Old John

Old John often talks of his boyhood in the town far away
And of his young friends and the games they did play
In the nineteen fifties in the long ago
Long before time it did become their foe
On evenings in Summer until the gloam of nightfall
With his young friends in the town park he played games of  ball
A balding grey haired widowed great grand dad he is eighty three
He only has memories of the what used to be
Of his years as a teenaager in the far away town
When he was young, strong and healthy and his hair was light brown
He remembers the first love crush of his life
She later became another man's wife
And time has left him looking old frail and grey
Far from the town where he first looked on the lamp of day.
