Henry Lawson lived his verses he was a true poet
And a great writer of short stories as well
Of the ups and downs of life he had much for to tell
If you have not heard of him by name of Auistralian literature you know nothing at all
He too had his human weaknessess alcohol was his downfall
The fans of his writing as fans do remain
Those who enjoy reading his poems and stories re-read them again
Henry Lawson he died many decades ago
He did not live to grow old for time to become his foe
Though his does live on as a great literary name
He was one who did pay a huge price for fame
His legacy lives in his writing today
One can say of him with words he had a way
He may have breathed his last just beyond his physical prime
But his poems and his stories have lived on in time
The works of Henry Lawson many Australians admire
And of singing his praises never seem to tire
Generations of young Australian writers he does inspire
And just to write like him in life their desire.
