A Boobook Owl Calls

On the moonlit gum trees to where i am nearby
The call of a boobook owl re-echoes in the sky
The brown medium sized hawk owl who hides from the lamp of day
Mopoke mopoke is all he has to say
His loud calling wake the small birds in the bushes close by who take to flight
They fly to distant cover from the hunter of the night
It is born in their genes and etched in their mind
That boobook owl do like to prey on their kind
I have witnessed magpies and crows by day on discovering a boobook roosting on a tree
Harass and drive the brown owl from their territory
The price for a nocturnal bird of prey for to pay
Is to be harassed by others birds in the light of day
In the still of the night under a moonless sky
A boobook owl calls on the tall trees nearby.
