We Were Best Friends

In our younger years we were best friends going back five decades or so
But time with it does bring changes and this was a long time ago
Today we are friends but not best friends apart in our ways we did grow
We have changed in our ways and interests and our friendship has waned this i know
We have aged as quite different people and though as friends we do remain
The strong bond between us has weakened and may never strengthen again
His ideas of life to mine different we see things in a different way
And i know if you were talking to him of me similar things he would say
Nowadays we share little in common though we were best friends of the past
And friendships like most things undergo changes few things in life ever do last
Though we do share many good memories and when we meet we talk of the past again
When we had much in common and were best friends but as best friends we did not remain
We were best friends when we were younger but that was a long time ago
We have changed as we have grown older and time it has become our foe.
