A renowned sportsman five decades ago
In his prime he was a marvellous athlete
Against the Country's best with success he did compete
One never found to be wanting when put to the test
He competed against and often beat the Country's best
In his prime years light and quick on his feet
The champion of many an athletic meet
But ageing is way beyond human control
And time on the best of them does take it's toll
In his prime he raced his way into renown
He was the greatest athlete in the town
But the one who wields the scythe of death on his life had the last say
The champion athlete he was buried today.
