Of Boxing Day

The day it is warm over thirty degrees
Without any coolness in the southerly breeze
That blow from the hills above paddocks bare and brown
In the dry countryside by the old country town

The creeks at a trickle and bone dry every drain
And the sunburnt paddocks could do with some rain
The long range weather forecast is sunny and dry
And no signs of rain clouds in the mostly blue sky

The sun it is shining very warm today
Though the weather quite typical for late December only true for to say
It may even grow a bit warmer in January
Last Summer we had some days of up to forty three

Yet the warbling songs are very pleasant to hear
Of the birds who do sing every day of the year
The silver billed magpies of the beautiful song
Once seen and once heard them you never again can get wrong

White butterflies seemingly dancing in the afternoon breeze
That gently stir the glossy green leaves on the trees
In the warmth of the afternoon of Boxing Day
In the sunny blue sky just a few clouds of gray.
