed those of mind poverty.

A Stranger In Town

A stranger in town none knew him by sight
The quietest person in the local pub last night
A stranger in town a few of him did say
He must just have arrived from a town far away
The one person in the pub to anyone else there not known
He sat by the counter drinking a beer on his own
Perhaps in his sixties of hair silver gray
One who was not in town for a long stay
He sat on his own and his silence he did keep
Perhaps there is some truth in quiet waters are deep
Whilst the others around in groups were talking loud
He may have been the bright one among the noisy crowd
The self centered of self does like to boast
But the one who is silent of knowledge may have most.

Our Greatest Teacher

That we never stop learning is only true to say
And for us Nature does have a new lesson every day
And the more we learn of Nature the more we come to realize
That of her we do know little is this any surprise

That of Nature we have much to learn there can be little doubt
Of her flora and her fauna much remain unknown about
Those with minds open to knowledge are learning every day
And than Nature no greater teacher in truth one has to say

On the last day we spent in school our learning did not end
From life we never does stop learning why otherwise pretend
Those who love flora and fauna loves the Earth that feeds us too
And every day from Nature a lesson for me and you

Nature Mother Earth's goddess a friend of humanity
That she is our greatest teacher is how it seems to be
Her lessons are many and her secrets not few
And from her every day we do learn something new.

The Unsung

So many good  living people in every village, city and town
Who live as the unhonoured and will die as strangers to renown
They build the towns and cities take care of the sick and dying
Of their value to their communities there can be no denying
The wealthy and the famous so many do admire
And of singing their praises do never seem to tire
But the true heroines and heroes as unsung do remain
And why they are never honoured does seem hard to explain
The financial economy is  built on the good work that they do
Of recognition for their hard work they are long overdue
Without them there would not be billionaires only true to say
The people who do work hard for their every take home pay
In the betterment of humanity a huge part they do play
The unsung heroines and heroes of the World of today.

A Fickle Thing

That human friendships can be a fickle thing just happens to be so
Your best friend at the present may become your future foe
The glue that binds a friendship is often not hard to break
It can come unstuck quite quickly with self interest at stake
Last year they were the best of  friends and with their other friends did socialize
As is said of familiarity to contempt it can give rise
It was because of a failed business deal between them that mistrust did set in
And when big money is at stake friendship does seldom win
Nowadays they treat each other as strangers wheever they do meet
And pass each other in silence whilst walking on the street
The frioendship that was between them is a thing of the past
And only feelings of bitterness between them seem to last
Of the praises of companionship many may like to sing
But as is said of friendship it can be a fickle thing.

For All Of Us

For every bird there is a last song to sing
And for all of us there will be a final Spring
The fact is we are born as mortals and mortals do die
And as is said of fact it never does lie

The longest lived human life is not that long in time
We age rather quickly beyond our physical prime
On the day we do die life in the World will go on
And Nature will live when the life from all others has gone

On the babies born today time will become their foe
And her Seasons to Nature will come and will go
But Nature the one who does regenerate
On her there is never an expiry date

In the sky above Illowa that is blue and gray
The sun it is shining on this Novemeber day
And the birds they are singing on this evening in Spring
Such joy to the listener Nature's creatures does bring.

The War Veteran

A hero of a war that was fought far away
But if you talk of war to old Billy today
Life is all that does matter to you he will say
And you will not find life where dead war heroes lay

Eighty nine on his last birthday in May
The hair on his balding head is silver gray
A divorced great grandfather Liz his long term ex wife
Nowadays has a far younger man in her life

The war medals he won for bravery he put in the rubbish bin
He says that in war so called winners never win
How can there be a winner where so many human lives are lost
The price of any war comes at too high a cost

He wishes what he has experienced in war from his memory would fade
On war memorial day he does not go to the street parade
Where many of his friends died he did survive
And he feels happy and lucky just to be alive

A paid up member of the town's football club
He still enjoys a few beers in the local pub
Somewhat of a character well liked and well known
Quite close to his nineties he lives on his own

The Best You Can Be

Like all of us of your human flaws you will never be free
But you are trying to be the best that you can be
You live and let live and of you one can say
To make the World better to live in your part you do play
By helping those in need of help without asking for pay
And performing a good deed or two every day
You are generous and kind in your own humble way
And out of the public limelight you wish to stay
Though for being kind to others you believe credit is not your due
To your higher self you are trying to live as true
You may not be recognized for the good person you are
And on the so called success ladder you may not have climbed far
Though like all perfection as a person you may never achieve
The fruits of the good Karma you sow you will receive.

You Are Luckier Than Many Are

You are luckier than many are in truth one can say
So many poor people are hungry and homeless today
Yet you think that life on you is rather tough
Though you have never been homeless or hungry or never slept rough
With two lovely young daughters and a beautiful wife
And working in a well paying job you are doing well in life
And a nice home to live in yet you do complain
Of how hard you do work for so little gain
You like to tell others of how unlucky you are
And of how your lazy neighbour than you drives a bigger car
Comparisons as is said are the thief of joy
Any hope of happiness for yourself in your negative thoughts you destroy
The blessings life gives you sadly for yourself you do not count
Negativity to more negativity only does amount.

Duhallow In November

In the old rushy fields of brown hare and gray crow
Where Finnow the white river to the Blackwater flow
I grew to love Nature many Seasons ago
Long before time it did become my foe
As the flood is subsiding on a gray Autumn dawn
The salmon are swimming upriver to spawn
Though some of them fall victim to the poacher's gaff or spear
The call of Nature they answer once a year
With the cold and wet days of Winter with each day drawing near
In November the sky above the Boggeraghs of cloud seldom clear
From colder northern parts the redwing thrushes back again
Their arrival does herald the onset of frost, snow, wind and rain
The Blackwater swollen from heavy rain bank high does flow
In the flat fields of Duhallow in weather cold enough to snow.

Does The Soul In Our Mind Live On

The longest lived human life in time is not long only happens to be so
Like all other life forms we are born as mortals we come to life and from life go
Does the soul in our mind live on when life in our body die
If to this i said i knew the answer i would be telling a lie
If you believe in a hereafter this with me is okay
People to their opinions are entitled of them one can say
Though any deceased person i have known have not returned to me to tell
Of where people who lived honourable lives are rewarded in a land where angels dwell
Most of us have our opinions on life and death but the fact with us remain
That what happens to the soul post bodily death is beyond us to explain
Only know our mortal body wears out we become victims of time
And we do age rather quickly beyond our physical prime
No deceased person has come back to tell us of a land for the soul far away
From this World they were born into when they had lived their last day.

A Sad Sight To See

A sad sight to see on this November day
A black wallaby dead by the country roadway
A victim of a car or a truck ravens eating it's meat
In Nature some of the living the dead does eat
Black wallabies are not plentiful and on the roads some of them die
This theory that wild creatures are replaceable is based on a lie
Much of human progress it does seem is at wildlife's expense
Sadly most wild creatures are not born with good traffic sense
In a perfect World to live in all things would be right
Animals and birds dead on the roadway nowadays a common sight
For human progress always some price to pay
One black wallaby less in Victoria does seem sad to say
As food for the ravens by the roadway
Such sad things on our travels we see every day.

There Ought Not Be A Place

There are good and bad people in every race
And for racism in the Human World there ought not be a place
Of division it only helps to sow the seed
And is one thing humanity of is not in need
Far too many racists in the World of today
But then suppose it was always this way
And perhaps what always was always will be
Of racists and racism humanity may never be free
The people who do leave humanity down
The racists Worldwide in every village and city and town
Racists are the dregs of humanity in truth one can say
It would be a far better World to live in without them today
Us humans all came from a similar seed
And red is the blood we all shed when we bleed.

Far Superior To Me

On those many look on as ordinary only beauty she does see
In many ways she is far superior to me
Since others she feels no desire to impress
And she is not in the race for material success

You will never see her sort where the big egos are
And on the material ladder to success she will never climb far
Not the sort of person the masses admire
Since to impress others she feels no desire

But every day she does perform some good deed
And willingly help anyone who of helping is in need
And though her name will never appear on a memorial wall
Lack of recognition for her for her kindness does not bother her at all

Any prizes for her generosity of spirit she may never win
Her sort helps to make the World for poor people better to live in
Not among the tribes who seek worldly renown
But the soul of every village and city and town

Of anyone unkind things she never does say
And she performs a good deed or two every day
A person of great kindness and generosity
And in her ways one who is superior to me.

In The Eyes Of The Beholder

The one that is beautiful to me may not be so to you
That it is in the eyes of the beholder seems true
I know of one who does not have a physically attractive wife
But he says of her she is the love of my life

Physical beauty is only skin deep as the wise one did say
A saying that to many does remain relevant today
In different eyes difference we do see
In many ways we are individuals would you not agree

Not every young male is physically attracted to the most attractive young woman in the town
Though she draws admiring glances on ths street as she walks up and down
She may well win many buit she won't win them all
An old truism that does seem well worthy of recall

I know of an elderly woman she is caring and kind
The beauty in her is in her beautiful mind
The beauty in her the eyes cannot behold
But it is a rare beauty that never grows old

It is something that most people seem to realize
That we see beauty in our individual eyes
What is beautiful to you may not be so to me
This is how it is and how it always will be.

Though My Worth As A Rhymer

Though my worth as a rhymer i have reason to doubt
No shortage of things for to write rhymes about
The rhymes keep on coming to me in notebook i pen them down
But never for money or literary renown
For many years i have been a rhyming buff
Just one of those people who pens reams of stuff
I used to love reading rhymes as a young boy
And writing them nowadays is a thing i enjoy
As a young man i daydreamed of becoming a poet
One looked on as worthy of literary note
But daydreams are just that and seldom come true
And literary fame in life is not my due
It is something i have been doing since my physical prime
And i am one who has become a victim of time.

A Relative Thing

He owns the biggest house in the wealthy neighbourhood
And many say in life that he has done good
Doubtless one of the wealthiest people in the town
His fame is far wider than local renown
In the businessess he own many people employed
His material achievements to him are a sense of pride
That he is one who is financially successful many would agree
Though he never does anything to alleviate local poverty
It is his sort are talked of  and written about
And his worth as a person so few seem to doubt
But not one poor person of the town he looks on as a friend
And only the wealthy to his lavish parties are invited to attend
He is one whose praises so many does sing
But then suppose success can be a relative thing.
