Doves introduced to eastern Australia from Asia seen in parks by many a town street
Beige head and unders brown mottled wings and pink feet
White spotted black band on neck and yellow eyes
Quite large for a dove but not pigeon size
Spotted neck dove for them an apt name
To be Nature's survivors one of their claims to fame
In flimsy flat nest of sticks on fork of tree
The female lay two white eggs from ground not hard to see
Like most doves and pigeons they eat grain, fruit, seeds and insects on the ground
In large numbers or large flocks they never abound
In south eastern parks and woods their long drawn out cooing one often hear
Especially in their breeding time in Spring and Summer of year
Introduced from Asia many Seasons ago
In Australia to stay it does seem so.
