The One Without A Friend

A wise old lady told me years ago
The one without a friend is one without a foe
A passed down pearl of wisdom that with me does stay
And in moments of reflection to think of today

Friends become enemies when trust is betrayed
And sometimes old grudges in the mind don't fade
And in the death of the body only die
That hatred can be love turned upside down is not a lie

You only can live to be the best person you can be
For to live a good life would you not agree
Those in their words who drag others down
Do never become the best loved in the town

The words of the wise old lady with me does remain
That in moments of reflection to visit again
A pearl of wisdom from decades ago
The one without a friend is one without a foe.
