You does not even have to be clever this for to realize
Selected by literary judges who are quite snobbish indeed
Who look on themselves as a superior literary breed
Not for them the writers of ballad, song and rhyme
They dismiss them as poetasters of another time
The modern playwright or novelist or poet
Are those they only see as worthy of note
Gone are the days of the rhymers who did bring some cheer
To the patrons of the local pub as they drank their beer
The rhymers are those who belong to the past
Suppose they did have their time few things ever last
The modern literary judges in their literary taste seem quite prude
The old style of writer from their list they exclude
Time with it brings changes only true to say
In most things in life it is always this way.
