John Masefield the poet who wrote stories in rhyme
He was one of the great poets of the England of his time
Born and raised in Ledbury he went to sea as a young man
His amazing poetry on it does not have a time span
There are no living poets like John Masefield today
A literary genius with words he had a way
Surely one of the last great writers of rhyme
Sixty years past his death his poems live on in time
Dauber, Reynard The Fox and the Widow In The Bye Street
As well as The Everlasting Mercy and The Daffodil Fields with the best does compete
Of the long narrative poems of the English language of the twentieth century
A Poet laureate of the people as many would agree
In John Masefield's poetry time seems to stand still
He wrote with a passion and amazing rhyming skill
With rhyming words he was one who loved to play
He surely was a leading poet of his day
The Poet Laureate of England in decades long gone
The legends in his long rhyming poems today are living on
John Masefield wrote of Nature and of the human struggle and strife
And his poetry lives on as his great gift to life.
