Many of them travelled on the ferries from Dunlaoghaire and Rosslare
To Holyhead and Fishguard on their journey to elsewhere
In their search of adventure in the big World out there
Some left because of their yearn for travel others for financial need
Many of the Irish since famine times have become a yearn for wander breed
Some of them return to grow old to the homeland shore
And some of them leave Ireland forever more
Ageing Jimmy from Mayo has not been to Ireland for years
And though for his Homeland he has shed his last nostalgic tears
He says he hopes he lives to realize his sporting dream
Of a senior Gaelic Football All Ireland for the Mayo team
He was a young migrant from Ireland many years ago
And time that ages everyone has become his foe.
