I Will Not Be Climbing Clara

This Summer i will not be climbing Clara on an evening in July
When the brown skylarks are singing in the blue and sunny sky
Overlooking Duhallow and Sliabh Luachra and the countryside for kilometers around
There is so much natural beauty when viewed from the higher ground

When the tiny blue whortleberries of the heather are ripened for to eat
To the taste buds of the palate they make for a tasty treat
It is an old age tradition going back the decades of time
That people climb the Boggeragh mountains for the whortleberries when Summer is in it's prime

From the slopes of Clara mountain on a clear and sunny day
The views are quite breathtaking of places from there far away
Around the Cork and Kerry border such amazing scenery
Beyond Rathmore and Gneeveguilla and the high fields of Knocknagree

I often climbed Clara mountain when my hair it was dark brown
Overlooking the green countryside and the houses and streets of Millstreet Town
But the tiny blue berries of the heather i may never again eat
To the taste buds of the palate they do make a tasty treat.
