Many elite sports people in their physical prime
Who in their achievements inspired the writers of story and rhyme
Where the deceased are at rest their bones lay
And are only a memory of what was today
They were World renowned in the long ago
Until time that rusts iron did become their foe
And though their achievements in sporting records remain
They will never compete for glory again
It is only saying something that you already know
That eventually time leaves the best walking slow
The praises of champions the masses may sing
But greatness and fame can be a fleeting thing
Many elite athletes of the past are not with us today
Among other mortals their bones at rest lay.
