From overnight frost the fields looking grey
In Claramore wood birds are not singing today
They do remain silent all through February
Too early for them to defend a nesting territory
The cattle in farmyard sheds bellowing for silage or hay
Their first taste of young grass at least six weks away
Though Winter close to an end and Spring it is near
February in Duhallow is a cold and wet time of year
The morning is cold just above zero degrees
And the hungry rooks cawing on bare deciduous trees
The redwing thrushes will soon be flying north for the Spring
The workings of Nature quite an amazing thing
In Claramore wood on the higher ground
No bird chirp or sing the silence is profound
And above the high fields the chill winds do blow
On a morning that is cold enough for to snow.
