Life Has It's Sob Stories

On my own in a cafe eating a piece of fruit cake
And washing it down with an orange milk shake
On the verandah overlooking the bay
Around four thirty p m a quiet time of day

At a nearby table quite close to me
With rather posh accents sipping from their cups of coffee
Talking of their troubles and quite close to tears
Their best years behind them two aged old dears

Five metres from me in distance quite near
What they were on about i could not help but overhear
Talking of their husbands who in the cemetery lay
Life has it's sob stories it can be this way

With them healthwise things not at all well
Of their recent doctors visits they had stories to tell
One with a heart complaint and feeling quite ill
For this her doctor had prescribed a pill

One on cancer remission to her friend did complain
That she was losing out to sleep due to stomach pain
For them i only could feel a bit sad
Better days in life they surely have had

In their early eighties of them one might say
With brown hair dyes they had cloaked time's natural gray
compared to them i feel lucky since healthwise i feel well
And i do not have such sad stories to tell.
