At Cairn Curran

The hills and countryside around the lake of Cairn Curran so brown and dry
And no sign of rain in the blue and gray sky
The weather temperatures well over thirty degrees
And not any coolness in the evening breeze
The third week of March in the southern Fall
This warm sweaty weather not pleasant at all
Creeks flowing at a trickle and bone dry every drain
In a dry countryside that is crying out for rain
The waters of Lake Cairn Curran from weeks of dry weather from the foreshore retreat
And the kangaroos hungry without grass to eat
The drought stricken countryside looking so bare
With scarce enough grass on it to feed a hare
And the sunlit gum trees the only sign of green
In late March at Cairn Curran in twenty nineteen.
