Swamp Wallabies

Swamp wallabies marsupials of darkish brown
Often visit the gardens of every south eastern Australian town
Gardeners do not like them since their vegetables they eat
And to their taste buds a young lettuce is a tasty treat
Similar looking but less than half of the size of a fully grown kangaroo
But they do not interbreed and many differences between the two
Kangaroos live in large groups known as mobs swamp wallabies mostly live on their own
To be gregarious even among their own kind they are not known
One can say of them in beauty they do not lack
Some call them black wallabies since they seem less brown than black
At night they visit gardens and are seldom seen out by day
And at the sight of a dog or a human they quickly hop away
Different to all other sspecies of wallabies sadly many of them die on roadways every year
And that they are becoming rare is how it does appear.
