The tolling of a funeral bell in the chapel near
A reminder to me what is obviously clear
That someone is being driven on their last journey today
And that her or his lot will be my lot life works in this way
The slow tolling of a funeral bell unmusical to hear
An end to the deceased person of joy. sorrow, suffering and fear
A similar bell will one day toll for me
Not in the distant future whenever this will be
That we are born as mortals why otherwise pretend
And life's journey for all of us comes to an end
And what happens to the soul when we draw our last living breath
Remains one of the great mysteries of post bodily death
On a morning in late Winter with the sun in the sky
The funeral bell is tolling in the chapel nearby.
