Here on the high ground of the Cairn Nature's beauty is all around me
Green interspersed with brown coastal country as far as the naked eyes can see
Beyond the sandhills of the Cuttings where the ocean meets the shore
Our lives can be numbered in minutes Nature is forever more
On the last day of December on an afternoon not too warm or cool
Beauty that stretches to the suburbs of the City of Warrnambool
This old and beautiful Country has inspired the makers of song , story and rhyme
Old in the age of the dinosaurs and old in the dreaming time
Home to Australia's first people up to a few centuries ago
That time always brings with it changes only happens to be so
Their Country ruled by descendants of strangers who came from Lands far away
But that Nature does live on forever only does seem true to say
Overlooking the lake of Tower Hill glimmering in the sunlight
Home to birds dependent on water makes for a beautiful sight
Though here to many i may be a stranger not a well known or loved face
I feel i am rather lucky for to live near this beautiful place
Here on the high ground at the Cairn on this beautiful December day
The clock on the old year is ticking twenty nineteen only nine hours away
I feel entranced by Nature's beauty as far as the eyes can see
Beauty that will live forever everywhere all around me.
