A Rose Of Rathmore

In her early twenties she left home for Uncle Sam's shore
A Sliabh Luachra  beauty and a Rose of Rathmore
Her wavy hair to her shoulders dark as the wing of a crow
And she was one who did have the bright inner glow

A beautiful smile and eyes of light brown
At the dance halls in Killarney and Rathmore and in Millstreet Town
She was a big favourite with all of the single young men
Though not yet in her prime a young beauty back then

The yearn for the wander did lure her away
From the Town of Rathmore to the U S of A
And where she is now I do not know to say
But if living she is in her seventies today

One who was not affected by guile or deceit
So attractive and charming and free of conceit
Her life's journey took her to Uncle Sam's shore
A long way from east Kerry and the Town of Rathmore.
