Time did not wait for Caesar or for Genghis Khan
The schoolboy in a decade grows into a man
And a decade of years in one's physical prime
Eventually we all become victims of time
And time did not wait for Alexander the Great
Though his legend today many do celebrate
Or for Joan of Arc and Anne Boleyn
The martyrs for women at the hands of cruel men
For the president, the pope and every leader of state
Like everyone else time does not wait
We live in the now and yesterday has gone
And time does not wait it keeps on ticking on
For the movie star or the winner of Olympic Gold
It just ticks on and on and people grow old.
