The Person You Admire

Since just to be like her or him you do so desire
It is true that you are the person you admire
By their achievements you they do impress
As you do relate to their form of success
The person you admire thinks in ways like you
And this is only saying what happens to be true
In those you admire yourself you does find
You are who they are in your own mind
We may be all individuals but in truth one can say
That we are also quite tribal in our own way
But the person you admire most you too happen to be
Though many with this would choose to disagree
And since just to be like her or him you do so desire
It is true that you are the person you admire.

That Beauty Is Only Skin Deep

That beauty is only skin deep as a truism remain
The meaning that is in this it's own self does explain
You may not be attractive to look at and years past your physical prime
But it is true of inner beauty that it does not fade in time
Is it telling you something you do not already know
That you cannot be a beautiful person if you do not have the inner glow
Beauty is a thing that lives in the beautiful mind
And it does never find a home in the narcissistic kind
The most beautiful person in our neighbourhood she is eighty three
A compassionate and caring person imbued with empathy
Those of inner beauty to their higher selves are true
And they are marvellous people for to give them their due
Beauty is only skin deep as it does come from within
And those with inner beauty makes a better World to live in.

This Liking And DislikingThis

This liking and disliking is a human mind game
And the people who don't like me of them i feel the same
And the people who do like me in  return i like indeed
For to be liked by others in all of us this need
It does happen in politics and life in general every day
This liking and disliking is a mind game people with each other play
Of the praises of those who like us we feel happy to sing
This liking and disliking does seem a tribal thing
The people who do not like me i do not like to meet
We pass each other in silence when we meet on the street
Without even a smile between us we pass each other by
And without reason we do not like each other which makes me wonder why
Everyone cannot like each other but in truth this cannot be
For how can i really like you when you do not like me?

A Scottish Migrant

Far from where he first looked on the bright lamp of day
In this far southern Land he may well stay
Until the reaper of lives from him claims the living breath
Each day we live brings us nearer to the day of our death
His strong Scottish accent with him does remain
A thing of the past that he does retain
As well as the memories that are fading fast
But then few things in life ever does seem to last
He often visits the grave of his daughter and wife
The day they died in a motor car accident the worst day of his life
His daughter in her late teens then his wife forty five
Many months of grieving he had to survive
But all of this happened twenty years ago
And that time can be a healer happens to be so.

It Does Seem A Sad Thing

It does seem a sad thing for to have to say
That the gap between the wealthy and the poor keeps widening by the day
A lot of poor people homeless aand hungry and sleeping rough at night
In the twenty first century this does not seem right

Even in so called wealthy Countries many in poverty
And what is today always used to be
So much poverty on the poor side of every big city and town
And many unemployed and financially down

Though their thinking on humanity to the higher self  does belong
Those who claim all people are equal have got it all wrong
Equal in a moral sense but this to little amount
In a World where money only seems to count

It is true about poverty it leads people to crime
And many poor people for robbery in jail serving time
And that money speaks every language as a truism remain
The meaning in this it's own self does explain.

It Is Not Your Personal Achievements

It is not your personal achievements or the prizes you win
That makes the Human World better to live in
Your praises the impressionable may happily sing
But your personal achievements are just that a personal thing
You may be a heroine or a hero to many in the town
And many all too willing to honour you in your renown
But it's your personal achievements you only celebrate
Since a better life for yourself you only help to create
There is more to living of life than for your own gain
This is an old saying that as a truism remain
So many people in the promotion of self are sowing the seed
Yet they do little for humanity those who only serve their own need
Those into promotion of self only in truth one can say
Spiritually from their higher selves are far away.

Old Toby

When he thinks of the happy times that he has had
Old Toby the brown shetland pony he feels a bit sad
Kathy the girl who used to ride him her days of riding him has outgrown
She now has far bigger horses to ride of her own

Alone and feeling lonely in the paddock in self confidence he does lack
He felt so important with her on his back
It is nice to feel wanted as Toby is all too aware
Happy moments in his life nowadays all too rare

Kathy now a young woman him no longer wishes to know
She has won many dressage events at many a horse show
And Toby now for her just a faded memory
Of when she was younger and the what used to be

When ever on her big horse his paddock she rides by
He neighs out hello to her but she does not reply
Which leaves poor Toby wondering to why him she does not seem to recognize
That she no longer needs him he does not realize

Alone in his fenced acre paddock with his memories
He rests out of the sun in the shade of the trees
Old Toby on his last birthday he turned fifteen
And his better days in life he surely has seen

Grey Shrike Thrushes

The grey shrike thrushes have such a beautiful song
Once heard you will never again get it wrong
Their beautiful melodious whistling so flute like and clear
Among Australia's finest minstrels of the Spring of the year

Not the prettiest to look at birds of feathers mostly grey
And they are not plentiful one does not see or hear them every day
They are never to be seen in flocks and are often on their own
But they are not shy of people and to many are well known

In cup shaped nest of bark and grass in hollow of stump or fork of tree
The female lay white brown dotted eggs of four or two or three
In appearance and song unmistakeable from where trees are they are never far away
They eat worms and inscets and frogs on the ground and whistle to greet the day

From once you see and hear them you will know them again
Their beautiful flute like whistling in memory you retain
Unlike many species of birds of humans they are not that shy
They allow you get quite close to them before to the trees they fly.

Those Who Look For Beauty

Those who look for beauty only beauty does see
It is in the eyes of the beholder would you not agree
Our different ways of thinking makes us more interesting is how it seems to be
And of our likes and our dislikes we will never be free
But how boring we would be for want to it of a better name
If in our thinking we all in ways thought the same
Nothing would change things as they were would stay
Those who instigate change create a better World to live in today
Those who see beauty in most everything
Change in their thinking for the better does bring
Those who cannot see the beauty around them every day
Mostly look at things in a negative way
Those who look for beauty are lucky indeed
And of more of their sort humanity is in need.

Political Change In Ireland

That change can be a good thing only true to say
And the changes keep happening in the Ireland of today
Fianna Fail and Fine Gael civil war rivals in government together this seems a bit odd
And in political harmony like peas in a pod

Partnered in government by the Green Party strange times in Ireland indeed
Though parties with different ideas in government can sow the seed
Of better times for a Country's population in general and for the environment as well
For the term of their new Coalition Government one can only wish Ireland well

Coalition governments of parties of different ideologies change for the better can bring
To any nation and this is a good thing
Politics can make for strange bedfellows and an old foe can become a friend
And the new Government in Ireland is formed of an interesting blend

That political change is happening in Ireland is obviously clear
And that old political foes have become friends only good news to hear
And hopefully for the people of Ireland better times are ahead
That hope springs eternal truer words never said.

In A Fair Human World

 In C O V I D-19 it does  seem sad to say
The gap between those who have and those who have not
on the increase by the day
And the wealthy getting wealthier and more people in poverty
And a sharp increase Worldwide between people of inequality
In a World where so many people are doing it quite tough
And a minority of money have far more than enough
And millions are homeless and sleeping rough tonight
In this age of so called enlightenment this does not seem right
For some to grow wealthier others have to lose
And losing is something anyone does not choose
It is much the same in every village and city and town
For the few who are very wealthy many who are financially down
In a fair Human World this never would be
But nothing is fair would you not agree.

Those Who Can Laugh Easily

Of doctor prescribed anti depressant drugs they are not in need
Those who can laugh easily they are lucky indeed
They seem free of worry that gives rise to stress
Those who enjoy laughter know of happiness
Some people do take themselves too seriously
So lucky are they who can laugh easily
Since they are the people who seem worry free
And always leave you of them with a good memory
Since they are the people of most people of wish to know
As they carry in them the bright inner glow
Those who laugh every day new friends do win
A World without laughter would be a sad World to live in
Laugh and the World laughs with you as a truism remain
The meaning in this it's own self does explain.

Tim

It can be said of Tim his wild oats he has sown
But all of the children he has helped to father to him remain as unknown
The seeds of his pleasure other men to adulthood helped to rear
That he has fathered children of he is aware
Tim in his late sixties the years on him show
A major heart attack has left him walking slow
For many years he has not had a woman and he has never had a wife
All he has are memories of his better days in life
An itinerant pipe layer when in his life's prime
Though this is going back many Seasons in time
Back in the days when his hair was light brown
When he did have a woman in every town
Though his health is not good he never looks sad
And just to be living he seems rather glad.

Sooty Oystercatchers

With red feet, red eyes and long red bills medium sized waders of the ocean shore
In pairs or small family parties often three or four
As sooty oystercatchers they are known by name
To look different from other waders their one claim to fame
Their sooty name comes from their feathers shiny black
And in beauty they are birds who do not lack
Like all other oystercatchers with their long blade like bills they open shells and mollusca for their meat
That to their taste buds are a tasty treat
Not shore waders one does see every day
On scrape for nest on sand two or three yellowish dark spotted eggs the female lay
The rocky shores they do like to frequent
And in searching for food between the rocks most of their time by them is spent
They have a pleasant musical piping song
And to the oystercather family of shorebirds they do belong.

It Is True

It is true what is said about uni degrees
That they do not grow on the bushes and trees
And though knowledge is never a weight on the mind
As a person it does not make you more compassionate and kind

A well educated career professional may draw a good pay
And be looked up to by many in the World of today
But education may not make a better person of you
And this only does happen for to be true

For generosity, kindness, empathy or compassion no degrees it does seem
And these do not bring you high public esteem
Perhaps this is something of you already know
It is a gift of the mind to have the inner glow

Education no weight on the mind as the wise one did say
And no shortage of well educated people in the World of today
And though the admiration of the masses they  well may win
Many of them not helping to make a better World to live in.

All He Has Now

It is obvious that time it has become his foe
He is not the man he was Seasons ago
The hair on his balding head as white as snow
And the legs that did run fast are now walking slow
Back in the days when his hair was light brown
He was the most famous athlete in the town
Against the best runners in the Country with success he did compete
A three in a row National eight hundred metres champion athlete
An octogenarian great grandfather his wife in the cemetery lay
And he is one who has known of a far better day
On his last birthday in March he turned eighty three
He is just a shadow of the man that he used to be
Back in the days when his legs could run fast
All he has now are memories of the past.

The Mother She Stands By

Though they are in prison for to serve their time
And they have a record against them for crime
And something unlawful by them has been done
The mother she stands by her daughter and son
Though the seeds of bad Karma in their crimes they have sown
The mother her children does never disown
And in their time of need remain as their truest friend
Her children the mother will always defend
Though her adult children to others have done wrong
In their mother the love of them does remain strong
Of them any bad thing she never does say
For as long as she will live loyal to them she will stay
Though the seeds of bad Karma by them has been sown
The mother her children will never disown.

It Is One Of Those Days

It is one of those days that you feel you cannot win
But the voice of hope in you says do not give in
To negative feelings look at life in a positive way
Tomorrow for you may be a better day
You are not the only person in the town
Who is having a bad day and feeling mentally down
No point on for yourself feeling this sad
Tomorrow for you it may not be so bad
No money like Autumn leaves in the wind blowing down the street
Life's challenges most people often do meet
Sad people lacking in the inner glow
Are not the sort of people many of wish to know
The tiny voice of hope in you within
Whispers to you to negative feelings do not give in.

The Baked Potato Seller

Many claim for the increase in obesity  among people in the town the baked potato seller is to blame
But he vigorously defends himself saying he is not one who should feel any shame
For selling to poor people food they can afford to buy
That in his character he mounts a good defense of himself none can deny

The people who buy his baked potatoes with calories added cannot afford healthy organic food
From eating well their poverty line financial; income them surely does exclude
And people for to live must eat as we know all too well
So why do many blame the baked potato seller for the cheap food he does sell?

But the baked potato seller has lots of money in the bank
And he is one who is climbing in the town's social rank
And when asked for the reason of his financial success he is rather frank
He says it is the poor people who buy my baked potatoes for this i must thank

The baked potato seller is a great success in his life
He has two healthy children a new home and a beautiful wife
Though many see fit to verbally put him down
As one of the reasons for the increase in numbers of obese people in the town.

Forget About Dying

Forget about dying and your end of life plan
For the longest lived human life in time not a long span
Three score and ten years on average a few years more for a woman than it is for a man
So live for as long as you possibly can
Live for there may not be a life for the soul after bodily death
It may well die with your body on your life's final breath
Try to make the most of your every living day
For time on your life ever ticking away
Life the greatest gift that any human being does possess
Can be shortened in some by worry and stress
The surplus money you accumulate enjoy whilst you may
You cannot take it with you when you have lived your last day
Try to live as happy time does tick on fast
And each day you live one nearer to your last.

My Own Little Stories

I do write a lot but i do not write well
But i have my own little stories to tell
Of people i know of and sometimes do meet
A rhymer like i am on every street
I used to daydream that i might become a poet
And be looked on by the literary critics as one worthy of note
But most amateur writers the critics ignore
For every well known writer a thousand unknown or more
I am just one of those who loves penning rhyme
It is something i have been doing since my physical prime
There are many people like me in every village and city and town
Who will die as they live as strangers to literary renown
And though my better years in the forever gone
For as long as i can do i will keep rhymimg on.

Since In her Younger Years

Since in her younger years anyone not good enough to become her partner or wife
In her sixties on her own without a man or a woman in her life
She does not have children and some say she is gay
But this only gossip and gossip can be hearsay
In her mid sixties but she does not look that old
Her hair dyed light brown she is attractive to behold
She has her own small business and is financially doing well
And most see this as a story of success to tell
Her own big home to live in and an expensive new car
On the material ladder of success she is one who has climbed far
Honest with her feelings to be down to earth she does not pretend
And a poor person she would never befriend
Physically better days in life of she has known
In her big red brick house she lives on her own.

Be The Man

Though on the ladder of material success you have climbed far
Be the man that your dog thinks that you are
You are a leader and knowledgeable and wise
And quite a hero in your dog's eyes
You are a great fellow in your dog's mind
Quite a marvellous man and selfless and kind
The greatest human being by nature designed
To your human flaws your dog is mentally blind
At least you can try your best for to be
Close to the person your dog in you see
Your dog looks up to you as a great
And welcomes you home every day at the gate
Though on the ladder of success you have climbed far
Be the man that your dog thinks that you are.

You Can Only Live To Be

You can only live to be the best you can be
And though there is no known prize for honesty
Good people live in an honourable and honest way
And perform a good deed or two every day
It is not on how long but on how well you live
Most good people believe that to recieve one must give
Life is a gift we ought not to abuse
And for our own benefit only we ought not to use
If you sow the seeds of bad Karma bad Karma in return you will receive
On such a life philosophy one can only believe
Many people admire others for their material success
Money and the power that goes with it most peopl;e always impress
But those who live for self only from their higher selves further away
Than those who perform good deeds every day

Coronavirus Or C O V I D-19

From it's origins in Wuhan in China it has spread Worldwide
And in it's human hosts it does silently hide
Not a Country in the World to where it has been
This deadly pandemic known as Coronavirus or C O V I D- 19
Millions of people by it affected and over a million have died
That it has become the World's greatest killer of human beings cannot be denied
Yet it has travelled the World silently and unseen
This pandemic known as Coronavirus or C O V I  D-19
It has been said it has spread Worldwide from a market in Wuhan
From a horseshoe bat that infected a woman or a man
A pandemic that gives rise to death, grief and tears
And many survivors of it will have ill health for years
Due to it we live in a changed World today
And hopefully  a vaccine for it may not be far away.

The Migrant

In his first hometown today his to many would be a stranger's face
The fellow who has lived in many a place
But after a few beers in at the pub he talks of the past
And of his first hometown the memories in him does last
The accent he was born into is with him today
And for as long as he does live in him it will stay
It was the wanderlust in him that brought him far south
Of the fields of the badger and waterways of the brown trout
But of the lust of the wander he will never be free
Far more of the World he is hoping to see
Though he is one from his first hometown who has travelled far and wide
The nostalgia in him it has not fully died
With a few beers in at the pub he talks of his first homeplace
Where to many today his would not be a known face.

Alexis

Alexis for her love of Nature in her locality well known
And for caring for sick and injured wildlife Karma's good seed by her sown
To her children a good mother and to her husband a good wife
And any spare time she has she spends caring for sick and injured wildlife
An attractive looking woman Perhaps in her late forties free of guile and conceit
And one who is always a pleasure to meet
About her she has such an amiable way
Even strangers she meet she greets with a good day
People like she is so good of to know
As she is one who does have the bright inner glow
And she is a friend of wildlife and they need every friend
Since many species of Nature's creatures endangered and extinction for them is the end
Sadly a shortage of people like Alexis in the World of today
And Nature in need of more friends like her in truth one can say.

On Chuck Feeney

Not all billionaires are self centered only true to say
Mostly in donations to charities Chuck Feeney has given all of his billions in money away
Eight billion in U S dollars mostly anonymously he did donate
Now here is a man that we should celebrate

On his eighty ninth year in San Fransico in a simple apartment he lives with Helga his wife
Chuck Feeney is one who has led by good exaample in life
To so many worthy causes and people Worldwide he has been a good friend
All of his eight billion in money the man did spend

What a difference to humanity this man has made
Yet for him there will never be a parade
Those who does give without expecting in return to receive
Has reached their higher selves one has to believe

Chuck Feeney of the needs of others is aware
And people like he is in the World are so rare
All of his billions to worthy causes he did give
And in his old age a simple lifestyle he does live

He has made a huge difference to people Worldwide
True greatness of the man cannot be denied
Respect to him for his extreme generosity one only can pay
There ought to be a Worldwide Chuck Feeney day.

Arrogant Young Males

Young arrogant males do grow older but they never seem to grow wise
They may think they are quite clever but little do they realize
That from life they have much to learn but having this said we do all
But with an air of superiority about them in their thinking they seem rather small
Young arrogant males self deluded since they do truly believe
That they are a gift to women in this themselves they only deceive
Since many women do not like their sort arrogant males for them not a turn on
But it can be said of the male kind the days of the humble long gone
Arrogant young males in the many and those of big egos not rare
That they are not as great as they think they are they do not seem to be aware
And most of them as they age do not grow wiser this is how it seems to be
And the arrogant are not in a minority in the twenty first century
And as for the young down to earth males their female admirers are not in the few
Many young women do seem to like them and this is not saying what is new.

No Need For You

No need for you in your own words for to put yourself down
There are plenty who do this for you on your side of the town
The judgmental of the World are not of the few
And this is not saying any thing that is new
As you are not a cocky person it does seem
You could do with a boost to your self  esteem
By convincing yourself you are not good enough
You are only making life on yourself far more tough
Since you are one who of self never does boast
To you and your sort i would gladly call for a toast
Though you could do with far less of humility
At least of a swollen ego you are free
And this in itself is not a bad thing
Though it is mostly the praises of the egotistical the masses do sing.

Willy Wagtails

From human habitations never far away
Black and white small birds one does see every day
Of people they do not seem at all that shy
Willy wagtails or black and white fantails the names they are known by

In defense of their territory great colurage they do show
I have seen them mob larger birds such as a magpie or a crow
As they try to drive them from their territory sometimes they succeed
For their size they are courageous and quite fearless indeed

Australia's most common breed of fantail
One often does see them wagging their long black tail
Some with knowledge of birds say the reason for this is from the grass to flush flies
And devour them as from hiding they rise

In cup shaped nest of fibre and dried grass felted with spider web on fork of small tree
The female lay white eggs with brown dots of two or three
Against predators the male and the female their nest site defend
And any other species of bird that they do not treat as a friend

They do have a recognizable brief little chattering song
And once seen and once heard them you will never again get wrong
In Spring they often sing at night and some refer to them as the Australian nightingales
The black and white fantails better known as willy wagtails.

It Will Not Matter To You

It will not matter to you when life from you has gone
If memories good or bad of you in others live on
Just do make the most of your every day
And from those you can help do not turn away
If there is a god this god will judge you
Not what you done for yourself but what for others you did do
That material possessions and money only useful to the living it's own self does explain
It is not your ticket to heaven your Earthly material gain
In death your Earthly possessions you leave behind
You may not get to heaven if you live self centered and unkind
If you have a god you kneel to for to pray
When you die this god will judge you how you live day by day
Not by your Earthly achievements or your social rank
Or by how much money you have in a bank.

Australia

Why so many love her not hard to understand
Australia for her flora and fauna quite an amazing Land
Home to the people of the Dreamtime
Their ancestors have lived in Australia for quite a long time
Home to many species of eucalypt trees
The Land of temperate, sub tropical and tropical climates of varying degrees
The most southerly peopled Land in the World of today
From the nearest Country Australia is far away
Home to marsupials, moneterenes and megapodes too numerous to name
Her amazing and unique wildlife one of her many claims to Worldwide fame
A vast Land not over populated by people of the far south
And one of the World's most amazing Countries does go without doubt
Australia the Land that is so old  in time
The inspiration for the writers of song, story and rhyme.

On The Passing Of Teresa Murphy

Sad news out of Millstreet to read of today
Teresa Murphy nee Corcoran from life has passed away
To her children a good mother and to the late Paddy Murphy a devoted wife
She was a good person who lived an honourable life

In the West End of Millstreet Town she had lived for many years
And her family and many friends would have farewelled her in tears
In Manchester in England far from her first hometown she died
For any of us from death there is nowhere to hide

An octogenarian one of Millstreet's own
She died far from where she was well loved and well known
The town where she did have many a good friend
So few of us know where our life's journey for us will end

That we are born to die is quite obviously clear
And the passing of a good person is always sad to read of or of hear
Hope her parting from life for her was a painless release
The good person Teresa Murphy may she rest in peace.

In A World Of Difference

There is quite a difference between good and great
And even more so between dislike and hate
And there is a difference between evil and bad
And the difference is immense between happy and sad
There is a difference beween a cafe and a pub
And there is a difference between a fellowship and a club
And there is a difference beween woman and man
Though they may be of the one race and clan
For in thinking they can be as different as night is from day
As they look at life in a different way
Those who refer to a koala as a koala bear does not make for much sense
Since between a koala and a true bear the difference is immense
And there is quite a difference between known and fame
In a World of difference few things seem the same.

One Does Wonder

Like the leaves of late Autumn that to earth does fall
Or the tiny ground insect that is born to crawl
Like them we are born to eventually die
Is life for the human soul post bodily death a belief based on a lie?

Many believe in a god and a world in the sky
Where good and bad souls with wings to does fly
Yet any deceased person as of yet has not come back to tell
Of another life for the soul or of a heaven or hell

Whatever we achieve in life we end as the same
Death does not differentiate between those in poverty and those of wealth and fame
The longest lived human life in time is not a long span
On average a few years more for a woman than it is for a man

Time on our existence ever ticking away
Babies are born and people die every day
Like all other creatures from the great to the small
One does wonder what life is about at all.

A Beautiful Person

A beautiful person beauty she only see
And of negative thinking she is one who is free
The beauty she possesses is in her mind
She is loving and generous and caring and kind
An octogenarian widowed great grandmother her hair silver grey
She is one who performs good deeds every day
She is one who has in her the bright inner glow
People like her of a privilege to know
Always helping the mentally and financially down
Perhaps the kindest person on her side of the town
People who have known her for years of her does say
That even as a young person she was this way
Every day she does sow Karma's good seed
And of far more of her sort the Human World is in need.

What We Do To Our Earth Mother

What we do to our Earth Mother to our own selves we do
This applies to all people including me and you
The future generations for our mistakes will pay
For the abuse of the one who feeds us all true to say
The Earth who supplies us with our every need
Is suffering due to our unnecessary greed
For material things and for our financial gain
That in our lives we sow the seeds of the future it's own self does explain
And of the needs of the Earth that does feed us too few seem aware
Many species of wildlife are becoming rare
When we abuse our Earth Mother we abuse our best friend
On our behalf not a good idea why otherwise pretend
Of many more friends Mother Earth is in need
The future generations of people will pay for our greed.

To Us Only Belong

As individuals our memories good and bad to us only belong
And to wherever we go to with us they go along
And of our achievements to others most of us like to tell
Since to create a good impression of the self does serve us well

Though most people what they hear seem to believe
Some in the stories of their achievements have been known to deceive
A good impression of themselves they like to create
And in the stories of their suiccesses they exaggerate

And since most people like to live with a good name
Few like to tell others of their moments of shame
It is so true that many have secrets to hide
Since we do not like to talk of things that have dented our pride

For as long as the gift of memory we retain
Our good and our bad moments in us remain
Your past is a thing you cannot leave behind
It lives in the memory bank of your mind.

The Beauty In Nature

The beauty in Nature to view it is free
It is all around you and it is all around me
A beauty from us never too far away
That we do see on our walks every day
Nature the jewel on Mother Earth's crown
Lives in the parks of every city and town
Wherever there are grass and trees her creatures reside
Her beauty from us she never does hide
Nature she does have ways of her own
And so much about her remains as unknown
Her wonders are many and her secrets not few
And every day of her we learn something new
And even students of Nature have come to realize
That there is more to her than meets the eyes.

On A Morning In September

On a morning in September on the fourth week of Spring
The wild birds of Nature chirp, whistle and sing
The countryside looking healthy and green after the recent rain
Nature at her most vibrant becomes Mother Earth's gain
Though there is a certain coolness in the freshening breeze
New leaves are budding on the deciduous trees
The cattle and sheep on young grass gaining weight by the day
And much warmer weather cannot be far away
Greeness is abundant in the September showers
And Nature brings to the trees and the paddocks her leaves, blossoms and flowers
In Nature in September her favourite colour is green
And natural beauty is everywhere to be seen
The wild birds of song so pleasant to hear
On what is a beautiful time of the year.

The Ordinary Man

He loves his children and he loves his wife
The ordinary man leads an ordinary life
Never in the pub with a community tribe drinking beer and laughing loud
Though ordinary not one of the ordinary crowd

The ordinary man does not talk about money or politics or football
And those who know of him say he is not normal at all
To any community organization he never subscribe
He lives as condemned for not being part of a tribe

On the community honour or shame he never will bring
The ordinary man he does his own thing
And though to live an honourable life he does try his best
Most in the community tribes with him and his sort not impressed

The ordinary man is not anyone's judge
And others of their successes does never begrudge
Of any ties to a tribe he is one who is free
And he is not a leader or never wishes to be

But those in need of a friend a friend in him does find
For the ordinary man is extraordinary kind
And though looked on as strange to many on his side of the town
He never does ignore the financially down.

A Human World For Winners

In a Human World where winners only seem to count
And to be a good loser to little seems to amount
The names of big winners in time only live on
In this respect it is the same nowadays as it was in Seasons long gone
Not everyone can be a winner only true for to say
Far more losers than winners in the World every day
Humanity works in this way it does seem
It is only the winners are held in high esteem
But the words of a wise one worthy of recall
Without losers we could not have winners at all
And though losing is a thing that anyone does not choose
For one to win big many do have to lose
That it is a Human World for winners the fact does remain
And one has to lose for another to gain.

I Too Might Feel The Same

One ought not to envy the wealthy and widely known
Since these people never have lives of their own
And for their swollen egos one them hardly can blame
If i were one of them i too might feel the same
The admiration of the impressionable would perhaps go to my head
In the egotistical mind humility is dead
I feel lucky in ways for to pen doggerel
Were i a celebrated writer perhaps my ego would swell
And feelings of self importance should not hold much appeal
At least not to me of this only say how i feel
Leave them have their money and leave them have their fame
I would rather live as a not well known name
Than live my life as one of the narcissistic kind
Since the admiration of others can crowd humility from the mind.

May He Rest In Peace Now

Though respect to him for his bravery one ought for to pay
One wonders why he went to the Land far away
Had he stayed at home he would be living today
Only earth worms do live where dead heroes do lay
He died as a young man in his physical prime
Long before Nature decided for him it was time
For to leave the World in a less violent way
Real guns as is said are dangerous with for to play
He fell under gunfire in a distant Land
Why most young men go to war not hard to understand
For a sense of adventure not expecting to die
But those who glamourize war are broadcasting a lie
So many years of living of him should have been ahead
May he rest in peace now with all of the war dead.

Your God Within

Believing in your god of the Universe will not make you a better person or cleanse your mind of sin
If you are one who exists without your god within
For the god within keeps open to light the windows of the mind
And those who have their god within are generous, loving and kind
You may be one without a god to for to kneel to pray
But this does not make you a bad person in any sort of a way
In fact for those doing it tough you are one who does care
And of the needs of others you are quite aware
For your future good Karma you plant the good seed
By willingly helping those of your help in need
You do not believe in a god in the sky
Yet that you live as a good person there is one reason why
In that you possess your god of the mind
And in the helping of others you are always willingly inclined.

Love Turned Upside Down

She is one he does not often see nor is she his source of delight
Their twenty  years of marriage ended in acrimony though for them it was love at first sight
Two daughters in their late teens is all in common now they share
Loves that stand the test of time as ever seems so rare
Whenever they meet on the street to each other they never say good day
They ignore each other as strangers as they go on their way
To their friends about each other they never have nice things for to say
Those whose marriage ends in bitterness as friends for life don't stay
Love's farewell in anger does have a bitter end
He once called her the love of his life his greatest ever friend
There are many stories like theirs Worldwide in every town
It is said that hatred between former lovers is love turned upside down
If ever they are walking in the park or on the street
They pass each olther in silence whenever they do meet.

The Young Faces Of Your Past

On looking back the long gone years time seems to have gone fast
And all you have are the memories of the young faces of your past
The girls and boys you grew up with in your first hometown far away
You often wonder about them where they may be today?

The young faces of your long gone past you often visualize
Since you last met them face to face there has been many a sunrise
Some of them like you migrated and some at home did stay
And time leaves it's mark on everyone as someone wise did say

You made your own way in the World as every migrant do
And do your young friends of the past today remember you?
On their lives journey just like you new friendships they have made
And only the memories of what was in time don't seem to fade

The World has changed since you were young time with it change does bring
And change that is for the betterment is only a good thing
In the town where you grew to adulthood today your's may be a stranger's face
In surroundings once quite dear to you there you may feel out of place

Life's journey ends for all of us on some future night or day
And some of the young friends you grew up with at peace forever lay
The young friends of your first hometown they are no longer young
And as well as your memories the only thing you have left of your past is the accent on your tongue.

Those With Love In Them

Those with love in them have a great gift indeed
And of more of their sort the Human World is in need
The surplus of love in them with others they do share
Whilst those without love in them of their own needs only aware
Of the praises of love do feel happy to sing
For in it's true form it is a beautiful thing
Those with love in them selfless in their way
And they perform a good deed or two every day
Where war is waged love it has died
Since the fact that love is never angry or violent cannot be denied
A World with more love would be better to live in
For harmony and peace it would be a big win
Those with love in them are generous and kind
And on the helping of others are always willingly inclined.

Everyone Is Replaceable

The famous and wealthy are dying every day
But life goes on without them in truth one can say
The one who first said everyone is replaceable some credit is due
For saying what is obviously so very true
A lot of people who thought they were irreplaceable in cemeteries lay
Yet life does go on without them today
Despite their wealth and celebrity status to time they lost out
And that life goes on without them does go without doubt
Those who think they are irreplaceable have got it all wrong
Since their sort of thinking to delusion belong
That death is the great equalizer as a truism remain
The meaning in this it's own self does explain
Death does not respect those of money and fame
And the monarch and pauper does treat as the same.

A Human World For Winners

In this Human World where so many people for success compete
In life every day some new challenge to meet
Survival of the fittest is how it seems to be
Humanity seems based on inequality
In a World where for every big winner many have to lose
And losing is something that anyone does not choose
That in most people a lack of money to unhappiness gives rise
For to say the least is not any surprise
There are winners and losers in the World every day
Suppose human life is designed for to work on this way
For every financially successful person in the twenty first century
There are many Worldwide living in poverty
When money or lack of it in a person's status such a huge part does play
It is a Human World for winners in truth one can say.

Jim From Cork City

In the local pub the Banks of my own lovely Lee he does sing
Jim who was raised in the glory days of Christy Ring
In the City of Cork by the River Lee
He first saw light of day in March nineteen fifty three

Without a son or a daughter or a partner or wife
He seems quite content in his batchelor life
He is in the pub almost every night
With a smile on his face he seems happy and bright

On a retirement pension in his late sixties his receding hair grey
He retired as a long distance truck driver this year in May
Often drove from from Melbourne via Sydney to Brisbane on freeways and highways up and down
And often slept in truck stops in his truck cab in many a country town

He may be physically ageing but his memory serves him well
Of his long distant travels he has many stories to tell
Among the truckie community he is wiodely known
There is truth in the saying of to each their own

Far north of Australia his journey in life began
The man may leave his Country but his Country does not leave the man
The accent of Cork City he does retain
Until the days he does die in him it will remain

A likeable fellow he has many a friend
In this southern Land his life's journey may end
At his happiest in the local pub in the hour of song
Where he often does lead in the sing along.

It Will Not Matter To You

It will not matter to you when your life's eulogy is read
If your name will live as one of the remembered dead
As one who is outlived by her or his fame
The Reaper of lives treats all lives as the same
Our journey in life to all has to end
And the Reaper of lives to anyone is not a friend
Whatever you achieve in life will not save you from death
The one who claims all lives will eventually rob you of your living breath
In the news we hear of the deaths of famous people every day
We were all born to die life works in this way
People die very old and very young and some die  in their physical prime
And eventually we all become victims of time
Death every day claims the lives of famous women and men
And whatever they achieve will not matter to them then.

A C O V I D-19 Survivor

His better days in life he well may have seen
But he is a survivor of C O V I  D-19
The pandemic virus that has claimed many lives Worldwide
Though by it infected it he defied
And though very ill for of time a short spell
The story of his illness he has lived for to tell
The fatal virus to many had him under attack
And though very physically ill for awhile he managed to fight back
A great grandfather in his early eighties he refused for to die
To the frailty of age he give the lie
divorced by his wife he lives on his own
And of better days in life he is one who has known
C O V I D-19 survivors of his age are of the few
And this is not saying anything that is new.

Should Have Been Her Due

With two young boys and a girl for to raise on her own
Of far happier days in her life of she has known
Last year her ex husband  forsook her for another and left her in tears
The man that she loved and trusted they were married for six years
That she has been hard done by is obviously clear
Though sad stories like her's one of often does hear
He lives with his new lover overseas in a city far away
And any children financial support to her does not pay
To raise three young children on her own makes life on her rather tough
Life's journey on some it is rather rough
For love such a price she has had to pay
For her there is never an easy day
Her ex husband overseas with his new love to her he was untrue
Far better from love and life should have been her due.

I Only Have Memories

To me it will always be my first homeplace
Where years ago to many mine was a known face
But i have not been to there for thirty four years
And for the what was i have shed my last tears

Perhaps i will never again walk in the fields to where the waterways meet
On an evening in Spring just west of the Town of Millstreet
When the hawthorns are cloaked in their white blossoms of May
A beauty from memory that don't fade away

In the rushy bog melodiuos and clear
The song of the curlew so pleasing to hear
So pleasant and flute like good memories last
Of such memorable mental images that live from the past

In fancy i often visit the old fields again
And memories of the past today i retain
The voice of the ever flowing Claramore rill
With a babbling tongue that is never still

I only have memories of what used to be
Of faces and places i may never more see
The now is what matters and the now is today
And the clock on our lives ever ticking away.

In A Financial Hole

Of life's journey like everyone else he has a story to tell
The one looked on by many as a never do well
Unemployed in his mid twenties he does not have a partner or children he lives on the dole
In society he will never play a leading role
The factory he worked in went into receivership last year
Such a story as this nowadays one often does read of or hear
He is trying hard for a job start but on his side of the town
Competition for work quite intensive with factories closing down
For circumstances one can say beyond his control
He is one of many in a financial hole
So many poor people like him worldwide
Who must believe that they do not have a god on their side
On such a low income with bills for to pay
He is one of those who lives from day to day.

Far South Of

Far south of Hibernia's wild rocky shore
Fifteen thousand kilometres or more
Of the fields of the badger and waterways of the brown trout
Quite a different Country here in the far south
In the  Land of the people of the Dreamtime
Their history the inspiration of the writers of song, story and rhyme
Of Nature new lessons to learn every day
That we learn as we live only true to say
And of Nature every day we learn something new
Her beauty is timeless and her lessons not in the few
A koala eating leaves or sleeping on branch of a manna gum tree
A sight of rare beauty for one for to see
And just before twilight the roos from the woods venture out
For to graze in the paddocks and go on hop about.

To Dismiss One As A Loser

To dismiss one as a loser of that person not nice of you to say
Since you too will be a loser on some future night or day
For every living person to life's journey there is an end
And we all eventually become losers on this you too can depend
This person is a loser but only in your eyes
That their life journey different to your's you don't seem to realize
They are not inferior to you in any way at all
Our thoughts of what we say of others sometimes leaves us seeming small
So many of us humans are judgmental this is how it seems to be
But having this said none of us are perfect to be flawed is to be human as most would agree
It does take a very imperfect person to verbally put others down
And of the judgmental no shortage in any village or city or town
The one who calls another a loser is one who is being far from wise
That she or he too will become losers is something they do  not seem to realize.

Rog

Rog is not the type of fellow when he belch or fart in public to say pardon me
He is not the type the precious would look on as mannerly
But as a sub contract manhole builder he works hard for every pay
And for him and the work he does never an easy day
But behind his rough exterior a kind soul in many a way
That if he could he would help you this much of him one can say
And he loves his wife Meg and their two young daughters Meg says of him with his life them he would defend
As well as a good husband and father he is her soulmate and her greatest ever friend
There is far more to a person than the eyes can ever see
Appearance can be deceptive is how it appears to be
Rog of this is one example he loves his children and his wife
Quite admirable in his own way he lives an honourable life
Rog does have a rough exterior but when of him you get to know
That he is not how he appears he does have the inner glow.

It Is One Of Those Days

It is one of those days nothing for you went right
And you feel rather stressed you may not sleep well tonight
And nothing at all seems to be going your way
Though tomorrow for you may be a better day
Not the only one to have a bad day in the town
We all have those days when we are mentally down
Tomorrow you may have a reason to smile
Depressive moods in most people only last for a while
To truly appreciate the good days you must know of the bad
Tomorrow you may not be feeling so sad
The stress you are going through on your face does show
Today you do not have the bright inner glow
Tomorrow for you may be a better day
We all have our moods we are wired in this way.

With Hope You Are One

Though your roadways of life have been uphill and rough
And every day for you it is rather tough
Homeless you sleep on a park bench at night
The future for you looks anything but bright
But you never say life on you is unfair
And you do refuse for to yield to despair
Hope for better times in you is not dead
And of  you see happier and better days ahead
Due to an abusive mother and father homeless at sixteen
And many tough Seasons you already have seen
You believe good times from you are not far away
And you search in hope for a job start every day
With hope you are one who does keep faith
Every-thing comes to those who do wait.

Tariro Mavondo

A beautiful black woman her hair as black as the wing of a crow
And one who possesses the bright inner glow
Her humor quite infectious of her one can say
One could listen to her telling stories all day
Born in Zimbabwe she came to Australia with her family quite young
And surely her praises deserve to be sung
For she is a person well worthy of note
A woman of wit a ceo and a performance poet
Quite a sophisticated and cultured person of her one can say
She is into Shakespeare in quite a big way
One can say of her she is free of conceit
A person i can say that i would love to meet
So witty and humorous and unchanged by fame
Tariro Mavondo remember her name.

You Are One Of Those People

On the ladder of success you may have climbed far
And your many admirters say of how marvellous you are
Any humility if you ever did have it in you is long dead
The praises of the local impressionable has gone to your head

There are many once were winners who have become losers in every town
From the very top they quickly plummeted down
At least they have learned one lesson from life of them one can say
That they surely do know who their friends are today

All of the town's wealthy class parties you are invited to attend
And everybody it does seem want to become your friend
But you only know who your friends are if you become financially broke
How many of you then will say what a good bloke

You are one of those people that many admire
And of singing your praises none does seem to tire
But you will only know who your friends are
If you cannot afford the price of a second hand car.

Love

It is the source of joy and happiness
A wonderful gift for anyone to possess
It is something that does come from within
A World without love would be so hard to live in
People with a healthy love of self in them have love for to share
And of the needs of others are always aware
Happy in their life and content of mind
People with love in them are compassionate and kind
They may not be the heroines and heroes of their side of the town
And are even strangers to local renown
Without doubt love is a great gift indeed
And of more loving people the Human World is in need
People with love in them willingly share it around
And wherever love is joy is to be found.

The Contented Of Mind

Lucky indeed the contented of mind
Since there are not it does seem many of their kind
To be famous and wealthy they do not aspire
And in them there is quite a lot to admire
Since most of their sort possess the inner glow
They are quite nice people of for to know
Not envious of the success of others they live in their own way
And you never hear them say they have had a bad day
They live as strangers to conceit or guile
And never do find it hard for to smile
They never wish to be best on their street
And for material success with others do not feel the need to compete
The contented of mind are lucky people indeed
And of more of their sort the Human World is in need.

Andy And Kate

Andy is in prison for bashing Kate his wife
And she and Jimmy their son with the new man in her life
His defense she did attack him with a knife
Where anger is prevalent violence is rife

His story the judge did not believe
And six months in jail he did receive
On his summing up the judge said six months is a reasonable amount of time
For what is a serious enough sort of a crime

Andy in public is a likeable bloke
One who likes a good laugh and can crack a good joke
But one's real self in public few ever do see
Most of us to others are not what we seem to be

But Kate is not an angel as some who knows her does say
She can be quite provocative if she does not get things her own way
Six years of marriage to Andy of time more than enough
The end of their love union was quite violent and rough

Kate with her new lover and Andy her ex husband is in jail
Theirs was not the first or will not be the last marriage to fail
Often love does not last a lifetime why otherwise pretend
And there is often bitterness when love it does end.

The Trail Of Tears

The Native Americans of Tennesee, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and North Carolina they were the dispossessed
Many of them on the 'The Trail Of Tears' to Oklahoma in unmarked graves in their final place of rest
In their resistance of deportation from their native lands many of them died
Some of the U S colonial history is not a cause for a sense of pride
The unmarked graves of  'The Trail Of Tears' a Nation's shame does hide
That the U S President at the time Andrew Jackson was a callous man of him cannot be denied
The first American people they once were a proud race
From most of their native lands the colonizers them did displace
What happened to the Native Americans has happened to indigenous people Worldwide
By the well armed and war hardened colonizers they were pushed aside
The winners may write the history but the truth always prevail
And there is always death and suffering where love and compassion fail
A story of a brutal dispossession that has lived for close to two hundred years
Of the Native American people in their tearful 'Trail Of Tears'.

The Journey In Life

The journey in life for many can be quite tough
And some deemed to fail though they try hard enough
To become successful but to no avail
Some people in life do seem destined to fail
Those who believe everyone has life choices believe their own lie
If you are born into poverty as poor you are likely to die
In a Human World where billions of people for success compete
Few materially successful people ever began their life journey on poverty street
So many of the homeless of the World tonight
In factory doorways and on park benches sleeping under the starlight
Your circumstance of birth can become your life's destiny
It is so very hard for anyone to rise above poverty
From the moment they are born until their lives final day
For many the journey it is tough all of the way.

Most Of Us Far From Perfect

Most of us far from perfect is how it does seem
And the majority long for to be held in high public esteem
But some more perfect than others for to give them their due
And to their higher selves try to live as true
Though the egotistical are on the increase Worldwide
Narcissism is known to have it's source in pride
Those who only live for the self from their higher self further away
Than the person who performs good deeds every day
It is not the good things you do for yourself  that shows of the good that's in you
But the good things for others that you choose to do
The wealthy and famous celebrities so many admire
And of singing their praises never seem to tire
Whilst the most generous, compassionate and kindest people of every town
Do live their lives as strangers to renown.

The Opinionated

The opinionated on everyone and everything like to have their say
And no shortage of them in the World of today
Their unsolicited for opinions they do freely give
And they do not believe on live and let live

In their words they do like to drag others down
And their sort not endangered in any town
In their thinking and opinions they seem rather small
Since their idea of a fair go does not include all

Their own value as people they never do doubt
And they even voice their opinions on things they know nothing about
The people who do lack in wisdom and poise
One can say of them they know how to make noise

On everyone and everything their opinions they like to express
And on how clever they are others they like to impress
They feel so important in their own mind
But then suppose humanity is comprised of every kind.

Losers In Death

That everybody wants to be a winner is an understandable thing
Since the praises of a loser few do wish to sing
There are far more losers than winners in the World every day
Suppose humanity is designed for to work in this way
There are winners and losers in every town
And few wish to know of the financially down
The losers from memory are quickest to fade
And only for winners a victory parade
But every human life has an ending why otherwise pretend
And winners too become losers at life's journey's end
And the reaper of lives does treat as the same
The poorest of the poor and those of wealth and fame
And by claiming from everyone  life's precious breath
The reaper makes the winners in life become losers in death.
