David may never more see an English Spring
And in the grove near his old home hear a male robin sing
When the hawthorns are cloaked in their white blossoms of May
The good memories of what was are with him today
He last saw mother England thirty five years ago
And since time that rusts iron has become his foe
In his early eighties his best years long gone
But his great love of life in him is living on
He never had children or a lawful wife
His partner Jo the only true love of his life
Of stomach cancer a few years ago died
Of the love of a beautiful person he loved by death he was denied
But time is a great healer as the wise one does say
And David he is feeling happier today
On Saturday evening at the pub's hour of song
He is always singing in the sing along
Known as English David his English accent he retain
A part of England that with him does remain
An octogenarian his hair silver gray
Physically he has known of a far better day.
And in the grove near his old home hear a male robin sing
When the hawthorns are cloaked in their white blossoms of May
The good memories of what was are with him today
He last saw mother England thirty five years ago
