On Laughing Kookaburras

Laughing kookaburras as a species of kingfisher are becoming rare
As Australian birdwatchers are well aware
In some parts of Australia where they once lived they are not seen today
And this seems a sad thing for to have to say
In some parts of the Country the laughter of a kookaburra not heard for many a year
And some Australian children such a sound may never hear
At least not in the wild state and there seems little doubt
That to climate change and human industry wildlife is losing out
Old growth trees with cavities in them for nesting kookaburras a need
And logging for timber factories rob them of homes in to breed
This as well as human induced climate change perhaps a huge part does play
On the declining numbers of  kookaburras in Australia today
One of Australia's favourite birds their numbers now few
And that many species of wildlife are facing extinction is not saying what is new.
