They Only Have Memories

They only have memories of a day long gone by
The cold winds of February blew in the gray sky
As her adult children brought their mum in the family car
To her home in the country the journey not far

Her wish was at home for to spend her last day
Though the life's breath in her it was ebbing away
cradled in the arms of her daughter in the back seat she lay
She would not make it home before death had it's say

In the family car it was her last drive
She did not make it to her old home alive
In the arms of her grieving daughter she died
Fifteen minutes from her home in the countryside

The cancer in her body that had been out of control
In her fifties on her it had taken it's toll
This is going back in time some five decades or so
And in human years this seems a long time ago

That time does not wait only true for to say
Some of her children are deceased today
On her way home from hospital in the countryside
In the arms of her daughter in the car she died.
