When The Currawongs Are Singing

As forecasters of rain and storm they do never get it wrong
The dark birds of the wooded high country known as the pied currawong
When the currawongs are singing you can bet that rain is near
Their distinctive currawonging is quite pleasant for to hear
Dark crow sized birds with white tips on tails with greenish yellow eyes
Of changes in the weather for the worse they realize
The weather may be sunny it may be a pleasant day
But when the currawongs are singing you know that storm and rain is on the way
From eating the fruits of mistletoe and prickly pears in their droppings they spread the noxious weeds about
Not the favourite birds of farmers, gardeners or ornithologists in this great land of the south
They are known to be nest robbers and on nestling birds do prey
And few people of pied currawong does have nice things to say
But they are marvellous weather forecasters when them singing you do hear
You can safely bet your money that storm and rain is near.
