For one of her age life on her is tough
She is often hungry and often sleeps rough
Her only child lovely dark haired Eveleen
Drowned whilst swimming in the sea when she was only seventeen
To her husband Joe she was a devoted wife
But he often did beat her gave her a terrible life
He left her for one younger and with huge bills to his debtors to pay
She had to sell their home and because of him she is homeless today
How tough financially and sad on some people life does seem to be
Poor Kate she is homeless and alone she is seventy three
Sometimes i see her on a park bench sitting on her own
Of life's tougher side she is one who has known
Alone in the World and financially down
There are so many poor people in every town.
