The Old Brucknell Creek

In dry spells of weather the dark Brucknell Creek
Flows ever so slowly perhaps at speeds of a kilometer a week
But swollen by heavy rainfall it does flow fast and strong
Through Narringal East famed in story and song
Long before the first people to the southern Land came
The Brucknell was old the Creek without a name
In and out of the gum woods through paddocks flat and brown
In the countryside between Warrnambool City and Cobden Town
The Brucknell was very old in the Dreamtime
And has been the inspiration of many a story and rhyme
In the age of the dinosaurs it has flowed to the Hopkins River to the Pacific shore
The waterways will be flowing forever more
To the ways of time the dinosaurs have gone
But the old Brucknell Creek as ever flows on.
