Yet nowadays many claim him to be England's greatest Nature poet
The poor man of Helpston the genius John Clare
As wordsmiths go his type have always been rare
Among the students of Nature one of England's best
Yet sadly in his lifetime not many by his poetry impressed
Though many of his Nature poems have stood the time test
To mention a few The Badger, The Landrail and The Thrush's Nest
And his words on the ladybird known as Clock A clay
Rated as an all time great Nature poem by many literary experts of today
He died in Northampton Asylum where he had lived for years
Yet even in Helpston at his passing few for him shed tears
The squires of his village among the forgotten gone
But John Clare in his poetry today living on.
