On Cows Grieving

Most creatures for the loss of their young do grieve
This is something that should not be hard to believe
The red hereford cows in the nearby paddock bellowing night and day
For their weanling calves by the farmer from them taken away
Their calves not yet fully grown at the salesyard have been sold
Varied in age from six to eight months old
Hoarse from bellowing for a week all day and all night
Though time against grief always does win the fight
The bellowing of cows for their calves in the Fall of the year
Is always a very sad thing for to hear
Those who tell you cows do not grieve their own falsehoods believe
And those who believe them are not hard to deceive
The red hereford cows at the loss of their calves in the paddock nearby
Are bellowing loud grief in their every cry.
