The Love Of Your Dog For You

A woman may lose the love of her husband and a man may lose the love of his wife
But the love of your dog for you is a love that is for life
A love that is unconditional that only in death does end
Than your dog you do not have a greater friend

For a few nice words and a good feed and a walk every day
Your dog for your kindness in it's love and devotion to you will repay
Your dog is one your trust that will never betray
As your trusting friend it's lifetime it will stay

From work you may be arriving home quite late
But your dog true to you welcomes you home by the gate
With a wagging tail and barks of delight
As if for to say my master good night.

With some of your best friends you have fallen out
But your worth as a person your dog never doubt
Your dog it will love you until the day it does die
This is a fact and fact never lie.

Far Greater

Far greater than any other form of success
Life is the greatest gift any human being can possess
That we would not exist without life only true to say
Though sadly some choose to give their greatest gift away
In the twenty fiorst century celebrity worship does seem an in thing
And of the praises of the wealthy and famous many like to sing
Putting mortals on a pedestal to big egos give rise
But that death does kill the ego one does come to realize
Of all human gifts it tops every list
Without life as a person one could not exist
No other gift or form of success with life can compare
Of this i feel sure everyone is aware
Their names may be on a memorial wall
But the deceased celebrities have lost their greatest gift of all.

Above The Flat Rushy Fields

Above the flat rushy fields where the waterways meet
Just west of the Duhallow Town of Millstreet
The skylarks not flying up to carol today
Their throats will remain songless until April or May
And in every river, rill and field drain
The water flowing fast and brown after the recent heavy rain
And chilly winds of December soughing in the bare deciduous trees
On weather temperatures just over the zero degrees
The grey fogs of rain silently stealing down
On the face of old Clara above Millstreet Town
On a typical Winter morning in the silent groves birds one does not hear
With Christmas fast approaching in the ageing year
The sun behind grey clouds is hidden away
It looks  like it will not be seen out today.

December In Duhallow

Above the bare green fields the cold winds do blow
And the Boggeraghs are wearing their white hats of snow
The sun behinds grey clouds is hidden away
It is wintry and cold in Duhallow today

The weather temperatures close to the zero degrees
And the freshening winds soughing in bare deciduous trees
At least four months from the prime of the Spring
When the wildborn nesting birds will whistle and sing

And the cattle on months of living in farmyard sheds on silage and hay
On nutritious young grass gaining weight by the day
With the Approach of Christmas and January near
December in Duhallow is a cold and wet time of year

In the deserted fields of the rook and the silver back crow
Swollen by recent rain the Blackwater bank high does flow
On to the Atlantic near Youghal far away
In Duhallow in the morning of a cold and windy December day.

Yesterday A Memory

Yesterday a memory of the has been and gone
And the clock on our lives ever keeps ticking on
We are born to mortality and mortals do die
A fact of our existence and fact never lie
The longest lived human life in real time not a long span
On average three score and ten years a few years more for a woman than it is for a man
And on how long we live we do not have a say
For all of us there is a last night and day
Far greater than any other form of success
Life is the greatest gift anyone does possess
The fruits of the karma we sow in life we receive
Such a philosophy is not hard to believe
Yesterday for all of us is history
Just a memory of the what used to be.

Of Love She Has Had Enough

The most attractive looking woman in the town in her physical prime
Though this is going back many Seasons in time
A divorced grandmother in her early sixties her best years long gone
And time on her life ever keeps ticking on
Brown hair dye cloaks the grey in her hair that was natural brown
Back in the days when she was the rose of the town
Two times married and divorced she now lives on her own
The size of clothes she wore in her twenties she has outgrown
She had many admirers three decades ago
But she has put on weight time has become her foe
She does not have a partner or a lover in her life
And she vows never again to become any man's wife
Happier on her own life on her her has been tough
After marriage to two abusive males of love she has  had enough.

The Brothers

The hard working fellow was buried today
In his mid thirties at peace he now lay
Leaving a wife and twin seven year old daughters to grieve for their loss
Few do go through life without bearing some cross
His brother in his early forties only works casually
A happy go lucky bloke of any cares free
He does not have children or a partner or wife
And he is not burdened by the cares of life
Quite different to his younger brother who of a heart attack died
He does not have worries or health problems to hide
He enjoys a good laugh or two every day
And laughter is the best medicine as the wise one does say
His brother the worrier is in the cemetery
Of life's cares and worries at a young age he is free.
