Black Tailed Native Hens

The black tailed native hens that you see today
Tomorrow may be many kilometres away
Since they are nomadic and in one spot never stay
Among the travellers of wetland birds of them one can say
Black bantam sized gallinules of human kind shy
At the sight of an approaching human they run to cover of small trees and bushes by lake or pond nearby
In grass cup nest in heavy cover by water the female bird lay
Five to seven green brown dotted eggs from sight well hidden away
They live on grass and insects they find on the ground
And they do migrate often and in large numbers abound
Just a quick shriek to utter is their only sound
And their black tails are always flicking as they walk around
They are not the sort of birds that one would capture to tame
And black tailed native hens for them seems an apt name.

In The One Of True Self Love

In the one of true self love kindness and compassion abound
Like the ripples in a pond from those who have it in them it spreads around
Genuine love of self is a wonderful thing
And the praises of it do feel happy to sing
Those with genuine love of self  in them are strangers to fame
And there are many of them far too many to name
But they are a true asset to human kind
The beautiful people of beauty of mind
A better World for all to live in they help to create
But they are not the sort of people the majority celebrate
The love of self in them with others they share
And of the needs of those in need of helping they are aware
They never turn their backs on those of help in need
And every day they do sow Karma's good seed.

So Sad To Learn

So sad to learn life of late on you has been tough
And due to the opinions of others you feel you are not good enough
Since you have become unemployed of late
On the company you worked for the banks has locked the gate
With a wife and young children to support and feed
Of a new job start you are badly of in need
Of the negative opinionated no longer a rare breed
To say the least you do pay far too much heed
Since it is not your fault that you are unemployed
As banks are closing finances on companies Worldwide
You are not the only unemployed person in the town
In financial difficulties and feeling mentally down
And worried about what the negative opinionated of them does say
To the opinions of their sort any heed why pay.

It Is All About Winning

Many deemed to lose out though for self betterment they try
The poor of the World every year multiply
Worldwide the majority of the wealth is owned by the few
And this is not saying anything that is new
The hungry and homeless and the financially down
So many poor people in every town
And though losing is a thing anyone does not choose
For one to win big many do have to lose
Human life can be like a game of football
The losers are ignored and the winners take all
Of the admiration the praise and the fame
And the loser does become the forgotten name
It is all about winning in the Human World of today
But having that said it was always this way.

Brown Songlarks

The females mostly brown with some white and the males mostly mottled brown
Songlarks often seen and heard even in paddocks close to a town
The male sings a metallic sounding song as upwards he does fly
Though he never ascends that far up in the sky
In cup shaped nest of grass in long grass the female bird lay
Three or four pink speckled eggs well hidden away
Migratory in habit many who know of them say
In any one place their lifetime they don't stay
Not the finest songsters of the lark family
Though them you will recognize again once them you hear or see
In large numbers brown songlarks do not abound
They mostly live on insects they find on the ground
Birds mostly of grassland and scattered tree countryside
They have a huge range almost Australia wide.

Spotted Neck Dove

Doves introduced to eastern Australia from Asia seen in parks by many a town street
Beige head and unders brown mottled wings and pink feet
White spotted black band on neck and yellow eyes
Quite large for a dove but not pigeon size
Spotted neck dove for them an apt name
To be Nature's survivors one of their claims to fame
In flimsy flat nest of sticks on fork of tree
The female lay two white eggs from ground not hard to see
Like most doves and pigeons they eat grain, fruit, seeds and insects on the ground
In large numbers or large flocks they never abound
In south eastern parks and woods their long drawn out cooing one often hear
Especially in their breeding time in Spring and Summer of year
Introduced from Asia many Seasons ago
In Australia to stay it does seem so.

Dingos

The oldest known dog breed of Australia their ancestry is very old
Many stories about dingos have been written and told
Hunting dogs of Australia legends around them have grown
The wild fawn dogs of  down under  much about them remains as unknown
In twenty first century Australia dingos lives are taken cheap
They are not popular with farmers since they kill their calves and their sheep
The only good dingo is a dead one you will hear some farmers say
One reason dingos are not plentiful in the Australia of today
It is said by scientists that all dingos are descended from one female in Western Australia many centuries ago
Who had survived a shipwreck perhaps this well may be so
Even professional hunters with years of hunting experience and renowned for their tracking skill
Will tell you dingos are elusive and clever and quite hard to shoot, trap or kill
The oldest known dog breed in Australia legends around them have grown
Yet despite years of research on dingos much about them remains to be known.
