Our Earth Mother

Of singing her praises could one ever tire
The one that the artists and writers inspire
To sketch and write stories of the one who supplies us with our every need
Yet wealthy humans abuse her for to satiate their greed
Our amazing Earth Mother the one who feeds all
Life forms including humans from the great to the small
Yet humans in the name of progress cut her old growth trees down
To build factories and houses in the big noisy town
Without thought for the wild creatures that they displace
Extinction of wildlife species has become a human disgrace
The earth that we live on that has created every financial billionaire
Should not be for us to destroy but with others creatures for to share
The one that the lovers of Nature respect and admire
Of singing the praises of our Earth Mother could one ever tire.

A July Night

The frogs in the pond singing in the moonlight
As the rain drizzles down on a wintery night
And the cry of a fox in the paddock nearby
On the second last evening of the southern July
In the depths of the Winter of the southern year
The sound of nocturnal wildlife in the countryside one does hear
Mopoke mopoke the hunting boobook owl cry
It's voice does reecho across the night sky
Thirty four nights from the birth of the calendar Spring
And the silver billed magpies in the moonlight does sing
Their familiar flute like warbling so pleasant to hear
On a wet and cold night even for the time of year
The breeding frogs singing in every pond and drain
On this wintery night in the wind and the rain.

Their Fans Are To Blame

So much about wealthy celebrities online every day
They do seem newsworthy it does seem this way
Out of stories of their love affairs and infidelities glossy magazine publishers do financially well
To their many fans and admirers news of them readily sell
But since they are the objects of so much admiration due to their money and fame
That for their swollen egos them one hardly can blame
Too much attention and admiration gives rise to those who feel they are superior kind
And leaves no space for humility in the admired one's mind
Were I like them in the news everyday perhaps I too would be
As egotistical as they are without one trace of humility
Of an average sized ego anyone should be of in need
That I am one without admirers I feel lucky indeed
Many of them so egotistical those of money and fame
But for their swollen egos their fans are to blame.

Time Does Not Stop

Time does not stop it ticks and ticks away
And for all of us a final night and final day
Like all life forms us humans are born to die
This is a fact and fact does never lie
You more likely than not will be outlived by your daughter and son
But they too will die since death is for everyone
And though your gift of life from once lost forever gone
The thread of life it does go on and on
The materially wealthiest people on Planet Earth today
On how long they live they do not have a say
The dead they never hear the funeral bell
Tolling for them from life a last farewell
And though as part of life death is a natural thing
It's praises you do not  hear anyone sing.

Self Love Gone Wrong

If you cannot love yourself you cannot love anyone
This is what the wise woman did say to her son
And though there are many forms of love of which all are aware
Those who have love in them have love with others for to share
But narcissism as is said is self love gone wrong
And to any form of love it does not belong
Narcissistic people their own praises only does sing
The admiration of self in life is their thing
Themselves alone they can only admire
And of talking of self they never seem to tire
Since they lack in real love, compassion and empathy
For those doing it tough in life they cannot feel any sympathy
Since they are narcissistic and to love narcissism does not belong
In reality one can say it is self love gone wrong.

He Is Not My Foe

He used to be my friend a long time ago
And though nowadays I cannot say he is my foe
On our views on people and politics and life we do not agree
The bond of friendship has weakened between him and me
Though nowadays when we meet we do  talk of the past
Of the long gone Seasons and of how time ticks on fast
Apart from this we have little for to talk about
Since for peace sake many subjects between us are out
Though I am of the far political left and he is of the far political right
With him I have no wish for to pick a verbal fight
Of the things that divide us we do not venture near
Of some subjects nowadays we tend to stay clear
We used to be good friends a long time ago
And though our bond of friendship has weakened he is not my foe.

In Our Own Way

The most of us worry a bit every day
We worry what others think of us or say
And we worry for our lack of material success
We have this need in us others for to impress

Many of us wish to be popular and to others well known
But our private and personal matters we protect as our own
And few of us without some secrets of the mind
Even those who crave to be centre of attention too can be secretive kind

So many their own praises do love to sing
The nourishment of the ego can be a popular thing
At community and social gatherings and wherever people meet
So many for to be noticed with each other compete

And yet there are those who in their ways are quite shy
Who for to become well known feel no desire for to try
They never does yearn for material wealth and renown
And are not even well known in their neighbourhood of the town

And even those with many friends do not go through life without foes
This is how humanity works one does have to suppose
No two exactly the same in truth one can say
And many of us are so different in our own way.
