On A Blackbird Singing

In January in Europe a cold and wet time of year
The songs of the blackbirds you never will hear
But in Illowa in the Moyne Shire i hear them today
As the warm sun glows in a sky blue and grey
To Nature's finest songsters their sort does belong
Blackbirds have a distinctive and beautiful song
Introduced to Australia more than a century ago
Renowned avian songbirds they happen to be so
Among Nature's finest songsters of Summer and Spring
In Autumn and Winter one does not hear them sing
On a day that is warm a humid twenty nine
How nice to listen to in the mid day sunshine
The song of a golden billed blackbird melodious and clear
In the warmth of the Summer so pleasant to hear.
