Medium sized black and white birds I see and hear every day
Pee wee pee wee the tune they mostly play
True feathered Australians of them one can say
Different to most other birds in every way
In cup shaped nest of mud high on branch of tree
The female lay pink dotted white eggs of four two or three
They search for their food as they walk around
Mostly tiny insects they do find on the ground
In Australia magpie larks they are widely known
Favourite birds of many with ways of their own
Distinctive from others on their appearance and song
Once seen and once heard you never again get them wrong
Birds who do sing every day of the year
Every day them I do see and do hear
Of human kind they are never that shy
Pee wee, magpie lark or mudlark names they are known by.
