On The Passing Of Gurrumul

The passing of Gurrumul the saddest news for many a day
On his forty sixth year of life the great person passed away
The greatest ever singer of Australia's first race
So humble in his ways he was one with grace

Forty six years in darkness since he was born blind
Lady luck to poor Gurrumul never was kind
But to compensate for his loss of sight he had the gift of song
Among the World's great singers Gurrumul does belong

In the language of his tribe the great man did sing
To entertainment a new form of spirituality Gurrumul did bring
His type of singer to say the least rare
No other quite like him with which to compare

At a young age the gift of life from a great man has gone
But at least his amazing voice on tape does live on
For a better and a happier World to live in he planted his own seed
Gurrumul he was an amazing person indeed

From his physical ailments in his death he found release
The amazing blind singer Gurrumul may he now rest in peace
Among the great singers of the twenty first century he has taken his place
The pride of his Nation and of his indigenous race.
