Your Word Is Your Bond

To those loyal to their word respect and credit is due
Since to their higher selves they remain ever true
Your word is your bond or at least ought to be
But legal documents would not be needed except for dishonesty
Of dishonest people there are quite a few
And this is not saying anything that is new
Those whose word is not their bond to mistrust gives rise
And sadly nowadays to take one at their word is not very wise
Those who honor their word one can only admire
And of singing their praises i for one cannot tire
But sadly some known to trust for trusting some price did pay
There are no shortage of crooks in the Human World of today
Though your word is your bond is how it ought to be
This is not a safe way to do business in the twenty first century.
