On Saturday evening he feels he has nowhere to go
Like starting his car and going for a drive
One of the things he used to do when his darling Kate was alive
A great grandfather Kate to him she was the great love of his life
For fifty years they lived as man and wife
Of cancer last year she passed away
Still grieving for her he thinks of her every day
That love outlives the grave is not a lie
He did not stop loving Kate on the day she did die
In fifty years of marriage love between them did grow
How it feels to love and be loved he is one who does know
In his early eighties he lives on his own
And of far happier days in life he is one who has known
True love it does not have a use by date
He feels lucky to have loved and be loved by Kate
Gray haired and balding his better days in the past
Happiness until death with few ever does last
Joe celebrated his eightieth birhday in July
With memories of Kate in happier times gone by.
