On Gray Currawong

Medium sized gray birds of the wooded countryside
From south east to south west but not Australia wide
About the size of a medium sized crow
Shy birds of the woods of hard to get to know
With white tips on wing and tails and palish yellow eyes
Their ringing calls heard in the woodland at sunrise
They build a nest of sticks high on a tree
Where the female lay spotted buff eggs of two to three
Like all species of currawong they are known to like the taste of meat
They kill the nestlings of smaller birds for to eat
By their appearance and their bell like song
Once seen and once heard one never again get them wrong
Since human beings they have reason to fear
They fly away if to them you come near.
