The coastal countryside today is looking dry and brown
The sun in the blue sky glowing with a warm face
On old Illowa such a beautiful place
This country with links to an old oral history can trace
To the Gundijitmara people south west Victoria's first race
A countryside even old in the dinosaur time
That has inspired the makers of story and rhyme
To write of this old Land in the age of Climate Change
Worldwide the weather of late has been acting so strange
Scientists claim that for Global Warming humans mostly to blame
Our abuse of the Earth that feeds us is to all of our shame
On weather temperatures close to thirty degrees
White butterflies seemingly dance in the breeze
That blow up the hill from the Pacific shore
In a heatwave forecast to continue for many days more
Of the birds who sing on all Seasons of the year
The warbling of the magpies so pleasant to hear
On their breeding Season they can be heard at night
So pleasant to hear them singing in the moonlight
With the sun on their dark wings chirping as they fly
Welcome swallows chasing flying insects in the sky
In Illowa in early February between Warrnambool City and Koroit Town
The coastal countryside is looking quite dry and brown.
