Above the bare green fields the cold winds do blow
And the Boggeraghs are wearing their white hats of snow
The sun behinds grey clouds is hidden away
It is wintry and cold in Duhallow today
The weather temperatures close to the zero degrees
And the freshening winds soughing in bare deciduous trees
At least four months from the prime of the Spring
When the wildborn nesting birds will whistle and sing
And the cattle on months of living in farmyard sheds on silage and hay
On nutritious young grass gaining weight by the day
With the Approach of Christmas and January near
December in Duhallow is a cold and wet time of year
In the deserted fields of the rook and the silver back crow
Swollen by recent rain the Blackwater bank high does flow
On to the Atlantic near Youghal far away
In Duhallow in the morning of a cold and windy December day.
