Old Bill is a man who has been there and done that
He has cut cane in Queensland and worked on pipelines in Ararat
Worked for years as a shearer when in his life's prime
Though this is going back many decades in time
He does not have any children as far as he know of and he never had a wife
A lot of women have come to and have gone from his life
He used to have a woman in every town
Back when he was younger and his hair was light brown
Of far better years in life old bill has known
In his early eighties he lives on his own
When in the mood for reflection his eyes mist with tears
On relating the stories of his younger years
In Victoria, Queensland and in new South Wales
In country town pubs he enjoyed many ales
And always a nubile young woman at his side
But none of them ever did become his bride
Way back in the days when his hair was light brown
He worked on building sites in many a town
But going back the years that now seems long ago
And time that rusts iron has since become his foe
The hair on his balding head is silver gray
And one can say he has known of a far better day
But drinking beer in the pub on a Saturday night
With a smile on his face he looks happy and bright.
